Community-Submitted Bonus Boss (perhaps a contest?)

Archive: 22 posts

Hey guys. As some of you may know, I'm already working on my new level. It'll be shorter than TF and RT, but I plan to make up length for quality. As always, the level will offer platforming segments and puzzles. However, I plan to take advantage of the Paintinator enhancement so players can fight the bosses.

Alright, now, here's the deal. If I finish the level and have enough thermo-space left (about 3 free blocks), then I'd like to get the community more involved with this level somehow. Perhaps a contest (unofficial LBPC contest, most likely) where users will submit their boss for me to include as an optional/secret boss within the level. How many of you would be willing to participate? It's only an idea right now but I'm curious to see if anyone's up for it. There will be some guidelines to follow, but the winner would have his boss featured within the level, as well as getting credit for it, of course. Who knows what else? And no, I'm not running out of ideas; I still have plenty left. I just thought we could...you know...bond more as a community. d:

Let me know what you guys think.

Oh my god I would so participate in this. If there's something I like more than creating a level of my own, it's doing something to other peoples' levels. XD I would most definitely do this and you should definitely get this turned into an official LBPC contest!

*waits for more info*

Cool.

The winner could be featured on the level (the boss, I mean) while second and third place could be featured on a separate level or something. If not, I could try again my old project (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=4120), which never seemed to get anywhere. This was before we had the Paintinator, so it might sound like a better this time around.

If enough people are interested, I might just go with "Boss Rush!!" as it can showcase more contraptions instead of just one.

I want to get in on this... if I can come up with something good, I'll definitely throw down on whatever the guidelines/theme is.

edit: btw this contest should officially be called Who's The Boss, and be sponsored by Tony Danza

The theme is something hi-tech/industrial. Still, it all depends on what happens. I can't tell you guys to start making something for my current level as I don't know if the thermo space will be available by the time I finish. I might be left with just 1 block of space, you know? If it's too small, then I would rather just do Boss Rush!!... if people are willing, of course.

I'd love to participate!
only problem is that I've never attempted to make a boss before , but i guess it doesn't matter if i win as I'd get a lot of experience.
And like everyone else I'd like to know the theme.

Seems quite a few people would be interested. Might just be a better idea to do Boss Rush!! maybe, but perhaps do it contest-style, where the winner gets mad bragging rights and his/her boss gets featured as the final boss or something.

After working on my level all day yesterday and today I'm starting to doubt my current level will have space, but I can't say for sure yet.

What would you guys prefer?

EDIT: In the mean time, start doing doodles and show 'em to me! ;D

EDIT 2: Alright, I won't have enough thermo space in my level. I have about 6 blocks left. By the time I get done, I'll probably have just one block free, and that's not enough for a decent boss. Sorry, guys. However, I might whip up a small level, featuring the top 3 bosses you guys submit, Publish it, then place the Key somewhere around the end of the level. That level will probably be just the starting room, boss 1, boss 2 and boss 3, and the finishing room. Perhaps put up a race flag to keep the replayability up. How does that sound?

Since we're doing a Boss Rush, does it have to conform with a certain theme? Also, would you be averse to one of my super-complicated bosses? Depending on how big some of the others are, of course.2009-01-15 02:44:00

Theme wouldn't be that important, I think. However, there would be a size limit and a thermo limit.

Which idea sounds better? Boss Rush, or the extra level unlocked by the key?

Boss rush sounds better...

I think you should stick with a theme for it too, though. Industrial sounds about right and it would promote all of us doing more mechanical oriented bosses... at least in my mind. When I think industrial I think machines...

I think all of them should focus on paintinator use, honestly. It's the new thing, and allows for alot more things to be done with the boss, that doesn't rely on the platform element of the room that it's in.

I have quite a few unused bosses sitting around, and lots of half finished concept machines that could give me a nice base to work with... but I think I'll start from scratch with this. Just say when, and give us a deadline... I know me and Bass are geared up.

Alright, well, I can begin coordinating Boss Rush after I finish my current level (probably next week). I'll make a new thread with a few changes in the rules and the likes. It might end up being smaller than what I have in mind. However, we could make it a series of levels, each one unlocked by a key found in the previous one. :]2009-01-15 18:29:00

It'd be awesome if you joined in on the fun too, Elbee. :]

Anyway, guys, I was thinking...and I'm gonna start the new thread soon. I'll be using the previous thread as a reference, but will be giving out more concrete details, such as the "room" size and the likes.

EDIT: Alright, here's the thread. (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=p=122309) All the information can be found there.
