[doors] Oh...you stupid so and so...

So...cause i'm a glutton for punishment and a bloody fool, i decided to add completely unnecessary complexity to my Kanji Stage... So i figured i'd use a (kinda) elevator to go up floors (it's set up like a school, y'see), and that means sliding doors...how i've come to loathe sliding doors. i needed the things to open when the players were in front or inside, and close when the players were out of range (outside) or hit the up/down button (inside). This was...difficult for me, but eventually i kludged together something that would get the job done. Yatta! i thought; i'd finally get to start on the classrooms. But...i figured, let's just check things in playmode first. Everything works fine the first few times through, both doors open and close smoothly when they're supposed to, right? The first couple of times. But, after a couple of open/closes, the left door just stopped moving. First i thought maybe the friction of moving was getting it, so i trimmed a just bit off the bottom. Test again and no dice. i'm using a piston on a hologram for my movements, so i checked to make sure both were perfectly straight (though it can be hard to tell, even using the grid). Test again and....same problem. i haven't noticed the right door acting up, and they're getting the same input, so i don't think that's it. i don't know that anyone can give me a few hints or not...really i just felt kinda ranty. Thanks for reading this long! | 2012-10-01 02:16:00 Author: waffleking23 Posts: 535 |
I had trouble with this when I tried to make a train with automatic sliding doors. Ultimately I ended up using two glass panes, encased in a little glass square, with friction on all set to zero and mover logic that inverted movement left/right for one glass pane (and for the other, right/left) on a selector whenever a player moved into the detection area. Worked pretty nicely and yeah, solved that weird problem with sliding doors where it inexplicably gets "stuck" even without anything to get stuck on. | 2012-10-01 06:44:00 Author: Unknown User |
Jeeze, Arbiekko, quick on the draw yeah? i'd forgotten completely about the option to make frictionless, and it seems to have done the trick. i've kinda got my toes crossed. Thanks a ton for the speedy help, mate! | 2012-10-01 23:28:00 Author: waffleking23 Posts: 535 |
