PS3. Wrong forum to ask at though.

IMHO the xbox is only good online. All the hardware sucks and I wouldnt be able to put up with it.

Hmmm... asking if you should buy a 360 or a PS3 on a forum based around a PS3 exclusive. Yes sir, you're going to get a fair answer.

Given the choice, I would forever say a PS3. Even if you threw in a free monkey butler with the 360.

If you plan on playing online its nice to have whatever your friends have so you can play with them.......

But if its just opinion on which is better PS3 wins hands down in my humble opinion....

Hmmm, i'll try and look at it as unbiased as possible, but in the end i will say PS3 anyway.

For a start - the year just gone was easily in the PS3s favour. More top class exclusives, with MGS4, Resistance 2, LBP, Motorstorm2, Wipeout HD, and more, and with all the great multiplatform games too like Fallout 3, GTAIV etc. The game of the year for PS3 has mainly been MGS4 or LBP, compared to 360s being GTAIV or Fallout 3, both multiplatform games. 360 has had a few good exclusives last year, Banjo Kazooie, Gears of War 2.... uhh help me out here guys lol.
The hardware is also superior in the PS3. Graphically, i'd say the two consoles are about equal, but there's not much more to see with the 360, where the PS3 still has alot of hidden power unused in it. Also, the PS3 has a Blu-Ray player, the only format that now supports HD videos on disc. There's also Wifi included, which isn't in the 360.
In terms of online, 360 is apparantly better. The only advantage i've seen when i've used it is everyone has a mic. Not the case on PS3. As for the rest, i've played GTA IV online on both consoles and found the experience to be identical. You have to pay for xbox Live, and the PSN is totally free, so overall i'd say PS3 is better online too.

Also - upcoming games. PS3 (exclusives) has God Of War 3, Killzone 2, Infamous, Uncharted 2, Heavy Rain all this year.
360 has Halo Wars, Mass Effect 2, Alan Wake, Cry On, Forza 3...

And tons of great multiplatform.

Overall i'd say PS3 But i am biased

I've had both since release. I'm not biased. I like both, and more of my friends have Xbox 360.

I'd personally say buy PS3 simply because of LittleBigPlanet. I purchased it the day it came out and have not played another game since.

I LOVE my Xbox360, don't get me wrong.... it's just that LittleBigPlanet is that good. It's like getting 10,000 games for the price of one.

Well I would have to say PS3, free internet, LBP, xbox has some good things also, and really look at the games to see which one you really want. Xbox has some good games also, but I am more on the PS3 side on games I like, Killzone 2 looks good, Bioshock 2 may be on the PS3 first, there is just some good things for the PS3 but really up too you.2009-01-13 19:20:00

well there is just somthing that i loved reading this is how it goes

PS3 owners:
Lets go play our games! wait what games....
Xbox 360 owners:
Lets go play... wait its getting repaired
Wii owners:
Yo lets go play Gears Of.. Final Fanta..... Lets Excercise?

I think all those statements are true and i love em

Well it depends but for some reason with me i find myself playing Xbox 360 more. but PS3 does have littlebigplanet but thats one key game i can name .

Well you've already stated that you want LBP and no other games were mentioned so go for the PS3.

If you have the time I recomend you evaluate the software of both systems to find the one that has the most exclusives that you want, both realeased and coming up and purchase that one.

A few months ago I would have said Xbox360. Then LittleBigPlanet came out....

Actually, this is a good argument for buying the Xbox360. LittleBigPlanet is EVIL. I NEVER USED TO PLAY GAMES THIS MUCH!!!!! IT'S LIKE THE CRYSTAL METH OF VIDEO GAMES! AVOID IT AT ALL COST! YOU'RE ENTIRE LIFE WILL FALL APART. YOU WILL NEVER GET ANYTHING DONE. IF YOU ARE AN ADULT THE ONLY THING YOU WILL THINK ABOUT IS HOW TO GET THE TIME TO WORK ON YOUR NEXT PROJECT. YOUR WIFE WILL GO TO BED WITHOUT YOU! IF YOU HAVE CHILDREN YOU WILL GET IRRITATED WHEN YOU HAVE TO GIVE THEM A TURN! YOU WILL SPEND ALL DAY SCOURING FORUMS FOR TECHNICAL ADVICE TO HELP YOU DO REALLY COOL THINGS!

ummm. ok. I'm back. sorry.....

If you ask me, a console comes down to games.

I can't make your decision for you, but here's how I can help you.

Make a list of all the exclusives you like on both console, then rate the exclusives from 1-5. Whichever console scores the highest is the one you should get. Plus, more and more people are getting PS3s. This year a ton of my friends got PS3s, when before only a couple kids had PS3s.

honestly my best friend has an Xbox 360 and his house is like my second house basically so I play the Xbox a lot and yes I am probably slightly biased as I have my PS3 so I will in the end say get the PS3 but coming down to games I have to agree with ryryryan we've got God of War coming Infamous (so looking forward to both of those) Havy Rain etc... I'm loving the sound of all of those! and yeah definitely Xbox is gettin a couple good new games Mass Effect 2 Halo Wars and such, but I'm hopeful and fairly sure that 2009 is going to be the year of the PS3! I mean seriously... most of my friends had Xbox's and I knew like 1 other friend that had a PS3 and now many of them are selling their's and buying PS3's!! but, yes, it is up to you and I like the suggestion to write down all the exclusives that you seem to really be interested in and then rate them and get whichever console gets the highest ratings! 2009-01-14 05:07:00

Let me give you an unbiased opinion, now you may be wondering, but you have a PS3.

Well, I've had my PS3 for about 4 months, where I've had an Xbox 360 since day one of it's original launch.

The Xbox 360 :

The xbox has some pretty fun games. Halo 3, Gears of War 1, are two of my favorites... The online is incredible, I think it's better than the PS3's in many ways;

1 - More people have mics, and are actually interactive and fun to play with.
2 - You can actually private chat someone, and still play your game.
3 - It now comes with NetFlix, which I see as an amazing addition to the Xbox.

That's really all I can tell you about what the 360 has that the PS3 doesn't have. Graphics to me look the same on both consoles.

The Negatives About The Xbox 360 :

The Xbox 360 has a very high failure rate, I had 3 Xbox 360s' and two of them got the RROD, luckily I still had my warranty and through hours of talking on the phone with some customer service, I was shipped a box in 3 days, sent off to Texas to be fixed, waited about a week and got it back.

The Xbox 360 also doesn't have a Blue-Ray.

At first, when I heard about LBP, I was really hesitant of buying a PS3, because Gears of War 2 was coming out... And I really liked the first one, but I took a risk and sold my Xbox 360 for a PS3, and I'm really glad I did, I've played Gears Of War 2 on my brothers 360 and to be honest, there isn't as much hype as I had expected, the game is less chaotic then the first, and a lot more slow paced, same with Halo 3, it's just not the same as Halo 2.

Okay, that's all I have to say about the 360.

The PlayStation 3

The PlayStation started off bad for me, I had no games and was really bored. Then I got my first game, LittleBigPlanet. And that sir, did it for me, this game is amazing, there is just so much potential in this game, that it could seriously last for a long time... I'd also like to point out that the online is free. The PS3 is also expecting some amazing upcoming titles, one I can't wait for is Killzone 2, the game looks amazing, almost real IMO... It comes with WiFi as well so you can play wirelessly no problem... It however does not come with HD A/V Cables, unlike the Xbox 360, which did.

The Negative About The PlayStation 3

The Playstation 3 does not have as much online features as the Xbox 360, I've only had it for 4 months so I can't say forsure, but I don't believe you can chat with someone on a different game, while playing your game through the XMB.

Oh and when downloading something on the PS3, is is incredibly slow, it took me like 20 minutes to download a very small demo, where as it would of taken me 5-9 minutes on an xbox.

I'd also like to point out that almost no one ever talks online, and when they do the microphone quality usually sucks because it's really so sensetive that you can hear echoes throughout the whole game.

And, that's all I have to say about the Playstation 3...

Which comes down to my conclusion, I've given you some unbiased facts and reasons of each console's pros and cons. Now it comes down to your taste. Which exclusive games do you like, your OP says you really like LBP, so there's a first, you would also want to look at money, since the PS3 is a bit pricier, but in the long run cheaper since you don't have to pay 50 dollars a year for online, and less money for accesories since you can use a bluetooth headset for a mic, since you might have one. You would also want to look at what your friends own, so you guys can play together.

So, there you go, a full Whale Review on both consoles, completely unbiased.

PS3 is better in overall, but the trigger on the X360 controller makes shooters so much more satisfying.
though the d-pad is awful.
PS3 ftw.

PlayStation 3 for sure. Having to pay $50 for online every year is enough to desuade me from purchasing an Xbox360. In the same relationship between purchasing over renting: PlayStation 3's online will in time pay for itself. ^_^2009-01-14 23:57:00

Bad place to ask.
PS3 is better for gaming.
Xbox is better for community.
But PS3 has MUCH more potential for the future.
Lil' birdy told me that they're making another xbox to compete with the PS3 (considering the xbox was made to compete with the nintendo) so I'm guessing you'd be perty annoyed to buy one and find out their releasing a new one soonish.
PS3 is gona be around for a long time, even after the PS4 arrives.

Well, I have both consoles, and have had them since they launched. I also own a Wii since release as well, but that's a side topic. I think I have every major console from release day, now that I think about it... ... Anyway...

Let me point out some of the weaknesses of the Xbox 360. I'll put it all in spolier tags as it's a long read. It's not in any real order.

If you have a HD screen, Blu-ray REALLY makes a difference in terms of visual impact. You can see every individual hair on an actor, it makes a subtle but great visual improvement.

If you need to see a different example, run your computer at 640x480 for a day. Then run it at 1024x720 for another day. That's the difference Blu-ray does. It's that big. Those are the resolution outputs for DVD and Blu-ray. If you want SD (video tape) try 320x200, though I don't recommend it and most modern software won't run at that resolution.

By being "first" to release the next generation, the 360 gave up the chance to support HD-DVD. They use to have a USB connectable HD-DVD drive to plug into the 360, but it was an added cost (half the price of the console), not avaliable at launch, and the whole thing became obsolete. If they had waited a year and released the same time as the PS3, they might have been able to incorporate a HD-DVD drive internally and that format may not be dead now.
Many, many 360 owners have reported the dreaded red ring of death. Almost all of the original 360s broke down shortly after one year, I think you might be hard pressed to find an original release model that has not died yet. Many uses have gone through 2 360s, some users have gone through 5 or even 8.

In comparison, the break down rate for a PS3 is much better. I still have my original launch one working fine, and you only hear very, very rare and anecdotale stories about a PS3 breaking down.

It's just very bad and poor that a modern piece of electronics is breaking down that much. Sometimes it breaks down during the warranty period, which is just a big hassle to replace, but if they break down outside of that, you need to bear the cost of replacing a brand new machine. It's not cheap to buy a new 360 say, every 2 years.

Compare this to the older consoles. My Slimline PS2 works fine. My Gamecube works fine. Heck, even my old Megadrive (Genesis) works fine. It's just showing bad engineering to be making a console that is not a question of "IF" it will break down, but "WHEN".
I saw a joke video once that had the PS3 power up and it was quietly humming away. They then turned on the 360, and instead of the normal sound replaced it with a jet engine going at full bore. To be honest though, sometimes it's that bad.

They have released an update which allows you to copy a game onto the hard drive. You just insert the disc to verify you own the game and then you can take it out, which removes the sound of the drive spinning, the noisiest part.

In reality though, sometimes my 360 makes a very, very loud rattling sound. It sounds like it's trying to bore a hole in itself. It's so loud you can hear it over game play. Admittedly, my first 360 was not quite so bad, and I haven't installed the disc reading update, but it points once again to poor engineering.
I have 4 controllers for all my systems for when friends come around. It's not every day that happens though. Sometimes it's just one friend, but occassionaly it's 4 or more, and it's handy to have 4 controllers for those situations.

They might have improved the situation, but it use to be with extra 360 controllers you bought off the shelf that you would only be given the option of putting in 2 AA batteries. You have to pay extra for a rechargable one. Maybe they have improved in this area, I don't know. In comparison, the PS3 controllers have a rechargable battery built in.

The problem is though, if you get an official 360 rechargable battery - I have not tried any newer versions if they exist or 3rd party ones - the problem is that they drain their charge just by sitting there and not being turned on.

When my groups of friends come around, it's embarrasing having to be charging every single controller because they have all gone flat. The cords are not uber long and it's annoying positioning wise. It's not so bad with one friend, you just have them plugged in and close, but for 4 people you have to shuffle things around and it's just a pain.

But you compare this to a PS3 controller. They keep their charge even after 3-6 months of not being used. After they have gone you can recharge them if necessary and it's all good to go again the next time you have friends over.

It's a small point, but an annoying and not obvious one.
This means you either pay what was $160AUS at launch for an adaptor, or you snake a LAN line through your house if the router is not in the same room.

Maybe they have started bundling in the wireless into new console deals, but it's still an expensive add on compared to what's built into the other 2 modern consoles. Having a LAN line snake through your house is an unsightly and potentially trip causing dangerous thing.
The official justification for this is that it costs money to keep the servers up and running, and it allows them to keep them up to date and running smoothly while allowing small developers to not have to worry about such costs.

Well, it makes sense theoretically, it's just once again the other 2 consoles don't have this extra cost.

If you don't have "gold" - the paid service, you run on "silver" - the free or default one - which means you can still chat to friends, but you are unable to use any online functionality in games.

When my first year ran out (a year came with the cosole) I had a long hard look at what I was missing out on. I'm not a big fan of online shooters, though Resistance 2 for some reason seems to be defying that. Certainly, I missed a few online matches, but, well, I lived. If I really need online and it's multi-platform, I'll get it on the PS3 and not worry about it.

It's just bad marketting to me, having an extra cost that the other companies have absorbed. It just comes across as arrogant, stupid, greedy and lazy to me, which I am sure is not their intent, but that's how it seems in my opinion.
There might be other things as well. I don't think the 360 supports non-360 storage mediums, so you can't plug in a flash drive. I've never tried that, however.

All in all, I haven't fired up my 360 for I think 6 months or longer. I just get far more fun and play life out of the PS3 and Wii.

Certainly, I'm missing out on some good games that are 360 only. Fable 2 is a modern example. I can happily live without Halo 3 and Gears of War 2.

Ultimately, it's a personal decision and can come down to the games you prefer. But hopefully I've pointed out some of the many hardware faults that are not immediately obvious but need to be known.

I already gave my decision earlier, but let me spell it out to make it clear. PS3 hands down is better than the 360 from an engineering point of view. And yeah, PS3 has LBP. I've spent I think 150 hours on that game so far. It's got my off my Warcarft addiction.
