Little Big Planet Sells 1.3 Million Units
Despite relatively disappointing sales upon release, Media Molecule's title surpasses the million mark.
By Kris Pigna, 01/11/2009

Much has been made about Little Big Planet's sales since its release in late October, but it looks like any doubts someone might have had about the game's lifelong sales may have been premature. At the Consumer Electronics Show earlier this week, Sony revealed the game has broken past the million mark, selling 1.3 million units to date (via Kotaku).
A couple of other figures: According to SCE head Kaz Hirai, 300,000 levels have been created in Little Big Planet so far. Furthermore, Hirai claims users have put in a cumulative two years of gameplay time in the title.

In late December, Media Molecule addressed the game's slow sales, saying they remained optimistic they would continue to pick up. "Every few months this thing improves so it stays visible and people stay excited," said David Smith. It seems like their optimism is holding true so far, but now it'll be interesting to see if Little Big Planet keeps selling well during the slow first couple months of the New Year.

Yesssss. I would be upset if it didn't sell well as that would mean a less committed sequel.2009-01-12 21:59:00
