Dark Days (Top-Down RpG)

Archive: 14 posts

(Note: Writing this from my Droid, so I'm sorry for how brief it is. Will be updated and edited as I progress on this project.)

Basically, I've been tossing this idea around for quite some time and I feel like its time for me to put up or shut up. I want to create a top-down RPG that resembles Diablo.

What I need: Designers, preferably ones with some sort of top-down experience and team players who can follow through with a project. I plan on wrapping this project up before December, so anyone who wants to jump on board feel free to post a few
sentences here.

Updated Gameplan:
-Birdseye View top-down game
-Skyrim like leveling system. Several different skill trees which can either be leveled up at level-up, during play or when a player resumes his/her game
-Level tracking, via code (four digit pin), so players can pick up at the level they last left off on (yeah, I know, this can be abused but what would be the fun in that)
-Skyrim equipment set-up (items will follow base-guidelines that determine their damage/defense/etc depending on their quality and material, they can be obtained via smithing/drop/quest loot and their quality can be upgraded at a smith-station)
-Accurate and realistic AI for NPCs and enemies
-Several detailed dungeons and a handful of quests for the beta
-Weekly and bi-weely updates which will add more quests, locations, and bundles more
-Rare/legendary equipment can be re-obtained in the same manner levels can, via four digit pin (though only one player may have each of theae item in the same game lobby)

Possibly a faction concept, where players are awarded faction points during their plays, which will be tracked and the factions will be rewarded foe their hard work.

Post-Beta:
-Accurate leaderboards
-PvP battle arenas. This concept will be elaborated on more later.

That's a lot of stuff you got on your hands, mate! Inventory is one of the hardest things to do in LBP2. I hope you can pull it off and good luck!

Thanks for the concern, but I'm more than capable of creating anything with logic. I need help with design, that's the only grey area... trust me2012-09-26 12:52:00

Hi Ze. I hope your keeping well mate.
A topdown RPG... I know you can pull it off with your knowledge

Be happy to lend a hand where I can. Just work and offline stuff have me busy this weather, but still loving LBP2.

The only real problem I see is thermo space. I've been planning out an idea for a while which works good. It may help you.
Basicaly... Design a top down World Map with locations. AS you goto a location on thee map, it will emmit that location..
Look me up if you like and we can thash around a few ideas I'd go more for the Diablo style mate.

Will you be sticking a sackbot in a controlinator for movement? Because if you have found a way around it and can make your sackpeople walk on the back wall, I'm all ears. I 'm doing a top down game board, (but I'm not using front view.) and having the game tokens actually walking would be awesome.2012-09-28 16:33:00

I plan on using animations and sprites for the characters, but I'm trying to work out the angle so I can use 4 movement animations and one idle rather than 3 per direction per class. As far as sackbots go, I like making everything from scratch, but imay need to just do sackbots.

Sean, I already told you I was doing thewhole emitting of different areas. I've never had thermo problems seeing how my logic is so compressed, its my bread n butter afterall.
But thanks for the faith Sean, ill snag you when I'm on next so we can design together

I guess I'm quite talented in crafting objects and making some design-stuff with stickers and objects. Just PM me or contact me in game, and I'll try to help you with that ...
I love the ElderScrolls-games and it would be great fun for me to work on a project like this. Though I must say, that I'm bad at logics ... xD
I may also help you with music for you game, as I am mostly trained in using the music-seuencer.

Even if you don't need my help in this, I'd be glad to hear about the process of the project. If it grows and works, it might get a awesome series of levels.

@ Z...sounds awesome. Glad to hear you are finally going to make this happen. I think Sean is a great candidate to help with the stage construction. Both of you guys are super talented. Although my series has been taking up my time on LBP2 for the past 11 months, I am always available to help beta test, so you can count on me helping in that capacity. I hope you have much success. 2012-10-06 14:47:00

Don't know if I'll be able to help. I just bought GT5 and have been so engrossed in that game I don't know if I will be able to put LBP in. Unless you really need help, I probably won't.2012-10-11 01:08:00
