Shadows VITA

Hey Lbpcentral! It's been a long time (you may want to read this sentence with the GladOS voice in your head ). I've published my first level on VITA, and it's a new version of Shadows, in the same spirit as the PS3 version. It's a one player only platformer, short (and when I say short, I mean very short) where you interract with shadows. You can look at some screenshots in the spoiler below, and queue the level here : http://vita.lbp.me/v/h0n7 http://ia.api.vita.lbp.me/img/ft/9faed580b3c1769a1cebbac7b0903985a5c48be6.jpg http://i8.api.vita.lbp.me/img/ft/028e9e4f9a2460ba5c36768523139992da9558af.jpg http://i0.api.vita.lbp.me/img/ft/cd0ce31eb32f0c7b0caf133aec02b2a437fb5eb0.jpg Feel free to leave feedback about bugs and issues if you found any. Anyway thanks a lot for playing ! I hope you'll enjoy the level. | 2012-09-25 23:27:00 Author: Slurm Posts: 262 |

I played your level last night and I have to say it's fantastic. I'm assuming you will either make another of these levels or extend this one because I really wanted it to be longer... it was that good. | 2012-09-26 11:51:00 Author: GribbleGrunger Posts: 3910 |
Great recreation of genius idea. I played its original version on PS3 and yesterday tried it on PS Vita. It was fun and very cool to play this level with its interesting gameplay and unique features. Just a little bit short. So I hope to see later bigger level with more ideas and fun! From Russia with love, Domick12 | 2012-09-26 12:44:00 Author: Domik12 Posts: 838 |
How? I don't even......... I'm gonna say you used a mixture of magnets and logic. I wish this level was longer though as it was too short. I enjoyed it. Also 1000th post!!! Everyone gets a cookie!!!!1 http://www.macupdate.com/util/iconlg/31018.png | 2012-09-26 18:12:00 Author: Jovuto Posts: 2345 |
Queued! MAN I need want to go home from work early to start playing all the community levels. Must... resist... temptation..... | 2012-09-26 18:21:00 Author: Taffey Posts: 3187 |
Thanks again all of you for the nice words. And how? Well, with the wonderfull invisible material from the Vita, and the ability to disable Shadows, it was easier than the PS3 version. All the shadows are sticker panels placed carrefully by me to match the objects placed in front of the back wall. When you move an object the shadows move accordingly because it's glued to the object by sticker panel with a 0% opacity. And the rotations are done by logic. There are a few tricks too for specific cases, but most of the level is invisible material, sticker panel and glue. And time. Lots of time to make everything match and feel good. | 2012-09-26 18:26:00 Author: Slurm Posts: 262 |

Just played it, and I must say it is a truly mindboggling level, you did a good job! If I could suggest something as an improvement, you could make the shadow-slider into something that goes faster to alter, in future levels, say, like a lightswitch altering between two states. I would love to see this concept evolve further! :arg: | 2012-09-28 20:14:00 Author: moonwire Posts: 1627 |
This is cool! The concept is is clever and it's well created. It was such a brain-teaser at times and I got confused in places (all my own fault, not the levels ) but this was really brilliant! Shame it wasn't longer though, I'd have liked to have seen more of this. Still very worthy of a <3 | 2012-09-28 20:29:00 Author: Coxy224 Posts: 2645 |
Thank you all of you for your nice words! I know the level is short, but I didn't want to recycle ideas from the PS3 version of Shadows, and I do prefer making short levels. @moonwire : about the switch, i already did something like that in the LBP2 version (if you don't own it you can check it on this video : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mavx_kEAKVQ ). I thought about bringing this idea on the Vita version but ran into an issue (what happens if the player switch from light to shadow : is he killed instantly, or pushed out the the shadow?) I didn't find something fun and different from the PS3 version so I gave up this idea. | 2012-09-29 16:01:00 Author: Slurm Posts: 262 |
This level is team pick worthy in my opinion. | 2012-09-29 16:11:00 Author: Sunbunny23 Posts: 995 |

I really enjoyed this level and I definitely see potential for if you make an extension (I hope you do!). The part that really blew my mind was the day and night part. The level was pretty easy though. | 2012-09-30 21:03:00 Author: koltonaugust Posts: 1382 |

I played through this a few days ago, took me by surprise! Nice concept. | 2012-10-01 20:08:00 Author: ryryryan Posts: 3767 |
Outstanding stuff Slurm - as always, I am truly impressed with your work. The gameplay mechanic reminds me very much of Echochrome II, which is a very good thing. You really nailed the look of the shadows... It just seems right. The day/night slider is my favorite mechanic in the whole thing. If you do a Shadows II you could small lights as hazards - they make "holes" in the shadows when they are on. Anyway, totally worth a play and an easy recommendation to everyone. and <3 without even thinking about it. | 2012-10-01 20:09:00 Author: Taffey Posts: 3187 |
Really enjoyed it, like others I'd love to see a follow on from it. | 2012-10-03 18:53:00 Author: Unknown User |
