Rotating 360

Archive: 9 posts

anyone know a way of making something rotate EXACTLY (I mean EXACTLY) 360 degrees and be able to do so again? Please no timers...Ive spent hours on timers....

oh and wobble bolts don't work either, if you set them to 360 they're practically motor bolts

I can't think of a way without using timers. Sorry, man.2009-01-12 21:38:00

Yes I don't have time to explain right now but it involves a piston, a motor bolt and a key/switch combo on the piston. Will explain later if someone else doesn't beat me to it.2009-01-12 21:58:00

Hmm...

1) Make a circle with a motor bolt to spin it. Attach a switch on the edge.
2) Make a piston with a key on it that sits on one side of the circle.
3) Set the switch to inverted and set the range to just barely reach the key.
4) Set the piston to a fast flipper motion.
5) When the right switch in the level is triggered, it one shots the piston. The motor bolt turns on and stops when the key goes back to the switch, which should be back in it's original position.

Something like that?

Exactly like that. . . thanks you saved me a lot of typing there voltiare.
Actually I finally realized this type of setup works perfectly in making a counting system that behaves in a similar manner to an odometer. You just set keys around the edges at regular intervals and make it so that the next circle is triggered.
Anyway back on topic. . . what exactly are you trying to do?

well ive got it working another way (sort of) now

Its for my next HEIST level, where the boss battle takes place on a giant wheel of fortune style device

press a button to stop it and deal with what it throws at you, theres knives coming from the walls, blades from the ceiling, the boss pops out of the wall and shoots at you - and one of them the platform the wheel is on rotates so you have to hold on or be plunged into the fire below

the original problem was that the platform would rotate but always end up something like 5 degree's off at the end - this would cumulate every time it happened though. and with the platform at an angle the whole thing doesn't work correctly

what I've got now is a piston timer which when its activated triggers a wobble bolt at 359 degrees, the platform spins around - the timer resets and the platform spins again...

Remind me never to make anything this complicated again....

the level sounds cool
might use the 360 thing myself

I was playing around with something similar to this - basically I wanted something to turn 90 degrees at a time and then stop, each time a button was pressed.

I used a large flat square with blocks on each corner and then had another block attached to a piston that would block the movement until it was triggered. You have to play with the strength of the motor bolt to prevent it from breaking.

For a one-shot switch on the piston (so it would go in then out only once per button press) I had the switch rigged up to a piston that would 'throw' a magnetic key at a magnetic switch. The key would then fall down onto the piston block until the button was pressed again.

You could apply a similar method using a circle with a single block on it that is blocked by a one-shot style piston like this.

the one-shot piston is what im using, its what I called a "timer piston" - mainly as its a piston you can time....the only real difference is it starts by a mag switch and shoots AWAY2009-01-15 13:40:00
