Is recreating locked threads against the rules?

Archive: 10 posts

I know there's one rule: If you create another thread of the same kind, it will get locked for being duplicate, unless if another thread of the same is dead. Bumping old threads would also get locked.

What if you create a thread with the exact same topic as the original thread (which got locked)? An example of this is that somebody creates another thread titled "The Differences Between the US and UK" when the original thread got locked for being spammy. Would that be against the rules?

I wonder if it's also against the rules to create a duplicate thread from an old thread that got locked from being bumped. That would be where somebody replies to a thread that hasn't got a response since 2010, and then creates another thread of the same topic when the older topic gets locked.

If this thread gets locked after being answered, I won't create another thread with the same question.

Would that be against the rules? If a thread managed to get itself to the point where it was locked, it's generally a bad idea to recreate it. There are times when a thread is locked because it's so far off topic it can't be salvaged, but typically we try not to lock the thread just because people can't decide what to talk about.

So, to answer your question more directly: It's not explicitly against the rules to recreate a thread that has been locked, but you really shouldn't.

That would be where somebody replies to a thread that hasn't got a response since 2010, and then creates another thread of the same topic when the older topic gets locked. That's pretty much the same thing as bumping so no, that wouldn't be allowed.

I hope that helps!

So you're saying that once a thread hasn't been replied to in a long time, the topic is forbidden. And thanks for letting us know about the rules of creating duplicate threads of a thread that people got into a fight or something. They're not okay, but not against the rules.

Don't forget, this is a question thread. Do you know what that means?

LockMaybe I'll leave it unlocked just because.

why would you want to recreate a thread? Original did it's purpose. It's like a great classic movie and then make a pointless sequel.2012-09-22 01:12:00

Yes, but if the thread is a discussion you would get all different answers than the older thread got, since New people are coming onto this site everyday.

Also, I don't know for sure if this is true, but isn't it okay to bump a General Gaming thread? I think that I've been told before that it's okay to post in General Gaming threads that haven't been posted in for awhile, but I'd just like to know if you are actually allowed to do that. I figured I should ask in here since this is a thread asking about posting in old threads, so yeah.

Depends what the bump is really, a bump with significant new information is fine but a bump quoting some old post just to say lol me too or somethig like that would get the topic locked.

Yeah, because that would basically just be spam. But you ARE allowed to bump General Gaming threads if you have a completely serious reason, or new information?

We revive threads with new information all the time, most threads are made when a game is announced so they end up with large gaps in posts between new information being announced.2012-09-22 13:27:00
