Grievous Grappling [Score Challenge]

Archive: 32 posts

First!

Okay, this is my first attempt at a level on a portable system. It's a survival challenge revolving around evading obstacles that obviously get progressively harder. It's an idea I had for a while, and I'm glad it could be implemented very well in LBPV.

It might be a bit rough around the edges, but it should be fun. I think it's pretty good for a game I had less than a week, but since when did my opinion count for anything? Please notify me of any glitches.

You are the most skilled currently published creator in LBPV.

Which isn't saying much since it's been two whole real days.

Still! Cherish it for the brief moment for which it lasts.

If you still count the official release date of Sept 25th, it's especially not bad for a game. Publishing levels FROM THE FUTURE! 2012-09-21 07:07:00

Hooray! Plays feed my ego. I also made some minor difficulty adjustments for the third phase, not that anyone's gotten there yet. 2012-09-21 16:31:00

Thanks. I hope this level is real horrorshow and not just a pain in the Gulliver. Praise bog in his high heaven if you enjoy it. 2012-09-22 02:04:00

You like A Clockwork Orange?

This survival challenge is the best I have played so far! You have really put together something quite unique, very quick, and I am impressed. When I spawned into the level I was in awe at your art design. Very beautiful. The decorations look amazing. I have played most of your ps3 levels, and they all have a great look to them. Your gameplay is always good too. There is always something in your levels that make wish I had thought of that.

The challenge was alot of fun. I was already impressed with it, and then you threw in the bounce pads. Things went crazy after that. And I mean that in a good way.

I am glad that creators like you are coming over to vita.

Hearted!

I love A Clockwork Orange. It's easily one of my favourite books, despite all the rapey scenes.

Thanks for the kind review. In all honesty, I don't think the gameplay in my level is that inventive as it's merely a variation on existing obstacles. I primarily made this to get used to create mode on the Vita, rather than as a means to bring innovative gameplay using the Vita's features. Initially it was going to use tilt to initiate the obstacles but I got rid of that as it was awkward and just plain dumb. For something made within a week of having the game I'm quite proud though.

I wonder if anyone made it to phase three yet.

EDIT: I made the achievements point based. Initially they were on a sequencer and for whatever reason the weren't working properly. Right now it's 500 for one star, 1000 for two and 3500 for three. Have fun with that last one.

I queued this up and played it today.

It's a super addicting little challenge and I found myself playing it a good 3 or 4 times before I finally decided I was terrible at it

But the level itself is great fun, such a simple idea and it's complimented by some good visuals. Nothing to say really, other than I can't fully judge it because I rarely got more than 500 points!

A <3 and a so I can come back later and try to improve my score

I have a question for everyone who played: are the randomizers working properly? I've noticed that I've been getting the same pattern over and over.2012-09-22 16:58:00

It seemed random enough for me. The first one is always the same, but from there I've had different patterns

Good. The first one is supposed to be constant (as it's the one that initiates the level).2012-09-22 17:33:00

How did you make something like this so quickly!?
I can't even imagine how much effort was put into this! Plus the visuals were great!
This is sure to be a great time waster. Hearted and downloaded.

Well, I made this in my downtime between classes. My textbooks still haven't arrived so I needed something "productive" to do. It really didn't require that much effort to make, but it did take a while to polish.2012-09-23 14:20:00

Played through it, and it was disturbingly fun. Referring to the character with a bit too many limbs, not to mention the slightly creepy atmosphere of the level The gameplay itself was addictive and definitely a tough challenge! I especially liked the gameplay pieces becoming more varied as I progressed with the level. Looking forward to more of your work!2012-09-25 10:06:00

Thanks. I'm surprised how excellent LBPV is for making creepy costumes. My new level will be called Throw Assorted Junk at a Tower Until it Collapses. It'll be quite stupid.2012-09-25 12:09:00

Hooray!

According to deadmn, my level keeps breaking. My question: how? I tested it thoroughly so I'm legitimately curious.

Bad loading/internet connection or something? In single player it works ace, although emitted pistons do act kind of like in LBP2 & 1, where they kind of pause/reset before they begin going up/down and stuff. They thankfully reset before they reach me completely though. That is the only minor problem I have encountered, but it does not ruin the experience so it does not bother me.

Yeah, I was already aware of the pistons not working 100% correctly. However, deadmn didn't get to that point as his highest score was in the first phase. Bleh. Perhaps he's just not playing it properly?2012-09-26 13:11:00

Hooray again!

Can people keep an eye out for the glitch deadmn experienced? Apparently, the obstacles won't spawn occasionally (which is something I though I already sorted out).

I'll keep an eye out for glitches!

I updated the level and now it's slightly prettier. Hooray for pointless detail!

I'm really glad the UV tool now affects the size of the textures. Super helpful for detail intensive jerks like me.

I also made this F4F should anyone want to exchange feedback.

Well I played this last night and it's great! Nice work on this bonner, it was a lot of fun. I am very terrible at it of course, but that has no bearing on my impressions of the level and enjoyment of the format. It reminds me a lot of Temple Trials by Nuclearfish, and that's a good thing. Now I just need to work on my grappling skillz (or lack thereof) and give this one another try!

I really do need to start playing around with the other tools. If only these could be implemented in LBP2.2012-10-03 13:07:00
