Downloading now. Just a little heads up - the Direct Download link has a typo in it. It has a 'Y' where the '8' should be.
Apparently this is 'Episode 2Y'

Thanks for the heads-up! I just checked and it is fine so I don't know if Tom came by and fixed it with his super mod powers or if it was some other sort of magic that made it right

The link in the OP is correct, but it's the link in your sig that I normally use. It's your sig that is incorrect - I just assumed it was part of the post.

Anyways, it was a great listen as usual. I had the Podcast playing while I blasted cars to bits in Twisted Metal last night.

AHA! Thanks for pointing that out! You are correct, and it would appear that when I switched my sig for episode 28 I forgot to save it

It's encouraging to know that someone is using my sig to link to the podcast. It's not exactly difficult to modify my sig every week or so, but I have always wondered if it was worth my time, but if someone is actually using it then I would say that it is worth it :-) So thanks for letting me know that as well

I can relate. Create mode has consumed my soul.

Speaking of create mode, thanks for asking my questions, but particularly the question of the dephysicalizer. I noticed that there was actually a tutorial on minimising the thermo and I'm convinced that if the dephysicalizer chip is sold to Tarsier on my original reason for wanting it then perhaps they'd see it as an essential addition at some point in the future!!!

I did some experiments with the sublayers today and I'm pretty chuffed (happy). You CAN have separate logic on each sublayer, even if they're overlapping or even on top of one and other. You can even have pistons attached to each of the sublayer!! I only tried two but I see no reason why you couldn't use more. They have to be dephysicalized first of course, but I can see some really complex designs and animations being possible with this. The workings of a watch or clock spring to mind, all on the sublayers of ONE thin layer! Oh, the detail... now if only I had a way of making everything dephysicalized until I needed to interact with it! I could save a lot of thermo with that and I'm going to need it for all that extra detail...

I'm a little cynical about the missing drawing tool. That's so obvious it HAD to be deliberately overlooked in my opinion. But I can understand that Sony need to make money and DLC is an important part of the LBP revenue stream

Jeje I don't know why you posted that in here but I agree with every single word.

if the dephysicalizer chip is sold to Tarsier on my original reason for wanting it then perhaps they'd see it as an essential addition at some point in the future!!!So dephysicalizing areas of the level when you're not around? I'd call that emit/destroy. I do see your point though and (grudgingly?) admit that there is some merit to it. I would probably and up using it a lot.

But I can understand that Sony need to make money and DLC is an important part of the LBP revenue streamNo, definitely not overlooked - it's been on the table for a while now. Putting on my software development hat, I will guess that it was something that would have potentially delayed the release date and therefore was never in scope for the original release. They have to draw the line somewhere otherwise it'd never be released. *coughgranturismocough*

Well my original idea was to use it on conjunction with the emit/clean up trick. You have to emit a sizeable chunk, otherwise the player will see it happening. Imagine you have a huge platforming section, with my method you would emit it all but only the sections you actually need to interact with would ever be physicalized. That's a double saving on thermo! All you would have to do is add a player sensor and a dephysicalize chip. You can already dephysicalize materials that you will never interact with, but imagine if the WHOLE level was dephysicalized...

experiment two: The sublayers can be bolted to each other. WOW!

I had fun listening to this podcast and the last one as well though I didn't get any feedback up on it.

It was good to get some airtime for Syroc and get everyone's questions out of the way on LBP Vita. On the subject of the Vita I think the two most revolutionary aspects of it, that I've seen so far, is the Memorizor and the dephysicalizer. These will both add so much depth, function and player gratification that it isn't even funny.

I've really enjoyed the story mode and hunting through to get all the prize bubbles though some off the mini-games are a bit more frustrating.

I'm a bit sad that now I need to have actual friends online to play with to get the 2X multiplayer items rather than just doing it ghetto style with multiple controllers, rubber bands and tape.

-----

The would-you-rather this week seemed to be a pretty good one pitting daily, personal comfort against daily electronic convenience. I think that other living out an a farm, in a forest or some other nature abounding place it'd be difficult to live without electronics. Cars, street lights, elevators, hospital equipment, supermarket checkouts, alarm clocks and so on.

It seemed that the flip side was that you'd be wearing large, bulky costumes for a year. But if you wanted to only go the American Disney theme part character couldn't you do something like Peter Pan? Or Captain Jack Sparrow? Those's two should be pretty easily managed.

I also think it'd be good to go as Ultraman or other similar character that I've seen a time or two while abroad and at amusement parks though I wouldn't like the full face mask.

I'd probably have to go as Jack Sparrow for a year and keep living a life of eletronic goodness.

It's good to hear that you are still enjoying the podcast!

I agree that Dephysicalize and Memorizers are going to make a huge difference, but I would probably pick my two big game changers to be the Memorizer and Touch. Not only does touch and new play options for the game, but being able to create with touch makes life so much easier!

I still haven't gotten through story mode yet, so I can't comment on it much.

Are you having a hard time finding friends online? I've been creating offline a lot because I get a lot of requests and once the request is there I have a hard time rejecting it because the game is so new and fresh and I like to experience the excitement with other LBPers. I certainly don't have the issue on PS3 since I reject requests all the time when in create

My wife took the very same route you did when she listened to the podcast and said she would dress up as a character since she didn't necessarily have to wear a gigantic head or anything. I'm not sure how we would have handled that scenario if it came up on the podcast.

Enjoy your year as Jack Sparrow. You'll have to tell me how it goes once I have access to the internet in a year ;-)

That is a great loophole in the would-you-rather! Dressing as Batman every day could be pretty embarrassing, but dressing as Bruce Wayne every day... just gotta wear a nice suit! Lookin' sharp cosplaying a vigilante billionaire! 2012-09-25 18:02:00

Also something I wanted to say but forgot to was my qualification on my support for the unlock item for LBP Karting items.

I can understand the feeling of pride you'd have by getting 100% and how that'd be cheapened by someone just entering a code to get the same items. It reeks of games where that can be easily imbalanced by players paying money to get powerful in-game items especially when they haven't learned the character class or item in question.

I think that a game like LittleBigPlanet falls under a slightly different umbrella. The main point of the game isn't to dominate the game engine or other players but to play cooperatively with friends and use your creativity to make things.

I think that people who are in the game to create and express themselves but not to hit their head for hours and hours on a tricky mini-game would be the perfect audience for an unlock code.

I know that at this point I'd like nothing more than to be immersed in create mode but am hitting my head against the virtual wall trying to get all the 2X bubbles, ace bubbles and mini-game bubbles. I will get all of these things eventually and could enjoy a good bit of it but at the moment it feels like my ability to make a level with the materials and items I want is being held hostage by the game.

When it comes to LBP Karting in particular I think that there could be a lot of LBP creators in the community who'd like to create in 3D but aren't really carting fans. In a similar fashion the unlock code gives Karting a much broader appeal to gamers and lets people get out of it what they want.

I'm not forced to play levels by creators who used unlock codes to get all items without taking the time to learn the ropes. So if they make terrible levels it doesn't affect me.

Additionaly while I may think the level is terrible doesn't mean that the creator in question didn't enjoy their time making it and that there aren't players out there who wouldn't enjoy playing it.

To sum my thoughts on the matter up:

Competitive games; unlock all = don't like
Cooperative/Creative games; unlock all = good idea

@Uncuddly: LOL, so you can either dress really nice everyday or you can torture yourself by living without electricity I think we needed to set more ground rules for this one

@Trindall: I don't think I could agree with you more :-) For competitive gaming, giving certain players an advantage can completely break the game (especially if it is paid DLC that is doing it). But with LBP Karting it is really just allowing those who want to create to be able to create
