LBP2 PS3 error Will not re-start

Archive: 16 posts

My grand daughter was playing LBP2 when I went to restart the game for her it say "Please plug controller into USB and push the PS button. It says PS was not shut down correctly. It goes throught a loading files routine then re-starts. The playstation has the latest updates and plays all other games including LBP 1 with no problems. Every time I try to re-load LBP2 it goes through the same routine and will not start the game. Any help would be appreciated. A frustrated grampa. thanks rkl3402012-09-18 02:32:00

Does it say you need latest updates? If so sometimes you can cancel the operation and go to the game.

Only other thing I can think of is the game disk might be dirty or scratched.

You might have to delete all the LBP2 game data from the PS3 and reinstall it. It will still require updates when it starts, but you'll be going from scratch to full update in a single swoop which should fix things.

WARNING: Deleting all LBP2 game data will mean your grand daughter loses her progress, costumes, levels, etc.! You should therefore copy all possible data from the GAME menu of the PS3 to a USB storage device before you delete it from the PS3.

Maybe it got to do with the save file. do you turn the ps3 off with the switch at the back of it? if so then your files can get messed up sometimes.
you must turn off the ps3 by going to the home menu and turn it off from there and Then you turn off the switch. if you do that then the files are saved correctly.

Thank you arbiekko, can you tell me how to you delete the LBP2 game data from the PS3. I'm fairly new at this and I didn't know you could delete game files.
thank you. Starting from scratch is better than having no game at all.

Before deleting game data, unplug the power for 10 seconds and then try to start up the system. It's a reset trick I read about when I had a stuck disk. May not help, but worth a try.

To delete LBP game data, go to the Game menu and scroll up - you'll see a Save folder which contains data from all the games played on that PS3. From there you can delete, and you can also save data to another device (like USB stick) if you need to back up data.

Thank you pookachoo: I'll give both a try and let you know.

OK Pookachoo, I tried the power off and nothing changed. I then went to the folder and deleted LBP2. Then I put the disk in to re-install it. It said there is a new software up date. Version 1.17. I hit ok to download. The download started and it then stopped at 63% on the top bar and 2% on the bottom bar. It has been sitting threre for two hours. I removed the disk and then put it back into the play sttation. It still does nothing and is sitting the the 63% mark. It says do not turn off the system while it is downloading. The power button does not turn off the system. I guess the olny thing I can do is unplug it. I'm not sure what else can be done. Any suggestions?

Hm, that does seem like an awfully long time - but there have been a lot of game updates so I don't know how long it should take.
I can't offer any other suggestions, but here's the phone number for Sony PS3 Technical Support, maybe they can help: 1-800-345-7669

Yikes!

Sorry to have missed these updates. My PS3 has "died" on several occasion. If you haven't sent it in already, and at the risk of just repeating what the Sony technician said on the phone, you should try a factory reset/safe mode boot.

http://us.playstation.com/support/answer/index.htm?a_id=1488#activate

* Safe mode is only displayed via component/RCA cables. If you only have an HDMI cable, you cannot proceed.

* You should unplug your Internet cable from the PS3 when doing a factory reset/safe mode reboot.

STEPS

1) Turn the PS3 off (shows a red light for power save mode). Wait a few moments for it to settle.

2) Press and HOLD the power button to turn the PS3 on for up to 15 seconds.
It will beep once trying to turn on. Keep HOLDING.
It will beep a second time (this is the PS3 display resetting to component/RCA cable mode). Keep HOLDING.
It will beep a third time (bee-beep!) like a double beep. You can let go now.

3) The PS3 will power up and give you a list of options. (Restart System, Restore Default Settings, Restore File System, etc.)

4) Select the first option, let it finish, then see if the PS3 starts up normally.

If necessary, repeat steps 1-3, selecting the next option on the list, then the next, until things work.

Once things work, there is no need to keep going down the list.

The whole process should not take more than about about 40 minutes, including format time, from my experience.

arbiekko, I was away for a couple of days and just returned home. I turned on the PS3 and was going to try your suggestion. The screen popped up with instructions which I followed and low and behold the system went through a reset and it is now running??? I lost the game data but the PS3 seems to be working just fine. I loaded nine different games back on it including the LBP2 that started all the problems and it loaded just fine. It took awhile for the update to download but it did and all is running well for all games. Sony has sent me a return box so I now have to call them see if I can cancel the pre-paid return. Thank you for your suggestion and your help. I'll keep this for any future issues. It's been a learning experience. This type of forum is very helpful. Thanks everyone for their help.
My grand daughter will be thrilled.

Wow, so you went out of town for a couple days and the PS3 fixed itself? That's awesome

Not many people know this, but there are actually about a dozen tiny pixies living inside your PS3. They're responsible for adding the magic to your gaming experience. Maybe they just got tired and needed to sleep for a while?
