Ps3 Trophy's = Money...!
Archive: 83 posts
I think you should be able to spend your trophy's in the psn store or even on home....there's no use for trophy's on ps3, so i see no point in trying my hardest to get platinum. if there was a reward for trophy's then this would be great idk what ms does with achievements | 2009-01-11 22:39:00 Author: Thee-Flash Posts: 3154 |
They go ding when there's stuff what more could you want from them. | 2009-01-11 23:10:00 Author: Rabid-Coot Posts: 6728 |

Put a full stop after platinum. That post was difficult to make out at first. I think it is purely for competition. | 2009-01-11 23:16:00 Author: moleynator Posts: 2914 |

Microsoft, does the same. I think they are purely for showing off, showing people that you have more achievements/trophies then them. But, what Microsoft does that Sony should do too, is give rewards for gaining certain achievements. For example, in Gears of War, when you had achieved the "Seriously" achievement, killing 10,000 people online, you would be awarded with a gamer picture, of Marcus standing inside a fire. Sony should do the same thing, but since Sony doesn't really have gamer pictures, I don't know what they can reward us with. | 2009-01-11 23:28:00 Author: Whalio Cappuccino Posts: 5250 |
They could give in-game stuff like the nazi zombie thing on cod. (Lower scale, but you know what I mean...RIGHT?) | 2009-01-11 23:35:00 Author: moleynator Posts: 2914 |

Well, we do have profile pictures, but I don't know if the list can be changed or not. That's if I am thinking of the same thing you were referring to. As for the use of trophies, they give you "gamer levels" for lack of a better term, which I think is suppose to show how good a gamer you are overall. Of course the system could be cheated, for example renting a game and just getting a few extra points, but from what I have seen the system seems a lot more robust than Microsoft's one. The difference between bronze and platinum both in terms of difficulty and in terms of reward points are quite different indeed, while for Microsoft, at least for the earlier games, it was pretty much 100 points no matter how hard the thing was you were doing. I don't know if they have improved the points system, but it use to be really really easy to jack up your gamerscore artifically on the 360. It's just because it's a new thing with the PS3 and not many games have supported trophies yet that we haven't really seen much of a difference between people. Given time I think things will improve. On a side note, I think I read somewhere that Home was going to have some sort of "Trophy wall" where you could show all your game trophies in a graphical way. That could be a way of rewarding people who work hard for gold and platinum. | 2009-01-11 23:39:00 Author: Elbee23 Posts: 1280 |
I agree...would be nice if they tied to something. Like getting a special costume for platinum or stickers or something for the effort. They seem rather limited in value to me. | 2009-01-11 23:40:00 Author: Mattrick Posts: 214 |
They could give in-game stuff like the nazi zombie thing on cod. (Lower scale, but you know what I mean...RIGHT?) I'm fairly sure that the upcoming Mega Drive/Genesis collection has unlockables tied to Trophies/Achievements. | 2009-01-11 23:49:00 Author: Rabid-Coot Posts: 6728 |

Wouldnt work. They would lose money methinks... Yea i know but it would give trophy's a point, if they want to make trophy's a big part of the game for selling purpose then there has to be a reward -_- | 2009-01-11 23:58:00 Author: Thee-Flash Posts: 3154 |
bronze trophy = 50c silver = $1 gold = $1.50 platinum = $2.00 so we can spend in psn store or something along them lines maybe bronze 25.c b/c there so common Never going to happen, especially at that rate. My trophy total converts to $223 | 2009-01-12 00:03:00 Author: Rabid-Coot Posts: 6728 |
Have a look at some of the gaming blogs like PS3Fanboy. It's ridiculous the number of comments on some blogposts you'll see saying things like "I was thinking about buying this, but no trophies? No sale." Sony don't need to offer any incentives, a little number they can rub in the faces of anyone who's unlucky enough to walk by is more than enough reason for some people to buy games just for trophies. | 2009-01-12 00:06:00 Author: Ace Posts: 118 |

I wouldn't hold much hope for them being used for free stuff in home now that Sony have discovered how much revenue selling fake stuff generates. | 2009-01-12 00:44:00 Author: Rabid-Coot Posts: 6728 |
WOOO i have over 300 trophies XD XD XD XD XD including 2 plats i would get LOADS of money off of this if it were included but they will most likely not include a feature like this at all oh well Cheers! | 2009-01-12 02:14:00 Author: RAINFIRE Posts: 1101 |
The main problem I have with Home stuff being awarded for getting trophies so that rophies are less useless is that Home is more useless then Trophies :/. >_< | 2009-01-12 02:26:00 Author: RockSauron Posts: 10882 |
There's been a constant rumor that trophies would unlock certain things in Home, or you could buy certain things with them ala currency. If this were to be true, it's almost certain that the Bronze trophies would be worthless. Silver, gold and platinum moreso gold and platinum would be used as the 'currency'. That way, they don't lose money in the PSN store, and gold/platinum trophies are harder to get and there are less available. This also helps people see stuff in the home store that they might actually want to buy. It makes sense to me to do it this way, but I dunno. | 2009-01-12 02:54:00 Author: LightGrenades Posts: 218 |

I like the way Uncharted did it with its medals, the more you get the more stuff you unlock. I did most of them before the trophy patch and theres no way im going back just to get the trophies when i have almost got everything. | 2009-01-12 09:14:00 Author: Crusha_aa Posts: 48 |

Buying stuff on home sounds good. I don't really see any competition with PS3 trophies.. compared to what you get with GS on XBOX. Need game specific rewards (although in Uncharted, you unlock things in the game as you do trophies, but that doesn't really count). Things like photos and videos, ye. Maybe even if having trophies would affect online play. eg, getting platinum unlocks a (slightly better than the rest) gun on COD online? Likewise with cars etc. | 2009-01-14 22:44:00 Author: Pinchanzee Posts: 805 |

bronze 5c.... silver 10c... gold 20c.... plat 50c... Bronze: $0.01 Silver: $0.10 Gold: $0.25 Platinum: $1.00 I like my conversions much better. ^_^ I'm kinda using the ratio of experience you get from them and the amount of each of them as a basis for this. I wouldn't mind it. It's better than nothing, and that much more of an initiative to work harder for trophies and replay games to get them. And I don't think they'd be losing too much money with these conversions. Anybody care to calculate how much money they'd have with these ones? | 2009-01-14 23:33:00 Author: Sonic5411 Posts: 712 |

But SSHD is awesome, it's my favourite PSN game. Are you serious? I liked it at first, only because it was my first trophy game, but it sucks now. I think it gets boring since there are only 5 planets, not that it matters, since they is nothing different between them besides the visuals. Even with more people playing, it's still not very fun. My favorite PSN game has got to be Warhawk (even though it's on disc too). And that is then followed by Pixeljunk Monsters. | 2009-01-15 02:10:00 Author: Sonic5411 Posts: 712 |

I've been a high score addict on SSHD since 2007 trying to beat my previous best is what keeps me coming back. Back on the subject of money for trophies how does it compensate for the differences in trophies between titles e.g. Bioshock would give you much less cash then buzz would. | 2009-01-15 11:07:00 Author: Rabid-Coot Posts: 6728 |
Well, different games give different levels of trophies, though I don't think there is an industry wide code to follow at the moment. Take Linger in Shadows, which someone mocked earlier. I love it, despite the fact that it's short. It's just very deep. Anyway, there are only bronze and silver trophies on that one. I don't think there are any gold and there certainly are no platinum trophies for it. It's just up to a developer what they reward. I don't think there is a code saying "You must give only one platinum and 6 gold, 15 silver and 30 bronze" per title or whatever. Some developers might have bigger egos than others though. I guess that was kind of the good thing for the Gamer score on the 360. Everything was 1000 points. If you fully did a game, no matter what it was, you got 1000 points. That system has it's own problems - compare say Linger in Shadows to Resistance 2 -10,000 kills for one gold trophy :O - but it does make things uniform. | 2009-01-15 20:50:00 Author: Elbee23 Posts: 1280 |

They could release a firmware that only lets you register 1 PSN ID to the whole PS3 system. So you can only get trophies on that account. | 2009-01-18 01:03:00 Author: oldage Posts: 2824 |

When I hear people say "They're just for nubs that want to show off that they have more games, what a waste of time.", it angers me so... They also extend the life of games which is a very big thing in my opinion.
