Shape is getting to complicated! NO MORE!

I cannot stand the shape is getting to complicated, there is no sense for it to be there. All it does is make making levels much more complicated, anyone else agree it should go away forever?2009-01-11 21:47:00

I don' think it should go, because if the shape does get too complicated, who knows what could break? It'd most likely laggggggg the level too.

Though there really needs to be a better way of De-complicating the shapes too. It's hard to do anything when it doesn't let you erase anything.

Getting a big square and cutting out jagged parts worked for me last time it happened, though it might just have been a fluke.2009-01-11 22:14:00

My solution was to break my large complex shapes down into smaller parts and then glue them back together once I had all the tweaks complete.2009-01-11 23:25:00

I don't think it should go, it's there for a reason. To keep the game lag-free is one of the reasons.

But, with that note, I think they should fix it. Because for whatever reason, the game can't tell when you're pressing X or Triangle, it's just ridiculous. It tells you your shape is complicated, so you try to "de-complicate" it by cutting out peices of the shape, but it doesn't let you do that because the game things you're trying to add onto it... That's lame... :eek:

It doesnt think your trying to add to it, its just that cutting into a shape and thus creating more sides and angles makes it more complex.
An actual cutting tool would be useful in this situation
It could even be an automatic process as you draw shapes.

What i do is just cut a thin line through the complicated object

Complexity is based not only on how many sides/edges, but total volume (in all directions). The concept is extremely important for the game engine's scene graph system. It's seriously not that big of a deal.2009-01-12 01:41:00

You may find nodes in places you didn't think they existed, but it happens a lot. If you want to avoid this problem altogether, work in grid mode as much as possible.2009-01-12 05:31:00

I was joking... But seriously, this problem has caused me to stop building on my level. Now you may say "It was your fault."

But no, it wasn't... Don't know what happened but I published it for safe keeping ( stupid 1.07 bug ) and the next day, I find out that all my layers had merged together... Weirdest thing possible.

I'd like to add that the node editor seems to work best on things that aren't glued down to anything else... otherwise it might not actually work at all.

Also like I said, it takes total volume into account for complexity so you could try scaling some shapes down a bit. eg, if you kept trying to make a bigger and bigger triangle it'd eventually tell you it's too complex.

The biggest issue that people might have with this is when they embed objects, for example if you have a background and you want to keep embedding signs or LEDs. And in that case, just split the background up into chunks; will also ease up on the thermometer.
