Updates and Recon

So...yeah...i went and put in the order for LBP2 from Amazon, and it ought to be here tomorrow morning (and it's pay at the door, thanks Japan!).

i've been gone since a bit before the Move DLC came out, so i kinda wanted to know what's gone on in the interim. Any new, profile destroying bugs out there, f'rex (i don't have anyway to back up my data at the moment, so this is a bit of a worry for me)? Any super new tools or techniques that've come down the pipe (i did catch that the Muppets DLC had Attract-o-Stuff...it has already been downloaded and installed).

Please school this later-day Rip Vanwinkle, yeah? 'twould be really appreciated.

Things are pretty good! There are your usual waves of popular nonsense on the cool pages, but no new game-breaking glitches. I've bought and played through all the DLC and keep coming back to basic materials, basic objects for platforming creation, but there's no shortage of very smart logic makers. Can't say if it'll take off but one guy posted a really brilliant tutorial a day or two ago about how to make a moveable camera using some really deft, minimalist logic. I think at this stage we're at "refinement" rather than new groundbreaking discoveries.

One neat thing is that LBPCentral and the other fan sites now get mentioned weekly/bimonthly in the News, so the Community Spotlight levels draw bigger audiences. That sort of thing. My interest in the game is cyclical, like yours, I missed a whole bunch of months in late 2011, early 2012, came back with a vengeance, then drifted off again.

Mostly just want to be sure I reply to you as a fellow Japaner. You were on my friends list once upon a time, I think! Glad to see you back.

Thanks a lot for the news and the welcome Arbiekko. i'm actually really excited to be back.

It's good to know that there's nothing of massive import on the bugs front. Looking through some of the DLC stuff on PSN, seems to be just costumes and the ToyStory pack aside from the Muppets one...i don't have any interest in TS...though the Golfer, Caver, and Deep Sea Diver costumes might end up in my cart before too long (that Golfer has a darned fine hat).

i wish the Sticker Editor (Painter?) wasn't only available through the Move periph (something that even if i had interest in, i couldn't justify buying in the least). Saa...if wishes were fishes, we'd all be pope.

Ahh...just a half a day now...i'm thinking a full revamp to the dictionary stage(s), and...there's a level that's been bubbling up in my mind for the past few days, and a few that are just inklings...*squee* [editor's note: even if you're over 30, and a guy, you still have a right to *squee* occasionally]

Right then, thanks again!

yes one or two profile destroying bugs have been found and still have not been patched yet. they could explode on the cool pages any day. if you back up your profile before every time you play online you should be ok.2012-09-13 09:15:00

Hrmm...

C'mon now, one or the other, it can't be both....unless it's Schrodinger's Bug...which could probably be worked into a level concept all of itself. At any rate, i have no form of backup available to me at the moment (yes, even the 'lil memory sticks selling at the 7-11 on the corner are a bit beyond my petty cash right now). i suppose i'll just have to cross my toes.

[editor addition] So...i've been going through comperMC's tutorials again, 'cause they're awesome and i've forgotten tons logic and design stuff. Anyhow, going through the one on Modular Design, he breaks out some stuff called "sticker Panel"...this inquiring mind would like to know what's up with that.

just back up your lbp1 and lbp2 profile to your ps3

Ah, for the love of Pete and Pete's cat...i had honestly, up until this moment, never noticed that that was an option. i retract any and all detected or inferred snark in my previous reply. Sorry, Monster.

When you say backup the LBP 1 and 2 profile (and this will likely sound real dumb, but i deal with tech like monkeys do math), both can be done from the LBP2 profile menu, then? Will just have the one is all (i have, quite literally, have 0disc-based PS3 games at the moment, and LBP1 was fobbed off long before to pay a bill).

The sticker panel and sticker material come with the MOVE pack. You can draw your own stickers with the MOVE on the sticker panel and put them on the sticker material. The sticker material is very similar to the holo, but the edges are much cleaner and you have more control over it, such as opaqueness, which allows you to only show the sticker and nothing else. In short, it's fantastic2012-09-13 12:35:00

I have no idea what these dormant profile-destroying glitches may be. Monster may be right. I just know that the "epidemic" of people creating massive sackbots or tiny sackbots, and the thing that required scoreboards to be shut off for five months, haven't been mentioned since I came back to the game in around June 2012.

Went and bought the Move Controller, PS Eye Toy and the Move Pack DLC just a few weeks ago, put about 4 in-game hours into the thing collecting and acing and getting the trophies, and sold the Move Controller and PS Eye back to a used shop. I don't regret it, but I can say for sure that I do not care at all about anything in the Move Pack except the sticker panel material, which truly is a neat thing. You can obtain it without the Move, too, in the tutorial after buying the DLC. A definitely good investment.

Hrmm...so you need to get the Move DLC to get that stuff...which i suppose makes sense. It looked darned useful in that tutorial, too...

Ok...say...i picked up the Move DLC without actually picking up the periph...about how much of it could i actually do with just a regular controller?

i'm not a big user of flavour-material, but tools and basic-material stuff trips my trigger like nothing else. i should take a look in Book-Off to see if the M-controller is going cheap...it doesn't seem to have *ahem* moved all that well over here. Then again, even the basic PS controller runs about 4500yen used (one of mine may have, perhaps, suffered a critical existence failure last month)...

Without a Move controller (specifically the lolipop part with the bright light at the end) the story levels will lock you out with a message saying that you need to have your PS Eye and Move controller connected to proceed. However, if someone else is in a level you can dive in with them, or they can invite you in. Then you can run back and forth a bit, or sit and watch them play the bonus levels which are essentially single player controllinator things. You will receive any bonuses they do, though.

Really the only thing you can do is "play" the tutorials with a regular controller and grab up the sticker material. Still, in my opinion it's a worthwhile investment.

(However, not worth the investment: I picked up the PS Eye and Move controller (just the lolipop part) new for 6000 yen. I sold them off a few days after completing the DLC for a not-great price of about 2500 yen.)

Hrmm...this will take some noodling, then...

If the lot was retailing at 6000y, and you got 2500y as a sell back...got to figure that being 4500y-5000y used, and that's not going to fly. Maybe i'll try your diving in with someone else suggestion.
