Skyrim's "Dawngaurd" may not come to PS3.

Archive: 15 posts

Bethesda has confessed that, due to an unnamed development problem, PS3 users may never get access to Skyrim's Dawnguard DLC, missing out on the extra content altogether.

"Skyrim is a massive and dynamic game that requires a lot of resources, and things get much more complex when you're talking about sizable content like Dawnguard," wrote the studio. "We have tried a number of things, but none of them solve the issue enough to make Dawnguard good for everyone.

"The PS3 is a powerful system, and we're working hard to deliver the content you guys want. Dawnguard is obviously not the only DLC we’ve been working on either, so the issues of adding content get even more complicated. This is not a problem we’re positive we can solve, but we are working together with Sony to try to bring you this content."

Oh Bethesda, you silly guys. Intentionally releasing a game that runs on an engine they know doesn't work well with PS3's RAM architect. To intentionally release a broken product is a low blow, and this is surely a new found disrespect I have for the studio.

...And Bethesda loses a bit more credibility, although it's not surprising at this point.

I actually think they have negative credibility by now.

This might be the same with Hearthfire too, and you get kids and option to build a home in that one.2012-09-10 02:11:00

Kind of expected it with this one though. Bethesda isn't exactly... accustomed to building games on Playstation hardware, as their previous releases have been super buggy on the system. (Fallout 3/New Vegas/Skyrim profile bug)

My question to them isn't "OMG WHERE THE FLYING HECK IS DAWNGAURD!?", I would rather ask them why they would bother wasting resources and time developing a game on a system they don't really care for.

I always thought Dragon's Dogma looked really cool and interesting. I liked the demo. The one thing I didn't like was the framerate on the xbox version at least. It's absolutely horrible. If it comes out on PC consider me interested.2012-09-10 06:40:00

A Sony support team is working closely with Bethesda to bring Skyrim (http://www.joystiq.com/game/skyrim)'s Dawnguard DLC to PS3. Dawnguard launched on the Xbox 360 in June and on PC in August. Bethesda previously notes (http://www.joystiq.com/2012/08/31/bethesda-ps3-dawnguard-release-still-problematic/) that Skyrim is a "massive and dynamic game that requires a lot of resources" and it's not sure if it will be able to reach a resolution on the DLC with Sony.

Sony's Adam Boyes echoes that sentiment to Kotaku (http://kotaku.com/5941482/sony-says-that-theyve-been-working-closely-with-bethesda-to-get-skyrim-dlc-working-on-the-ps3). "We work with all of our partners to try and solve their problems," Boyes says. "We have a big, broad dev support team that works closely with Bethesda – and with all of our partners – to work with them to solve any sort of issues they have along the way.

"Of course, I always want everything to work always for everyone. I can't promise any kind of resolution or timeline but can say that everyone involved is trying their best to get this stuff working."

Already mentioned in the initial article.

Losing out is one thing.

Knowingly selling a faulty version of a game to millions of people is another.

At this point I'm switching to the PC version.

Are you actually implying Bethesda cares more about money than the happiness of their consumers?

Please, say it's not so.

Didn't they already release the trophy patch for the DLC? I haven't actually played Skyrim for a while, but do plan to go back to it.2012-09-10 11:25:00

Because there's a lot of kids that would be like "OMGZ Y BETHESDA NO RELEASE SKYRIM ON PS3 GOTY BRB HANGING SELF" - they probably wanted to gain some credibility with the PS3 people. I don't know how far a developer can get a way with launching a buggy game, or how bad Skyrim for PS3 is, but it might be justified.

I have seen a similar debate on a GTA forum about the next release (pre-trailer). Some people were arguing that the Xbox's limits on data storage and installation caps could affect the availability of content in the game. So, how far can a game be launched in a specific console just to please the fanboys?

I can understand their desire to appeal to PS3 players, but with a buggy game, they won't get far in the impression department :L

Then xbox gamers lose out. It's not a matter of fanboyism, if the console cant handle the game it cant handle the game. It should be released for Ps3 and Pc, xbox not being able to handle it not being an issue.
