Autumn Inception [1 Player]

Archive: 16 posts

I published my first platformer in LBP2!

Describe:
A production by PyroTrooper91 and DeKa1357. The autumn begins and the leaves turn red, orange and yellow. Bounce and swing around in this colorful autumnal level. The best time of the year. Music by Hug-Of-War. [Version 1.0]

Hey Deka! I just finished playing the level. So here's a little feedback:

*A preliminar note in my reviews: You may see that "The Grades" I give at the end of my review can be the same than the grades of a "different quality" level. I usually adapt my grades in order to be fair according to the creator experience, and as it seems you even have an MM pick I may seem to be a bit tough in my grading.

PRESENTATION

Yep, I loved the badge. The first impression the level gave me was that it would be a really great experience. The Autumnish decorations were used in a theme I rarley see, like a rocky forest. For the thread, I would suggest adding some pictures so that people get interested in the theme.

LEVEL

Ok, I usually play and review in the same time, and so I can update photos of things I didn't like and things I did, anyway, this time I didn't get the chance. Anyway, I do remember basically everything, and here are my two only complaints.
1-Luckily you uploaded a pic of yourself in here...

http://i4.lbp.me/img/ft/9e4fbbd240eec1b581709ff02211344aab079c17.jpg

I got stuck in this part for a while. You should add an arrow or something that tells you that you need to grab the sponge to the left to change layers and continue the level, because this part seemed like a Dead-end.
2-Sorry, no pic this time, anyway, when you have to go down through a series of wheels that are really close to each other... Ok, it was incredibly annoying. Adding more space, and making the wheels bigger would do the thing.

THE GRADES

What everybody loves/hates! The grades!
Gameplay: 3/5 I know its your first attempt at a platformer, but I didn't really see any innovative ideas, it felt short and some parts need polishing.
Graphics 4/5 Simple at times, but the strong point for this one.
Sound 3/5 I liked the music, but the sound effects could have been better and much more, better placed, etc.
Overall 3/5 Great work! Again, do not misunderstand this grades, as they take into consideration your previous experience. I know you're more like a mini-game designer, so this is a pretty awesome first try at a platformer!

This is a great little platformer. The autumn theme is consistent through the whole level, giving it a sort of mellow, easily-paced feeling. The visuals are pleasant and somehow soothing, even in the face of imminent death by little spikey cactus-things. Added to that is a really catchy tune which blends perfectly to create an overall happy-go-lucky vibe.

The platforming itself is equally solid, and a decent amount of playtesting obviously went into this to make sure the whole level flowed. The only area that confounded me for a few seconds was, as mentioned above, the grab-pad behind the fence. When I was trying to speed-run through the level, I kept popping back into the front layer. That was, of course, a fault of mine for being too anxious to continue, and I see no real need to put in any sort of fix for that.

The length is, for the type of level it is, pretty much perfect. It offers enough play to let one dig on the atmosphere, and yet it's short enough to warrant multiple playthroughs simply for the sake of appreciating the level. The advert towards the end, encouraging one to join a forum, sort of takes away from the flow of the action, and could be a bit less obtrusive (perhaps something not requiring a pause in the gameplay).

All around a fun, cute, satisfying platformer. Played, Aced, Yay'd, and Hearted. Thanks for the entertainment, and well done!

Hey Deka, I've played at your level some days ago!

I have to say that is really really good for a first platformer. I love the design, good choice of decoration and materials. The gameplay isn't awesome but it's good, simple and fun!

I think you have got a real potential in plateform! You should continue man ;-)
Good luck for your next creation ^^

This is a fantastic nature level i relly loved the details that you put in to it and the small hazerds the music was awsome you made great use in the Autumn pack..Theres one part tho i had a tuff time finishing it.Its at the end every time i tryed to pass over the green spike i died im thinking mabe its just a little close to the spinner after a few times i made it to the end.Other than that i really loved this level. http://if.lbp.me/img/fl/f9f2f0818fbedaf683230f7b2809d3c14add451e.jpg2012-09-13 04:11:00

It looks good. That's about it. The gameplay has been seen before, as have the visuals. It's well done (as in the sense that there's nothing wrong with it), but it's pretty unoriginal and boring (and short). My only gameplay complaint is that the conveyor belt thing can and should be made stronger. There's absolutely no reason this level needs to be single player only and increasing the strength on that obstacle would make it so the sponges won't fall off the track. Adjust some cameras as well, and this level would be multiplayer friendly.
