In Game Load Times?

Archive: 42 posts

I was wondering if the Digital version will have faster load times than the physical version. Of course it won't make any difference for the community levels but will it make a difference for in game loads?2012-09-08 10:57:00

Hmm,I don't think so,But if there is it's probably just a matter of 1-4 seconds for it to "read"...what ever it does.

Also take a look at this tweet:

@TarsierStudios Will there be any differences between the PSN version and the physical copy of the game?

Tarsier Studios ‏@TarsierStudios

One will come on a cartridge. No there is no difference between them.

Yeah, but he's probably talking in terms of content and what it's capable of. The question I'm asking is specific and requires a specific answer. When you consider that many games actually DO work more smoothly when installed, then you have to assume that the digital version could also benefit in the same way. It may only be 1 - 4 seconds, as you say, but that's still worth considering when you finally buy the game. I'm now contemplating buying the digital version and if the answer to my question is, 'Yes, the digital version loads a little faster', then my mind will be made up automatically2012-09-08 13:39:00

probably not. we are using cartridges instead of disks and umds.

Hi.

I have Uncharted on vita in both versions - digital (my first vita game) and on cartridge (it was the present). I tried to compare its loading time and found that from cartridge game loads levels a little bit faster (differences was about 4-5 seconds).

So the physical game loaded faster than the digital version?

Hmm...How does that make sense?
The data isn't on the vita,It should take more time...Did you load the same level?

I've heard several times actually that physical media(when it comes to video games) loads faster than digital. Perhaps it's more efficient in the way that it reads the data?

Not sure. But I don't think the difference of a couple seconds should be a factor to go physical or not. I personally don't care and just mainly want that pretty box art on my bedroom dresser.

By the way has anyone seen the LBP Vita Japan boxart? It's so darn cute!

I know I think I like both equally though.

Japan must have a white background thing for video games... just sayin'.

True. I'm still disappointed though in how he's portrayed in PS All-Stars as more taunting/airhead instead of cute/goofy. Ah well.

Anyone getting PSAS just for Sackboy? I was thinking about it, and the cross-buy deal definitely makes it more tempting.

I loved SSB! But the game also has Ratchet and Clank, Jak and Daxter, Sly Cooper, Nathan Drake, Kratos, Cole MacGrath, Evil Cole MacGrath, Toro, Sackboy, Spike, Big Daddy, Dante, and Nariko!2012-09-11 01:57:00

I haven't played GOW, but I might try out Kratos, although the guy from Tekken (forgot his name, like always) has a super move where everyone else is strapped to a rocket and shot off lol.2012-09-11 02:26:00

Digital copies are stored on a Memory Card, not the vita. I guess the carts are quicker than the cards.

Oh right! Forgot about memory cards, derp
I think I'm still gonna go digital for comfort reasons...
But I'm pretty annoying about loading times differences

According to the reviews thought. They didnt say if the long loading times was applied to, the Physical or downloadable version. So i guess both will load slow. But Physical will probaly load, a bit faster than Downloadable.2012-09-13 17:31:00

The loading times were perfectly fine in the beta,I was very impressed with them,And by the loading of the videos i saw,There still great, the difference of the loading times is not something someone will notice,so it doesn't matter for reviewers.

I said i saw videos of the full version and I'm not disappointed at all by the loading times, and it makes sense the reviewers got a voucher code in they're mail to download the game, seems easier then to send the game card worldwide to all the reviewers...

I got the physical copy a couple days ago, and the load times are fantastic. 10 sec to load a level at the longest, which considering the load times on other vita games, is pretty **** quick2012-09-16 21:23:00

I have a digital copy. And the load times are fine as well.
At least for campain and loading my levels in editor. We will see how long some bigger user elvels will load. Btu I guess we will be able to workaround this by downloading them locally.

Only thing that is taking too long is rewinding in editor.

seeing as how the only diff. is which card it's loading off of, I see no reason to think that it'd be a noticeable amount of time.

That said, I'm pleasantly surprised that the load times aren't too horribly long.

So has there been any conclusions drawn here? I'm more or less certain I've changed my mind again and I'm now going digital (for now). Are they about the same?2012-09-17 20:23:00

IMO unless you really mind about 1-3 seconds that were not even sure exists(We didn't see a comparison yet)
I say go digital!

I guess it's possible that the access times for a big 32 gb memory card could be slightly longer than the smaller game cartridge...but I honesty doubt you'll notice a difference, especially since you won?t be doing side by side comparisions. I certainly wouldn't let this dissuade me from getting the digital version.
