Top Down Exploding Barrel Help

So I am in the middle of creating my very first (very simple) top down shooter level (simply trying to get used to creating this style of game) and I have hit into a problem.

In my level as well as the enemies I have exploding barrels that spawn which I can get to explode via shooting them, ramming them with my ship and even the enemies can cause them to explode if they impact the barrels.

What I want is when the barrel explodes for there to be a small blast / shockwave which will destroy enemies caught in the blast as well as damaging the player.

Any help would be appreciated

You could emit a circular (invisible) hologram with a tag as the barrel explodes. Have an impact sensor on the player/enemies set to 'include touching' which will pick up the same tag.
Then you could hook this up to damage/explosion logic and maybe add visual effects too. If you want me to elaborate or if I wasn't very clear on something just ask.

just pulse a tag as the barrel explodes, and have a sensor on the player and enemies that subtracts from their health based on how close the tag was when it pulsed2012-09-08 00:56:00

When you connect logic to a tag, that tag is only active when there is an active input. You could attach a short timer or such to the tag, and activate it when the barrel explodes. That way, the briefly activated tag simulates "blast damage".2012-09-09 01:15:00

Ah, cool.

thanks I'll give that a try and let you all know what happens (tho I suspect it should work).

Next I am going to have fun trying to figure out how to make it so you score for each enemy that is killed by an exploding barrel but ONLY if you SHOOT the barrel with your gun, but I shall try and figure that out for myself first.
