Top down level help

I'm working on a Diablo-type dungeon crawling game, and I have one small problem. Currently, the only method I could come up with for the player and enemies is sackbot/controllinators. This looks silly, however; everybody just looks like they're riding around. I could use some help, or at least suggestions on how to make good looking top down characters that don't look like they're sitting down on the job.2012-09-06 12:01:00

Put the controlinator on an invisible hologram and set the controlinator to side mounted.2012-09-06 18:29:00

o.o But side mounted won't look like top-down at all! The only thing I can say is put some decorations or make the costumes hide the controlinator. Make sure you don't make the player or sackbot control the object directly - we don't want to see the bot moving around on the controlinator while he drives.2012-09-06 20:26:00

If you are pretty good with sticker panel animations (do a YouTube search) you can do things like feet/legs moving back and forth There are a few decorations you can use for heads, the new acorn is quite good, the grey modelling clay blob, and If you place a few starfish together they make great hair (go to my planet (shade_seeker) and play my new (unfinished) tank versus zombies level, I give away one of my zombies as a prize (it's all top down) .... You could do what I do in some of my levels and not show the controllinator at all but rather make entire characters and enemies out of decorations.2012-09-12 12:03:00

Yep, make the controlinator invisible.... Use a thin piece of sticker panel on back layer with a couple of decorations for feet ( mgs ammo packs work quite well, two standard thick layer pieces (two small squares) as legs, a thick piece of material for body in the middle playing area(two sack boy monster arms from the monsters pack for the arms) and then decorations for the head on top on the thick material, like I said, a couple of star fish from the summer pack work great as 'surfer dude' hair, or the acorn from the autumn pack....this does hower mean it is two layers thick, so it will only be able to jump ONE layer.2012-09-13 10:42:00
