Grab, jump and bounce your was through the level. A plat former designed for up to two people (due to lag). Play with one player for best experience, although look out for the two player zone. Woop! Updated, thanks to all the reviews, I have improved the level! So all those colourful sponges are now a nice purple colour, much more fitting with the theme (: | 2012-09-05 09:38:00 Author: bluesteel789 Posts: 159 |

One word: Queued! Wait. That's 3 words. And now 7. And now 10. And now... EDIT: Time for the feedback that is! As the whole thing begins, I already know this has got quality! Yay, I love when I see such quality from unknown faces. My first complain is the lag. I know you mentioned about it before, but if you can manage to reduce it I would thank that. The room with the spinning wheel was really frustrating. Really frustrating. Improving some aspects of the design like the changing the glass floor and making the hazard circumference that surrounds the spinning wheel kinda bigger would help. Specially making a wall that pushes you forward after touching the first bounce pad, as it seems that getting momentum with it is a much easier way of completing the task. Now... A pic! This wheel has toooooo much speed. Please make it a bit slower : http://i9.lbp.me/img/ft/0293decb01087c59a7fca1a31e87bc8a2e479450.jpg I really loved the part with the moving wheels that reseted their positions if you die. Really creative and original! And I disliked the part with the grappling hooks and the floating bubble-things. Not much fun, but a lot of frustration. Ok, I think its time for... THE GRADES!!! Gameplay 3.5/5 There were some awesome ideas, things that have not been seen much, but it really needs polishing at points. Still good work! Sound 3/5 Ok, I'll be honest. I hated the music. It was annoying, not fitting to the theme and really repetitive. Aside from that it was OK. Graphics 3.5/5 I liked them, I did not love them. There were parts that looked really good, but in general I felt that it could have used more decos and stickers. Also, the theme was awkward. It was like high-tech, yet it had some colorful sponges from time to time, which looked... Odd. Overall 3.5/5 Good level, it has a large duration which I generally like. Adding some more detail to everything a bit would make this a more enjoyable experience. Great work! Oh, I'm so awesome that I don't need any F4F. I like making feedback just to help! Anyway, if you can check the level in my sig I would appreciate it | 2012-09-05 23:24:00 Author: yugnar Posts: 1478 |
Nice level. The visuals looked pretty clean thanks to corner-edited materials and their right choices. Maybe you should cover the standing of the levers with a material. The level is filled with clever use of bounce pads and attract-o-gels, too. I did see a couple of problems, though. One involves falling down into a blank background, which I took a picture of where I found it. The other involves the floating sponges that they should somehow be a little on a slowdown side, so that this obstacle will be less frustrating. Other than that, Good level. VISUALS: 4/5 SOUND: 4/5 GAMEPLAY: 4/5 OVERALL: A yay http://i1.lbp.me/img/ft/d0149899c0f1d8c1fa8893a1c833fa96535308f4.jpg F4F my gallery level | 2012-09-06 02:13:00 Author: JustinArt Posts: 1314 |
Okay dokey, got some work done now (: Changed the stupid colourful sponge. It's now some nice purple felt. Fits in with the purple plasma and Attract-o-gel. Changed the music. Some nice drum beats now, using the track 'Planetarium' (I think.) Added moarrrr deco, which yes, doesn't help the lag at all, but it makes the level seem a loooot less....empty. The bug where you can get out of the level has been gotten rid of, some wheels have been slowed down, and just made the gameplay more fluent. Probably should put up some moar screenshots that show the change of the material.... Oh well.... :roll eyes: The reason why the music and sponge were out of place was because originally this level was gonna be just gameplay, low decoration and visuals. However, that's just plain booooring to create, so I made it a lil' bit more interesting. And JustinArt, your F4F is done. | 2012-09-06 17:37:00 Author: bluesteel789 Posts: 159 |
Okay, done another reasonably large update. Deleted the section with the floaty bubbles. Yugnar pointed out that it wasn't much fun, and after deleting it the lag went down. There's virtually none now. It's a lot more enjoyable. Fixed a glitch which made the player escape the bit where the bounce pads shoot you up a looong way. The replacement level section isn't great, it's really just a way of getting the player from A to B. But oh well. | 2012-09-08 19:29:00 Author: bluesteel789 Posts: 159 |
I've left a short review in game but I may as well post here too. I enjoyed it very much, as I said in game my only real problem was the lag, though I was playing in 2 player so it may have been worsened. I think the level looks great and plays well, you have some really good gameplay ideas in here but the lag cripples it, particularly in areas with lots of attract gel and smoke machines. If the lag could be reduced the level would definitely be worth a heart from me <3 | 2012-09-08 20:30:00 Author: Radishlord Posts: 706 |
Well, like I said before, I've cut out the super laggy section. All those emitted things really slowed the game down. It now runs super smoothly. So I'd be greatful if you'd give it another go, and we'll see about that heart | 2012-09-08 22:54:00 Author: bluesteel789 Posts: 159 |
I loved the visuals but really didn't like the monkey bars bit. it is overused in levels however as it was at the start it is forgettable so it didn't damper my enjoyment. there is a bit in the level where you have to go behind the scenery to get past. I of use this myself, but I feel it would pan out better if you used the same layer option on your player sensor so it doesn't move when your behind it. I am reviewing this while playing to give you an honest opinion. I reached this bit where bounce pads sent me up high to this bit with the bounce pads where you got to great purple felt to get pass. this slows down the level and is rather anoyying as the purple felt is hard to grab at this point in a level the pace should pick up in my opinion to add abit more excitement. however appart from those very minor complaints I did really enjoy this level, I won't recommend it for an MM pick but I don't see why it should get 1 it is better than most MM picks, it has a decent mix of experimental new ideas and recycled gems, the logic at times does need tweeking to be perfect but it is only minor petty complaints so it is so nearly there anyway that you wouldn't need to bother, if I could make 1 criticism I would say the level doesn't evolve. (which isn't a bad thing) it is a good level. deserves much more plays and a possible MM pick. if you do make a level that evolves (by evolves I mean something like a plot twist, plane crash or even teleport to a different environment mid way though) I would be happy to play it level design: out of 10 I would give it a 9.5 (as there is not really anything I could say which would improve it) gameplay: 7:10 (the game play got slow at times ) | 2012-09-09 01:09:00 Author: Jonarrthan Posts: 310 |
The design of this level is very clean but there were areas that proved to be a bit challenging and/or buggy. I read the bit about the X2 part so I grabbed a friend and gave it a shot... unfortunately the X2 area was not functioning properly and we couldn't progress in that area. The second bounce pad platform refused to budge. http://i0.lbp.me/img/ft/ac0f018e21b8ac4e4f0710738ac3fd061cd4a3f5.jpg We managed to work our way through the level despite the added difficulty of having 2 players... This does make things much harder. Unfortunately we did get stuck in the location with three platforms that move up and down where the grappling hook is used and the ceiling's gravity attraction turns on and off. I'm not sure if we weren't doing it right or there was some sort of bug but we spent a good 5 minutes in that room before ultimately giving up. There were a few additional areas that proved to be difficult and somewhat annoying but I can't recall anything specific (definitely wheel related obstacles). Oh, and we did manage to fall behind some walls to our doom in a few areas as well. As for the F4F, feel free to check out one (or both) of my levels (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=72941-Metal-Gear-Sackboy-Unraveling-Stitches). Cheers! | 2012-09-09 07:24:00 Author: Unknown User |
Hm, that's gotta be annoying for you! You bring a friend a log so you can access the promised 2x player zone, and then it jams up, aaand the second player basically makes the gameplay harder. I shall fix that right away. And I'll try to get that F4F of your's done. EDIT: F4F done. And that 2x Player Zone is fixed now. | 2012-09-09 08:30:00 Author: bluesteel789 Posts: 159 |
Replayed it, love all the little fixes you've made since I last played. Definitely worth the heart now. Adjusted my review. | 2012-09-09 08:59:00 Author: Radishlord Posts: 706 |
Thanks a lot, its great to hear that it's getting hearts. I'll try do your F4F very soon. | 2012-09-09 09:01:00 Author: bluesteel789 Posts: 159 |
Don't worry about it I don't have a F4F level at the moment | 2012-09-09 09:03:00 Author: Radishlord Posts: 706 |
I gave the level another go on 2 player mode and finished it. Bravo on piecing together a great level. I really liked the head fake near the end... Brilliant. I did run into one more bug but was able to work around it. The bounce pads that come in from the left grazed my head and thus missed sending me flying to the right. I'd lower that battering ram just a bit. http://i0.lbp.me/img/ft/f30c8dd072af2b6876f372e2b09b4fdc47c2a8b0.jpg Other than that, the level was a challenge to play and yet kept us quite entertained. We picked up the race sticker so maybe we'll give the race a try in the near future. | 2012-09-10 02:17:00 Author: Unknown User |
Hey, I played at your level yesterday ^^ A great level with really clean decoration and a fast gameplay. But actually, I couldn't finish, I was blocked somewhere, but ermmm... I don't remember where x) I should try another time, alone, because I was with a friend, and I'm sure that it would be easier --> Added in the queue, again ;-) | 2012-09-10 18:54:00 Author: alain251 Posts: 128 |
Thanks alain, thats great that you enjoyed it. Please do play and again, and posting a picture of where you got stuck would be very helpful. Thank you very much. | 2012-09-11 17:34:00 Author: bluesteel789 Posts: 159 |
Just played your level buuut there are a few complaints. Firstly I really didn't like the decoration you used to cover up the checkpoint because it cuts off Sackboy's head. D: http://i5.lbp.me/img/ft/355492acda1bb93a75b1374761fc257583176067.jpg Also were these two blue platforms supposed to be lethal? http://i2.lbp.me/img/ft/bb2ea402e17c137593836a94a5f3e30a4981204b.jpg I also think there should have been a delay on this V (Look below) V becuase I was kinda wary that I might get squished between the sponge and the wall on the left. http://if.lbp.me/img/ft/60f6e198365f1de8ca4f358bf155c045c8dd1943.jpg Also the sponge in the back V(HERE)V needs to be clearer. It took me a while to see the sponge there. http://i0.lbp.me/img/ft/0b08da2b377c3f9e049df94e30e28f1a2bae2d70.jpg Also I thought that some of the checkpoints were badly placed. But that's it! All the mechanisms looked really cool and sleek! There were some cool secret Score Bubbles! A 2X area! And a pretty cool fake ending! Over all I'd say I had a good time with this level! | 2012-09-12 16:05:00 Author: Jovuto Posts: 2345 |
Okay, thanks for that. The entrance is not fantastic, no. No, those platforms were not supposed to be lethal. They only become lethal on one of the platform 'arrangements.' Yes, that is bad decorating, it should be more visible. And what do you mean by badly placed checkpoints? Thanks for the end of the review! | 2012-09-12 16:22:00 Author: bluesteel789 Posts: 159 |
And what do you mean by badly placed checkpoints? I mean some of them need to be closer to each other because it can become kinda frustrating. Buuut I guess that's just me. | 2012-09-13 19:12:00 Author: Jovuto Posts: 2345 |
Ahhh okay, I see, no problem. maybe i'll change that. | 2012-09-13 19:49:00 Author: bluesteel789 Posts: 159 |
Hey, Vamp here. I played your level the other day and I wanted to say that it is, in fact, a well made platformer. It is difficult at times, but honestly I feel that games should be more difficult and this "make it possible for everyone to win" mentality is crippling. Some games should be walkthroughs, most shouldn't. LBP has that problem because a lot of people wont finish hard games and huff off without pressing that yay button (never understood what's so hard about pressing that thing. I do it for mostly any level that isn't an abomination because I know how much work goes into a decent level.) So, I liked it. It was a challenging platformer with a good amount of level design. There was, however, this inescapable feeling like something was missing. I think it was cinematography. It took me a while to figure it out, but I think that's what it lacked that bothered me so much. See, I like levels to not only look good, but to have some flare as well. Camera angles, short cut scenes, sackbots acting out in the background, a (even arbitrary) mission to accomplish other than "Hey, get to the other end of this place" . Also, I think you level would have benefited from the use of 3D material for the space outside *is big fan of 3D glitch*. The music kinda just blended into the background for me, which isn't bad since it could have been annoying or unsuited for the situation. Not a strong point, but it fits. Oh, almost forgot. I liked the title screen... It might be nice if we could look at it a little longer. I may be wrong but it just seemed to be there one moment and gone the next. Nice use of decos by the way. You used the **** out of some negitivitron pipes lol ^_^ Gameplay: 8.5/10 - Probably the best part of the game.... which is a good thing considering its really all that matters. Visuals: 7/10 - Great work with the decorating, wish it had more going on. Sound: 6/10 - Meh. Not great, not bad. Nothing special but it was present and it fit. Replay: 7/10 - I gave this a higher score than I normally give platformers because it features a hidden race sticker and a 2x area. Wonderful for getting those second and third playthroughs. Overall: 8/10 - Great work, either polish this up more or take what you've learned and craft a new masterpiece. Looking forward to it. | 2012-10-05 16:28:00 Author: VampyreKai Posts: 34 |
Actually Vamp, the idea of sackbots moving about in the background sounds really good.... I think I will go and do a republish of it, fixing some of those areas. I don't get what you mean by using the 3D glitch for the background? Like some space rock floating about? I would, but it's a pain, and there is quite a lot of back thin layer material to cause trouble. Maybe check out my thread in the ideas and projects? That some *hopefully* unique gameplay combined with silly visuals(: Oh and....Negativatron pipe+Light Stud deco's FTW!!! | 2012-10-05 21:50:00 Author: bluesteel789 Posts: 159 |
