How relevant is the touch functions?

Archive: 9 posts

Yep, its me again! Today's question is:

How relevant is LBPV's touch functions?

Once you think about this, this can be a pretty interesting subject. Let me explain:
LittleBigPlanet Vita's most important addition is the touch functions. I mean, probably there will be a really limited number of levels (maybe none in the Story mode) that don't use this function. Which is totally understandable.

Anyway, how important is this function? How can it contribute to making an absolutely new concept that couldn't be created in LBP2?

Because, the thing is, I think that the touch function is pretty much of the same usage than the MOVE stuff in LBP2. I know, in LBPVita it will be much easier and more comfortable to use this functions than in an identical LBP2 with MOVE level, still, I can't imagine not a single thing that the Vita can do with all this touch sensors that can't be done with the MOVE DLC in LBP2.

So, here's your homework people: Who can post an idea of something related to touch gameplay that can only be done with Vita's touch functions and that can't be replicated with LBP2's MOVE stuff? Again, not considering the comfort factor. Obviously it would be much nicer and accurate to move platforms with the finger than with the frustrating MOVE controls.

One thing the Vita can do that move can't do are the Back Touch features.2012-09-04 02:11:00

Well, back touch and front touch are basically the same, Ok, no, but very similar. If you touch the back of the Vita (for example) to push a platform in and out, you can do the same with MOVE, not exactly like touching the back of... whatever, your TV? lol. Anyway, we're getting closer. Maybe some gameplay that includes touching the back and front touch screens at the same time for different purposes.2012-09-04 02:41:00

A couple advantages the touch screen has over the Move:

1.) The Vita has a multi-touch screen, so you can put more than one finger on it. You can't do that with a 1 player Move.

2.) You don't have to 'aim' at anything in front of a PS Eye, you just push it with your finger so it's more natural.

3.) No calibration required, touch controls are much more accurate than a motion peripheral.

In my opinion, the Move add-on for LBP2 is kind of gimmicky. While the touch screen in LBP Vita seems like a natural part of its core gameplay.
