LUMINES: Ragtime Symphony

Hey guys what's up, I've come up with a brand new puzzler that, once again has been getting no plays from the community whatsoever.

If any of you have ever heard of Lumines, let alone actually played any of the Lumines games themselves then you should already know what you're doing.

This is a very identical remake of Lumines, it's basically similar, in ways, to Tetris. You start off with a block at the top of a grid and it will gradually move down space by space. There are only two colours of block, and in order to erase any of them you must create a 2x2 square of any same coloured block. You can also chain lots of 2x2 squares within each other to get huge combos. The blocks will be erased when the moving timeline sweeps over them. Over time the blocks will fall faster, making gameplay harder. Obviously it's game over if any of the blocks reach the top of the grid.

I had some trouble creating this and the game is very prone to lag. It's published as a beta phase at the moment as the level is very temperamental. Hopefully everything should run smoothly for you, let me know of any problems.

Controls: Circle/Cross - Rotate block clockwise, Square/Triangle - Rotate block counter-clockwise, Left/Right/Down (D-Pad) move block accordingly.

Here's a gameplay pic:

Wow that was fun and addicting, nice work! It took me a while to understand how to play you might consider putting an in game menu that explains the controls just so people who don't understand at first can figure it out. All-in-all I'd say it's a great level. If you're still doing F4F here's mine. http://lbp.me/v/fbz-7h2012-09-05 03:06:00

Update V3.00 has been published today. It mostly features greatly enhanced performance of the grid logic, allowing for much faster, smoother gameplay, as well as allowing me to further increase the block drop speed to a whopping 20 grid spaces per second whilst still being able to control the block yourself. It used the full 30 frames per second that LBP runs at, so it's looking like this is as fast as the game will allow the logic to operate. There's still a few bugs here and there, but they're really hard to come by. I've received some amazing feedback guys, thank you so much - looking forward to the future that may be in store for this level.2012-09-10 17:57:00

I played this the other day and was really impressed with the visuals (very clean looking design) and the gameplay. I've never played Lumines before, so this was completely new to me and I really liked how it progresses smoothly to a more challenging mode. Very fun gameplay. The only thing I can think to maybe improve upon it, is to add some stats to either side of the play field. Like what level you're on and the score. Like in the actual game, and the only reason I know that is I looked up images for "Lumines" Anyway, fantastic job on this.2012-09-13 13:45:00

Very well crafted and polished game. It felt professionally made. The controls were smooth, gameplay was simple and fun. The gradual increase in difficulty was spot on. The music felt appropriate. Any suggestions of improvement would feel like nit picking on my part.

Please look at my game: http://lbp.me/v/fg97b0

I'd definately appreciate feedback from someone who clearly knows what they are doing =)

This is exactly like the "Lumines" games. The controls, background, and score givers are all work well. Changing the theme and music throughout the level will be nice, just like someone (I think his name is ForceWerewolf) did in the other "Lumines" remake level. Overall, great job.

Haven't played it yet, but wow.

I played Lumines addictively when it first hit the PSP. Even in the pre-app, barely-born-social-networking era it felt somehow bulky.

Your perfect replica of Lumines in LBP2 makes wonderful use of the game's tools and makes Lumines feel "at home" at last.

GREAT choice of project, great execution.

EDIT BONUS COMMENT
Your level ID on LBP.me wins the blush lottery with "fece5t". So naughty-sounding!
