Death of Onlive?

I don't think this will surprise anyone, but it looks as if OnLive won't make it to market:

I had a chance to try it once and was impressed, but performance was all over the place and I really didn't care much for the image degradation.

Tried it, couldn't play anything because ISP. So, paraphrasing Matthew Inman: "I mourn its passing about as much as I mourn an outgoing fart".2012-09-02 17:49:00

I still think there is a connection between Sony buying Gaikai and the Onlive sale. I know that Sony dropped it from their upcoming Bravia range, but something more is going on here.2012-09-02 17:54:00

There's no connection, the circumstances for the two sales were very different. Gaikai was an acquasition by a larger company Onlive is a bankruptcy with assets being sold to a new company.

Yeah, I think in both cases the respective companies couldn't make the business model work for mass distribution, so the technology is being sold off to be used elsewhere. Can't say I'm surprised...it's a novel idea, but not really worth trading in your console or PC for. I imagine Sony might find a better use for Gaikai to stream games between console and handheld, or an emulator for future backwards compatibility.
