Boss fight Question (MGS rex)

Archive: 6 posts

I know most of you out there have acquired the MSG pack and played the Boss level. If you are an expert lpb creator, then this question is for you..

The Boss battle consist of 4 parts. 1st you have to shoot the missiles for the back. 2nd you have to take out the knee, Then you have to take out the right gunner and last the left gunner or the back gunner....

Now with that said, HOW do you link 4 parts into one boss like that. To have it in sequence to go from one "kill point" to anther, without that particular part exploding. Like when you take out one part, it activates the next part. Dose anybody out there in LBP figured this out...please help.

I'm attempting to build a boss in that caliber to have like 2 or 3 stages or parts. first being a light battle, then activating more stuff to make the fight harder. Tips and advice is GREATLY appreciated.

Probably an AND switch like...

So when the first part is defeated the first piston extends, activating the first magnet key switch which activates w.e is needed to do the second action from the boss, then when that's defeated, it activates the 2nd piston and moves the magnet key to the next magnet key switch and etc. etc.

There is a reason why the entire level is just the boss. It is very complicated and taxing on the thermometer. The way I thought it went was when you destroy a part, it dissolves a block which lets a magnetic key fall onto another dissolvable block. That key activates tons of switches that control Rex. After you hit the next part, the dissolvable block underneath the key is destroyed which makes the key fall into the next batch of switches.

That's how I would do it.

Destroying each paint switch on the boss changes the state (placement) of a key off screen from the boss. This in turn gives the creature a different set of directions and will trigger a different series of movements and attacks while still using the same "creature" for the boss fight. The creator boss uses a similar trick to change attacks halfway through its first form. Its second form is different, you see the creator is essentially two different creatures stacked on top of each other. Once the first series of brains is destroyed the first section (form) of the boss dissolves away along with a key that then triggers the movements for the second stage of the boss.2009-01-11 08:42:00

yes that is a great way to go about this, the key falls, and activates the switch which starts the the loop of events. Very clever if you ask me, what i would think would be cool is if you could download the levels to your moon, and be able to look at the behind the scenes action going on to make the boss battle work out and be so epic.

Cheers!

That was what I was thinking also. just to point out ways to do different stuff and build on top of what MM does. I hope in the future MM will consider this.

I really appreciate all you guys comments. Really brilliant ideas. I did something similar using the dark matter off screen with my helicopter. I didn't think to used it a levels. Thanks guys.
