Musicing - Can I do it?

Archive: 8 posts

I want to make a soundtrack for one of my levels in LBP with the music sequencer; however I have no musical talent at all. I already have an idea of what I want it to sound like, I just cant put it together. I've tried to make one already but with no success. I barely start and it kinda sounds ok, but as it repeats it sounds worse and worse to me, and I give up after doing barely anything.
Is there some advice someone can give me, like an easy way to start out making a track, or if I should even attempt at all? Any sort of help on making a soundtrack would be helpful to me, especially for beginning to make one. ALSO, I will not have anyone making one for me, that's out of the question.

Liquid_Blood made a great tutorial over on LBN. It may help you out. Worth a look. Liquid's Music Tutorial (http://www.littlebignetwork.com/showthread.php/12783-To-Sequencer-from-Sheet-Music)2012-08-30 00:42:00

Heh... Musicing is a weird word to read. I read it as "Mus-icing". Delicious!

That's a good mindset. Do it all yourself eh? Well ATM I'd honestly say starting with drum beats & percussive rhythms is a good place to start with creating your own music. With anything percussive you don't have to worry about tone of notes or musical scales. Given your rather frequent industrial style of creating though, music that is mainly percussive & rhythmic would fit in very well if you are to continue that style in whatever project you are working on. Check out the sounds in baiyon shiny, baiyon guildford and the drums sounds. An amazing song could be made even with those few instrument samples.

Ah thanks guys! That should help me out... And I agree musicing is a funny word to say, I thought the same thing. I also though it was just funny in general, so I used it.2012-08-30 14:22:00

If you want to start making music, lemme just say, you won't have a masterpiece on your first try. It takes practice and practice. Playing an irl insturment (or however you spell it) helped me a lot too

I used to have little to no past music experience but I have made some very good music in LBP, IMO. It can help to listen to a lot of music to give you ideas to see what you like. Even if you try to mimic a guitar solo you like or something, the failed attempt could sound good with a bit of work and not sound anything like what you were originally copying, if you know what I mean. And the more you play around with sequencers, the easier they get and the more fun it becomes. Once you get one good track and have the drive to do more, you're on the right path 2012-08-30 15:32:00

I make up all my music as I go on. I just throw together some random notes, but in a way so it actually sounds like a melody. Like, rearrange the notes so they sound like a song and not a 3 year old banging on a keyboard. Then, I add more audio tracks that go along with the main melody. It's that easy.2012-08-30 16:08:00
