LBPC Spotlight Censorship (disabling reviews/comments on the Hubs)

Archive: 12 posts

I just wanted to post a link to this topic at LittlBigPlanetarium, since the discussion concerns LBPC I thought it should be mentioned here: http://www.littlebigplanetarium.com/topic/5401-lbpc-spotlight-censorship/page__p__57417__fromsearch__1#entry574172012-08-26 22:46:00

Maybe the spotlight crew would consider modifying their hub to include a short optional spotlight tutorial?

Might cut down on the controversy without leading to censorship.

Anyway, I've got nothing to add. The crew is capable of making their own decision on this XD

Yeah i have seen a lot of really bad comments on the hubs but what the spotlight are forgetting is that if they disable comments then they are just setting themselves further away from the LBP community.

I can see why they would be upset but to put themselves on a different level to everyone who isn't part of LBPC (Which is what they are doing by disabling the comments even if that isn't what their trying to do) will create more hate. Think of it in these terms 'Hi all here's our hub of levels from our site. Oh btw don't bother speaking to us as our comments section is disabled.' That is how your standard LBP playing will see it unless they actually go to the forums.

A lot of the lbp community already see LBPC as a stuck up group that only takes care of its own. Now i know this isn't true and sounds stupid but it is what i have seen outside of the forums. Even some of my friends who i create with are against LBPC and hate this site.

if I wanted it posted here, I would have posted it here. I was trying to get some feedback from NON LBPCers. I realize there are a lot of cross forum people, but there are also a lot of people who stick just with that site, so I wanted their outside opinion. I got a lot of great feedback both pro and con for disabling comments/reviews. We already state pretty clearly in the hubs just how the Spotlight works but some of these clowns just aren't getting it. We are working on something else though. 2012-08-27 01:41:00

Well since you want honest opinions I can truthfully say I never noticed these guides until I went looking for them a couple of minutes ago. Then again I've never had a reason to look for a guide so maybe my view is biased. The most noticable location would be on the accounts "about me" section, don't take this the wrong way but I would think it should take a little more preference than the hubbie persona.

Hoping y'all in the Spotlight crew don't hate me for this opinion, but I assume you want the most honest viewpoint.

Surely you would have thought the second you posted it that it would cause discussion within the site involved.

I did read through those comments and they are all valid points but the people you really should get comments from are those out side of the forums as their the ones you are advertising the level hubs to. Us here at LBPC already know about the spotlighted levels as do most people within the other major forums so most of our comments are from people who are also part of LBPC.

Everything i said above is the interpretation of non LBPC goers not me, like i said i create with more than just people from this site and i am also involved with the other sites as are half of my friends.

Any way i hope this other thing you are working on will help fix the issue or at least dumb it down. It would be nice if we could help with ideas or at least know a little more now and again so we can try to help as we all love the spotlights. If it wasn't for Pookachoo making this thread i wouldn't even have known about this issue.

I would have just replied in the Planetarium thread but for some reason my work computer doesn't allow me to log on there so stating my point here seemed a good as any.

The way I see, the LBPC spotlight account is just that, a means to represent the spotlighted levels in the game. If people are having a serious issue with it, they could just go to LBPC and state their concerns.

I say turn them off.

The comments have no purpose besides a place for people to vent their frustration. There's not going to be any 'review' of the spotlighted levels, since the spotlight was already done, and the levels are not directly related to LBPC. LBPC is just showing them.

Perhaps a disclaimer that any issues should be taken to this site, since it is a separate entity from MM. Also, like suggested, put the rules in the account profile info area.

I agree... I don't see any purpose to comments left there. If you are looking for love or kudo's have them come here. If they have complaints.. they can come here to where we can deal with them much more effectively than allowing them to spam some nasty comments and never revisit. ...of course they may do the same thing here, but we can reply much better. lol

If you leave the comments up... then don't read them. Allow them to post whatever and just don't look.

I still like Stagg's suggestion of turning them off and putting a disclaimer to come here for comments and questions.

The way I look at it is the spotlight is mostly for LBPC members as folks that have come here were tired of finding stuff on their own or having their amazing levels not be appreciated. The spotlight then decided to share those with the community via this hub concept. Well... just like real life, folks either love that, hate that, are jealous of that etc.. No matter what the good intentions and if they get to know you and us that we could change their minds, there are still going to be those that feel in their mind LBPC, the spotlights or the spotlight hubs are bad for the community.

Don't feed the trolls or even give them a place to get a foothold. Just turn off the comments. Have them come here to make themselves known.

I agree with Dav1d0 that the "about me" section for Hubbie could be more informative. That might help for the players who take the time to read. For those who don't, nothing can be done.
I do understand the reason for turning off comments, and I also think that it's better to let the complainers vent. Realistically I thin it's unlikely that most people leaving negative comments will bother coming here to discuss.

There seems to be a sentiment from some players that this is and elitist clan. In interest of diffusing that idea I think it's important not to create distance between "us" and the rest of the community, as Lordwarblade mentioned.

In the other thread someone (don't remember who) made a good point: If people want to complain and the Hubbie comments are off, they might be more likely to just post those complaints on the spotlighted levels.

I hate you, go away, leave me alone! I'm leaving!
LOL, C'mon man! Get outta here with that nonsense. You're entitled to your opinion and I truly value it. Love ya brother! (but not in that way)

Nope, not really.

sorry, everything after the "their" was blah, blah, blah to me. Kidding. I keed, I keed. I see what you're saying. Good points. Also, my work computer won't let me onto the Planetarium either. It won't let me on the main page, but I can kind of go around my elbow to get to my....well, you get what I mean. You also bring up a good point of letting everyone here at LBPC help with ideas. Food for thought.

This is one of the main things I took from that thread as well. In the end, it's about promoting these awesome levels and getting more traffic to THEM. We certainly don't want to do anything that may cause the idiotic comments to move to those levels.
Like I said, we've got something up our sleeve that may..or may not alleviate the situation. We'll just have to wait and see. Anyway, thanks for the great feedback guys!
Oh, Jdubs and SStaGG, you guys also bring up some great points.

Hi everyone I wrote that review that was highlighted on the other website and I shouldn't have but Ill explain. It was a misunderstanding basically........... My level was supposed to be put in the prior spotlight but for some reason it was not put in but I was told it was in and on the write up for the spotlight it said it was. I tried to tell the spotlight crew the error and left private messages and commented on the spotlight and was ignored. I continued to be nice and kept messaging and was still ignored. So when the next spotlight went up I let my emotions fly. It was only after writing this review and upsetting a lot of people they realised they had left my level out by error. Later I was sent a private message to say sorry. But I had been outcast Anyway I apologised and that's that. To be ignored is frustrating but my review wasn't justified as LBPC do so much to help the community. I hope you may understand now to some degree and except my apology for your error 2013-11-08 19:55:00
