Sandbox mode
Archive: 21 posts
You have just clicked this thread thinking "look mate there is already a create mode" But I said Sandbox mode well here's the explaination Today I was looking back at some of the old E3 videos, one video came up that gave me an idea. Now create mode is good and all but playing with 4 people is a nightmare. The camera always zooms out then it's impossible to see. Hover mode makes everything a pain to. So how to solve this? well back in the E3 videos we saw Alex Evans and the other guy (Don't know this name) just playing around not make a level but just playing around with materials. This could work similar to create mode although all the create controls hover mode undo etc. are not in this mode its just a mess around mode basically How would people enjoy this? I think everyone would it, it's create mode without all the messy issues. Also it would fix the problem with your friends always spamming you with stickers this then allows them to do it here. So if you think its a good idea contribute your ideas to | 2009-01-11 03:02:00 Author: Defaultsound Posts: 137 |
After seeing this video, I think it would be better if LBP was like this, and That costume is awesome, the one with the cape | 2009-01-11 03:35:00 Author: BloodFlameX Posts: 349 |
Well it would be a welcome thing. but better yet, they let us check out their levels on our moon. Like copying thier levels to our moon so we can check out how they made them. That would be pretty cool. But i guess sandbox could be used on any level that you have made or any one that the developers have made. And then it could be an option for people who create their levels to turn the option for sandbox mode on. Cheers! | 2009-01-11 06:45:00 Author: RAINFIRE Posts: 1101 |

But yeah an option to have your level be a sandbox level sounds a good idea | 2009-01-11 11:45:00 Author: Defaultsound Posts: 137 |
Wow, that video is awesome. Why did they take that out? | 2009-01-11 11:56:00 Author: Unknown User |
Wow, that video is awesome. Why did they take that out? They didn't take it out that is basically the early create mode. Sandbox mode would be that basically so create mode with out the hover undo redo options | 2009-01-11 12:28:00 Author: Defaultsound Posts: 137 |
Well, they kinda did take it out... But anyway... I hope MM will give that to us later on, after they fix all the bugs. | 2009-01-11 13:06:00 Author: Unknown User |
Mmmm... this early demo still makes me warm inside. To be honest I was really disappointed that we don't get that canvas material that rips when you plop a sticker on it. Heh. Also They're plopping stickers down on ground level and/or at least it seems like it's easier to place stickers on the top side of things. Not to mention there isn't any 3-layer restriction. But of course, this was just an early tech demo when they were just testing the fundamental game mechanics. I do wish they'd have an online coop mode for that sort of thing though, of course. Don't we all? | 2009-01-11 13:56:00 Author: Foofles Posts: 2278 |

Don't we all? My guess is that was ALL you would be able to do in Create mode unless they tweaked it, so they did and they left most of the early stuff from the tech demos out. | 2009-01-11 14:20:00 Author: Unknown User |
That video brings memories back, LBP looked much better then. Anyway, i don't really understand what you are talking about, why would you want a create mode without hover and reverse? Yeah i'm very well aware about that multiple players and create mode just doesn't work together, but why would a second create mode which is only worse than the original one help? if you don't want to use hovermode or the forward revers buttons and just play around in create mode why don't you just do that? Why would we need two create modes for that? What we really need is Split screen on the same console and each one to have individual screens in online create. | 2009-01-11 15:30:00 Author: Marklin80 Posts: 458 |
Wow... that video was cool. I don't think we have anything like that cloth tool now... But, even more awesome, is that it wasn't layer based. It seemed like you could just place objects wherever, like in a REAL 3D thing, as oppposed to layers... Was LBP originally supposed to be a 3D game viewed from the side, as opposed to a 2D game with multiple 2D planes? O_O | 2009-01-11 15:40:00 Author: RockSauron Posts: 10882 |

O_O It would be great, but this build seems to be way before the current build's engine scene graph management was in place. It's just much easier on the creator, and the game engine, to divide the calculations into seperate laters. | 2009-01-11 16:19:00 Author: Foofles Posts: 2278 |
Let me get this straight... You want a create mode without hover or undo? Heres an idea... don't hover and don't undo, and save MM a lot of time developing an almost exact replica of create mode ^^ When online creating comes about, it will probably be that anyway.. Although personally I amn't looking forward to online creating. How is the rewind tool and stuff moderated? Who gets control? what if you didn't want what you just made undone because the other person slipped up? | 2009-01-11 17:10:00 Author: Pinchanzee Posts: 805 |
I love this, it would be so great if LBP had that much space to use. | 2009-01-11 21:56:00 Author: MrLinksys Posts: 35 |

When you turn hover mode off it zooms out the camera and you can't see have it so that everyone needs to be on screen. It would work trust me | 2009-01-12 04:58:00 Author: Defaultsound Posts: 137 |
maybe they should tweak the camera then, but theres no need for a second create mode. | 2009-01-13 12:39:00 Author: Marklin80 Posts: 458 |
I had an idea the other day... It's never gonna happen but I think it's worth posting. I think it'd be cool if they had two modes that you could choose from eg. "Classic Mode" and "Normal Mode" so you could choose how you wanted to play. Of course, this would mess up everything and they'd have to make a whole new server just for Classic Mode... but I felt like I had to post this | 2009-01-13 12:49:00 Author: Unknown User |
why did they take that out it would be funner with it and why did the graphics look better plus the lighting I mean y? | 2009-01-13 14:13:00 Author: Mod5.0 Posts: 1576 |
why did they take that out it would be funner with it and why did the graphics look better plus the lighting I mean y? The lighting used there can be done with the current system. As for the graphics, this would have been when the system was still more running like a 3D engine rather than it's more fixed 2.5D that we currently have. Certainly, it looks nice, but in terms of platforming, it's pretty useless. Why would you have that much depth when it's completely unusable for the player? And before people start talking about making things look nice, I'd like to point out that you do have depth with the current system with 7 layers to work with. Being able to go deeper or shallower than that would just put too much strain on the processor I suspect. It's likely that the area they were in for the video was as big as it could ever be, which is hardly workable from a platforming perspective. | 2009-01-13 21:38:00 Author: Elbee23 Posts: 1280 |
