Disc VS Digital

Archive: 7 posts

I have the disc version of LBP2. I just purchased a 1 year PlaystationPlus membership and got a free digital versino of LBP2. I would like to install this digital version so I can access LBP2 easier. Will there be any complications with doing this? Will I lose my profile? I hear that digital profiles(saves) conflict with the bluray profiles. Is this true?

I won't download LBP2 on my PS3 until I know for sure because my internet is terrible and it will take....a long long time to download it. Even though it's probably only 4gb.

I haven't used PS+ but I've had so many oddball save corruptions with LBP2 that I backup data regularly and save it to USB, even without any preemptive "reason". If you're worries at all, do this before you activate the digital version of the game. Now that you've got PS+ you can cloud save for future backups, but if I understand you're only really "renting" the digital copy as a PS+ subscriber. It's smart to keep a hard copy on USB to go with your hard copy disc version of the game anyway.2012-08-24 03:57:00

Yeah exactly. I don't want to lose my profile if my subscription suddenly expires or anything silly. Idk I don't think it's worth downloading. I own the disc version. I'm just too lazy to switch the discs when I play other games lol. Oh well, i'll just download Walking Dead and Infamous 2 XD2012-08-24 04:16:00

Ha!

When the Great PSN Outage of 2011 happened, I ended up with seven (seven!) digital copies of LBP1. And I still kept using my disc version.

As much convenience and promise as digital media offer (offers?), with all the "user agreement" revisions each month and the increasing friction over "ownership" of digital media (not just with PS+ but everything), I'll be a hard copy gamer for many years still. And I have more reason to go digital than most, living internationally and being cut off from huge amounts of content unless I buy online. I like to physically have a game in hand when I pay money, for the security that it's a self-contained thing that has nothing to do with my internet connection. Although, sadly, with more and more games that's not true.

Definitely put LBP2 on hold and enjoy the Walking Dead episodes while you can! I have a feeling those won't be free for much longer. How much would it suck if they suddenly shifted the PS+ free game lineup on September 1st next week, and you'd spent the last 3 days crippled waiting for LBP2 to download... only for it to corrupt your current LBP2 data, and then you couldn't get through Walking Dead because it expired. Augh!

Yeah, the only digital download PSN store games I have are the free ones (like EyeCreate) and the free games from the event arbiekko mentioned. It saves space and bandwidth to get the hard copy.

And then there's Valve Software. lol don't mind me

Those are good digital downloads.
