Help with some helicopter logic

Archive: 14 posts

Hello . I am pretty bad at logic so can't figure out how I would do this...?

I want to make it so the right stick on the controlinator rotates the helicopter forwards and backward AND moves it left and right too (forwards and backwards) At the moment I have the R2 and L2 buttons used to raise and lower the heli with a advanced mover and input combiner. It seems if I use a advanced rotator, it rotates freely 360 degrees, there isn't a way of limiting the rotation. If anyone can help, much appreciated!

Just to be sure - Do you want players to have full control over the angle of the Helicopter, allowing them to 'aim' the front of the vehicle accurately, or do you want the Helicopter to naturally arch forward or backwards a little based on it's speed like a real helicopter would?
I'm not 100% certain which you meant.

Ah, OK. Then I know just the thing.

Use a Joystick Rotator.
Firstly, plug a Battery into the 'Up/Down' input.
You may need to adjust the Batteries strength, but it should be a positive value, not a negative value.
Then place a Speed Sensor down, set to detect Left/Right speed, and wire that into the Left/Right input of the Rotator.
The speed setting the Speed Sensor requires, should be set to a slightly higher number than the Movers that allow your 'Copter to move.

Attach the left/right from the right stick to a signal splitter. Each output goes to a sequencer, set to positional. Place the batteries as shown, and each battery goes to a gyroscope, each leaning it farther. The big batteries go to the OR gate, which goes to a NOT gate, then a gyroscope at regular position. This will allow your copter to lean further the more you press the stick. You can adjust settings to make it smooth.

EDIT: If Ostler's solution doesn't work for you, and need help with mine, send me a friend request and I can help you out.

What do you need the right stick for?
This system makes the helicopter tilt based on the speed it is moving at, rather than the Controlinators output.

Nevermind. Thanks for the help both of you guys.2012-08-23 00:19:00

There is a couple problems. The speed sensor doesn't seem to be doing its job properly on the forward rotation. Also, if you hold the right stick right to go forward, the help will "bounce" a little back into its normal position each time it reaches the max angle2012-08-23 11:11:00

Have you tried my solution yet?

Your solution was the best way of doing this, until the addition of Speed Sensors and such. It's also less thermo efficient. Instead of trying to make this some sort of competition, why not actually care about giving people the best answer?

As for your Speed Sensor, have you got it detecting the correct movement? The icon in the Tweak Menu should be a little arrow facing both left and right. (But not up and down.) By the sounds of things you've got it on the wrong setting.
I tried screwing around, but I simply couldn't work out exactly what you've got wrong.
On the off chance something is misplaced, here's a picture of my setup - http://i3.lbp.me/img/ft/2a31dffa5eeac5f853639de57f4b0273ab6dbe01.jpg

Is it possible part of your helicopter isn't glued correctly and it's weighing down the helicopter? Movers only apply to things which are properly attached. If you have, say, a window that isn't glued, it's stuck inside the helicopter, but the game treats it as a separate object and that will effect the way your object moves.

Have you tried my solution yet?

Yes I have, and I have to say that method needs the gyroscopes to be endlessly tweaked - I've had mucher better results with the other method. Thanks though.

I wasn't trying to make a competition out of it. I was typing my response when you posted yours. I simply asked if he had tried my idea because he was having difficulty getting your method to work. If your method works better, then that's what he should use.
I am somewhat insulted that you would assume that I don't "care about what's best for the other person". If I didn't, I wouldn't have bothered trying to help at all.
