Local Space still broken?

Archive: 7 posts

Is local space on cameras still broken? I can't seem to get a third person camera to follow the player in a top down racer. It's like it's only changing the direction and not the tilt.

Honestly, this game feels more broken now than it did at launch.

assuming you mean the "3d cam" where a local space camera is placed on the side of a bit of material then tweaked to achieve a 3rd or 1st person view, it is a glitch and not an intended feature therefore there is no reason to expect it to ever get "fixed" in the way you're saying.
even if they did want to fix it they would also have to fix the way things render from that view as it is way too easy to make a level that makes the game itself look really bad with that view

Yeah.. With a local cam you can only tilt backwards so far.. Which isn't very far at all.. but if the camera always stays fixed on the back of the object & turns with it, that's a proper local cam.2012-08-19 03:12:00

I don't mean the first person glitched camera, the level I'm making is top down. I just want to be able to turn left or right and have the camera follow me, rather than having a fixed view.2012-08-20 11:13:00

set the camera to local space and make sure the cam is on the face of the object (the side closes to you) and the view will rotate with the object.2012-08-20 15:50:00

Yeah, that's what I'm doing, It's changing direction ok but the tilt remains the same.

Worth mentioning also, that it's Movie Cameras I'm having trouble with. It works fine with a Game Camera, I'd just prefer to have the Flatness setting.

With a movie camera the local space setting seems to work differently then with a game camera in that the tilt stays constant despite the local space setting. This can get annoying but the only options I know of to get around it are to use a game camera or to go into an excessive amount of convoluted logic in order to rotate the whole level around the player as seen in some 3d levels.2012-08-20 18:34:00
