I looked around and couldn't find a thread for this anywhere, so I figured I'd just make one! (Apologies in advance if it exists but I just missed it). DayZ is an extremely popular mod for ARMA 2/ARMA 2: Operation Arrowhead on Steam that turns the game into a massively multiplier online zombie survival horror game. The mod uses a 1:1 time scale (the game's time depends on the server location's time zone), boasts a massive persistent world 255 square kilometers in size, and permanent death (meaning if you die, you lose everything and must start over). In order to survive in this unforgiving world you must scavenge supplies in an effort to eat to avoid starvation, keep your body temperature normal to avoid getting hypothermia, bandage wounds to avoid heavy blood-loss, and of course, avoid being eaten by zombies all the while. However, other players can pose an even greater threat to you than zombies or dysentery--in a world with no rules, they can either help you survive by trading you supplies, or rob you blind in the street and gun you down. Anything is possible in such an open sandbox-style game. You can visit the mod site here (http://dayzmod.com/)! That's not a DayZ thread. Day Z is an Arma 2 mod so those threads would likely be merged. There isn't a distinct Minecraft or Skyrim mod thread on this forum despite their popularity here, for instance.

I read somewhere that they're releasing it as a standalone game, so perhaps it does deserve its own thread.

Day Z is an Arma 2 mod so those threads would likely be merged. There isn't a distinct Minecraft or Skyrim mod thread on this forum despite their popularity here, for instance. The mod makes it a completely new game, whereas mods for other games typically just add to the existing game. Tons of people play DayZ without even touching ARMA II. I read somewhere that they're releasing it as a standalone game, so perhaps it does deserve its own thread. They certainly are! They hope to release it for purchase this year, but no release date has been set. Also, this fact proves that this mod is practically its own game already, warranting its own thread.

It's a shame my PC is rubbish, because from what I've seen of this game, it looks quite enjoyable. There needs to be more open world zombie games with the emphasis on survival.
