Can you beat 2x's at your own?

Archive: 53 posts

well, last when I tried to collect all the prize bubbles, in the 2nd level of the Canyons(forget the exact name), there was a part with some kind of a bridge where your 'car' should go across, but with that bridge you can launch your friend(2nd player) right up to get a prize bubble.. but.. this is also possible, at your own!
yes, you didn't read anything wrong, when you pull the lever to control the bridge, you have to jump up the bridge fast to launch yourself.. you have to be pretty quick to do it, but I could do it too, good luck!

also, in the first level of the Wedding(Wedding Reception?) there is also a 2x part which can be done at your own.. you have to grab the lowest sponge thing, to pull the platform down, then fast jump at the middle sponge, to keep it down, then jump as fast as possible(pretty hard) to the second highest sponge, to keep it down again, then jump after the platform to be launched at the sponge, hanging at the skull's head, you can just grab it on your own, and there will be 3 prizebubbles launched!!

(yes I did this all at my own, with one controller!!)

There is actually another way to get the Boom Town one. Blow up the bombs near the bank(there are some under the building that you can push around). Good advice with the second one, though.2009-01-10 19:31:00

I could have sworn I found another one other than those mentioned (though, I've never tried the Boomtown method, but I assume it works). I can't seem to remember right now.

Being away from my PS3 sucks...

Yeah I got the 2x of the Canyons one by myself (the stage is The Mines, by the way ), although I was playing co-op anyway haha. Two controllers makes it pretty easy, though still have a bunch of 3P and 4P ones to get through.2009-01-12 05:48:00

There's a trick where if you switch your controller's port, the previous Sackboy will remain in the level for a few seconds. It's not very long, but for challenges where, say, you have to stay on a switch right next to a checkpoint, simply switching the controller port will give you an extra Sackboy which you can move around quickly before the other one disappears.

I've used this trick to get a few of the 4x challenges since I only have 3 controllers

Also in the BUnker, the four player game to get the dragon head. I managed with 2 players. Me and a Friend. You can see my post related to this within the Story levels section2009-02-02 18:36:00

4 controller owner and proud! Done that 4x to get dragon mask. I wub it. I did 4x on that Idian one, sorry, forgot name. Quite proud . Also I did the first Wilderness 4x one with 2 people, really awkward hand position though, holding the spinny things back >.<. As for the Islands one, yikes, I have yet to attempt that.

Yeah I found that 2x mines one too, pretty dissapointing with 1 prize :S.

Thanks for the tip on the weddings one, I saw my friend do it, I was impressed

Much thanks,

Will.

Yeah, I discovered both of the ones you mentioned, but I don't think that you can get any others on your own.

Actually that's not true, as i didn't have a router for until a month or two after i got LBP and only have 1 controller, i had to come up with ways to get mos of the multyplayer stuff, and trust me, there are A LOT of levels that can be passed with a single player and only one controller, and altho it was pretty difficult, i managed to get the majority of items.
And those that was completly impossible to pass with just one player i had to wait until i got the router...
But as i said, the majority of the multyplayer can be passed alone.
Actually i think i'll make a thread about it explaining how to do it....

I was just thinking that it's too bad I don't have 4 controllers.... and then I remembered that I have Guitar Hero World Tour. Oh, and a DVD remote. And a Logitech steering wheel too.

Geez, that's 7 controllers. Now I need to go see if any of them work with LBP.

I had to use some tape (...), but did almost all the x2 and x3s on my own too. I've still 3 x2's and some others left though. I just don't have the skill to steer a sackboy over vanishing platforms with my toes.2009-04-02 08:56:00

I did this too! I also managed to do the Boom Town one as well, but in all honesty, I have not played this particular level in quite a while so I'm not sure how I did it, which sucks =( I've never tried the wedding reception on my own though, I should try it. Thanks for this!

Blowing up the bank in boom town was the hardest one for me I think. The trick is to use the cloth gangplank to push the cars with explosives acrossthe gap (and, again, you'll need some tape of course...).2009-04-02 17:17:00

I beat them all (ok, maybe like 95% of them) on my own.

However... I did use another controller. Was difficult... lol

First off, you can't use all 8 at the same time in the game even if you wanted to as you can only have 4 players no matter whatsoever.
Secondly, having the controllers make it way easier to control as your character is maitained automatically, i had to be switching back an forth the controller port quickly before the other char dissapeared and still manuver both well enough to get the preizes, jeez.

I did this yesterday by stealing some explosives from the buildings on the left of the bank! If you blow up the first building, the building to the right (just left of the bank) falls apart and you can just lay out some explosives in front of it, go back and trigger them. I took some photos because it amused me, I'll post them later.

Sheesh, what happened with good old fashioned friendly co-op? xD
You guys seem to be trying everything in your power to avoid playing with other people..
My dad got interested so he helped me with all the 2x bits It was pretty funny watching him fail ^_^ Much more fun than doing it all methodically with your hands on one controller and feet on the other

p.s. It took me and some comrades about an hour to get the mines ones :L We did it the old fashioned way

Its not like i had a choice you know...
I didn't have a router and couldn't go online for about 3-4 months after i got LBP,so i had to find some pretty unconventional ways to get all the 2X/3X players with one controller (only have one)
The only thing i soculdn't get like this are the stuff from the dancers court, and he creator's 4x players stuff, for that i had to wait for a while...

I've discovered one that i think you guys didn't know of yet. It is in the same level as the one with the 2x challenge where you have to blow up the underside of the bank.

It is the 2x challenge where one player holds open a door, and the other uses mine to blow up the carton layers.

First i'll show two (bad) drawings i made in paint, to help clear out the solution.

http://img25.imageshack.us/img25/7075/explain1b.jpg
http://img25.imageshack.us/img25/6932/explain2.jpg

The first drawing was just a sketch of what the challenge looks like.

The second drawing is more important. I visualized what i am about to explain in words now. Please read the following, and then compare it to the drawing so (hopefully) you know what i'm talking about.

Step 1
Gently place mines into the part where the deadly gas is. This part is there to prevent the player from cheating, obviously. I will refer to this part as the tube.

Gently place mines into this tube. You will want them to make a row of about 5 or 6 mines. Then you can safely blow up the first one in the row, and the chain reaction will blow up the piece of carton. Probably takes 2 tries.

Step 2
Under the first part of carton you just blew up, there's another part. You will have to throw mines into the tube, instead of gently laying them down. Note: This is the hardest part of beating this challenge on your own. You will have to throw them as low to the ground as possible, so that the mine won't explode from the fall. Your mine should now have just enough speed to get over the tiny edge at the end of the tube. (see drawing 2 step 2)

Step 3
The final, easy part is stacking up the mines to create an impressive tower of mines The mines will then hold the button by it's own weight. (And gravity)

I hope that explained it well enough, and i hope it helps you beating this 2x challenge!

(Please try this, and tell me if it worked. If you managed to pull it off, it would be cool to make a video out of it if you can. That's obviously the best explanation.)

@ Thommythethird

Lol, Tommy, to tell you the truth, that's the way i did that part as well for the first time...
Tho i didn't think anyone else knew, or was willing to do it. XD
Good job finding it tho, you're probably the 3rd one that i know that knows that's possible.

You can do the 2x which is under the piles of scrap cars and stuff i think on the first city level. Just posistion the sponge right about where the lethal thing jumps out of the smoke, then if you time it perfectly you should be able to grab the sponge and swing across without getting killed.2009-08-13 13:07:00

They are the easiest to do, but they are also impossible to do singularly (at least to my knowledge). Since the thread is about 2x's (or more) that can be completed without multiple players, I don't really think those apply.

It would be simple if the buttons are really close together so you can use 1 leg on 1 button.2009-08-13 23:43:00

I did most of the 2x puzzles on my own, using a second controller plugged into port #2...It was difficult for some, impossible for others, but usually i can run player 2 in a single direction while my player 1 does all the legwork...its frustrating though...i dont know why i didnt just play online for those! 2009-08-14 12:20:00

For me, it was the x4 in Frozen Tundra, mostly cause for the knobs, you have to hold it.

Any of them that weren't as simple as both players pushing something at once. The people I did it online with didn't have microphones and were terrible to cooperate with, making the challenges more like chores to complete.

^^ That cursed part. I could never do that on my own. I swear, that's still the only challenge I haven't beaten yet on my own.

I've beaten every challenge on my own before (4x on 1st Wilderness level was difficult... required lots of tape and awkward positions ), minus the one I've mentioned above. It's pretty simple, really. All you do is take care of one part at a time, with one controller. Really helps ya in the long run.
