Cave Explorer Beta

Hi everyone! Just got my newest update to the beta levels. These are all leading up to my ultimate level (for me at least lol). Added a few more moves and cleaned up the controls a bit. I think it's easier to control now and you can do more. It still takes a bit of work to master the moves, but once you do you can fly through most parts. This is a platformer/puzzle level. Only 1 player for now. Not sure if I'll even do two players. Its also a level about exploration. During the tutorial on controls it mostly seems linear, but at almost any moment you can shoot off to explore a random ledge or wall. There are 10 secrets in the level. Some are out in the open and others you have to but for or complete a challenge. Still working in on the combat system. The level itself itsnt the most attractive looking but it's because I'm mostly focused on the gameplay right now (plus I suck at all that cosmetic stuff lol). I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. I'm more than willing to do f4f. During the week I'm usually to busy, but on the weekends I normally have plenty of time to check out anyone's level. I took care of a few small glitches, still having trouble with respawning. If any one has ideas or wants more info go to the help forum and look at my emitter wont emit please. will work on the double jump soon and have that running better. Thanks everyone!

Okay so I'm gonna list the good things and the bad.

Good:
-the sackbot worked well and was easy to control
-the wall jumping and rolling and air dash all worked

Bad:
- The double jump was messed. It's like it decided on its own when it wanted to work.
- the repsawns had huge delays. I was just about to quit when my sack came back.
-Also about the respawning. When I first died it was at the fire part with the button to turn it off and stuff. Anyways when I died the view just sat there. And I repsawned in he exact spot I died. It happened a couple times. So I decided to go back to the nearest checkpoint and I turned it on it and died again it worked fine.
-the wall climbing didn't work well when and was kinda difficult. It wasn't to big of a problem at most parts but when there was two ledge hologram things, it got bad.

Okay overall it was very fun and I enjoyed flying from wall to wall. Rolling aroun and all that stuff. But with the bugs from the double jump and the spawning it just became less fun. First off I'm sorry I didn't leave you any feedback before. I forgot about it. If I get a chance today I'll do it right away. If not ill do it by this weekend the latest.
Second thanks for playing it and for the feedback. I know the double jump is glitchy and I'm workin on a new method for it. Same goes to the ledge climbing. For the respawn I had no idea it did that. During my est runs it never didnt go back to a checkpoint. I know that it has a bad delay, but so far I have no idea how to fix it. I had another method set up but you either wouldn't spawn at all or it would be random. As in you could respawn only once or from 2-8 times. I have no idea why. If you have any ideas or would like to look at it send me a message on psn (same use name). Thanks for your feedback.

A good start. I presume this is just a play about with a sackbot that will be used in a future level, if so then it's definitely a good start! The jump was very well done, it was a little glitchy as you already said but it's still very good. The clinging/climbing bit was good but it can be a little sticky, taking a few attempts to get up and over. The dash and super jump were very good. There were no glitches there, it was very good, probably my favorite feature. The wall climbing run smoothly for a little bit of the way up then it stopped working but I'll put that down to my technique. I'm guessing you haven't finished the knife attack yet. as I kept getting my poppit coming up rather that the knife attack.

So a very good start, with a few improvements here and there and it will be even better

Hey everyone just updated and republished the level. I fixed the double jump and smoothed out the ledge climbing. Neither are still perfect at moments but that's do to the set up of the item your standing/ climbing. I'm not gonna spend the time to fix all of those little details as I know what they are and how to avoid it for the actual level. Plus they will take to long for my patience on such a small issue for a simple beta level. Now I'm gonna sart working on the menu system. With the menu you will be able to buy upgrades potions and maybe a few other things. I also want to include a map for the level but I'm not to sure of the best way. If anyone has any ideas or examples please share them. I'm also still looking for ppl to help with some things like music. I'm horrible at it and would love for someone to make several songs for the level. I'm also thinking of making the game span multiple levels with a fast travel system. You bring up your menu and can choose another level to jump to I hope you guys enjoy the level and I still would like more feedback. Always open to f4f. Thanks

Sorry bout that I forgot to change those controls for the knife. I'll fix that for ya. And for the wall jumping, not to be mean, but it might just be your technique. Unless a glitch happened, there haven't been any issues with it suddenly not working. There are also a couple walls you can't wall jump from. That way you just can't climb out of the level. For the ledge climbing read my previous post about those. Thanks for the feedback though. But I also would like to know if anyone had fun doing it? I know that this is just a beta and my actual level will include a lot more, but did you have fun jumping around and such.

Ok just installed the last update for this beta level. This update doesn't have a menu or anything. Now instead of having all abilities from the start you get them through pickups as you do the tutorial. Not a big deal just a little practice for me mostly on the power up and upgrade system. It's fun to do, sure. Ledge climbing worked just perfect here, as did the wall slide. Wall jump is a bit tricky to master but that's my own problem.

The only real problem I had was with the double jump. Sometimes it just didn't work.

I like the double jump, tried breaking it every sort of way like jumping really late or early, but it functioned very well. Wall jumping was fun, and the roll-jump seems like a cool way to pass some obstacles. The cliff hang+jump seemed sort of awkward to me, but I got the hang of it when I realized it's better to release/repress the grab button to get from one ledge to another, instead of just holding it down.

The dash just didn't work at all for me, though. It said to jump and press circle+left/right, but I could never get it to work. Also, at the point where you get the dash upgrade, the double jump completely stopped functioning, too, so I was unable to get any further. I tried restarting and ran into the same issue a second time.

EDIT:
Ok everyone I just got it back up and running. Sorry for that issue. I forgot to set some tag sensor range and that's why it cut out. I tested it several times and besides the minor double jump bug it all seems to be working great. I hope everyone keeps playin and spreads the word for this level. As always I'm up for f4f.
