Some suggestions for this forum.

Archive: 12 posts

Ok here are some suggestions I think could maybe make the forum more nice perhaps.

#1 New images for the emotion icons . I always felt they could be better and I think it’s time for them to be replaced with new better ones.

#2 I’ve seen it done in other forums before. I would like to see that every member needs at least 100 posts for them to be able to create a new topic in the News and Media area. We have gotten so much spam or BS topics over time with people who try to post anything there. It’s mostly from new members who don’t understand the rules yet. And a 100 post requirement for the user to be able to create topics in there I think would fix that.

#3 Make the "Complain about Cool pages & MM picks topics" illegal on this site. They are really annoying and have been a problem on this forum for a long time. They get really spamy after a while too, and the debates last forever on the subject with no answer or any real conclusion… I mean why not auto get rid of them? A lot of LBP forums make H4H topics illegal to avoid spam and other problems that come from them. Sure I think people should have their freedom. But sometimes it’s best to limit things for the better of everyone. I think that sometimes to much freedom can be a bad thing depending on the subject. So I think the same should be done to the "complain about cool pages & MM picks topics". Again, Their spamy and always end up in no real conclusion.

anyways these are just some ideas of mine. i can understand if some of you don't agree with all of them. *mew

1. This is fine. I personally never had a problem with the current ones but I can see why new ones would be nice. An option to pick between an old and new set would be ideal for those who would prefer the current ones.

2. At first glance I thought this was good, but looking again, I think it would be a bad idea to limit what people who just joined could do. I know 100 points seems reasonable, but it sets precedence for the attitude of "you're less important because you just joined." Everyone should know that what they have to say matters, even if some people end up spamming.

3. I don't have much to say here since you already acknowledged the "freedom". Argument against blocking topics like that. All I have to add is that if there is no merit in them for someone in particular, the simplest solution is to just not read them.

That plan doesn't sound like a crazy idea at all. I tried to convince by making this one topic, but then I made the wrong turn and helped complain about the cool pages. I got it locked, but I want to delete all of the posts starting at #3. For the Mm Picks topics, complaining about them is bad, but asking on how to get Mm Picked isn't bad at all. But sometimes, ignoring doesn't work.

Surely you can just not read the #3 style topics? If someone wants to discuss the cool pages or MM picks, they can. It's not like it stops people creating threads that you want to be a part of.2012-08-12 13:52:00

#2 instead of having a 100 post limit maybe they should make you wait 3-5 days after confirmation of the account and you have to read the rules forum before any other forums will show up. I do agree too many stupid forums that were posted for no reason have been put on here a lot lately.2012-08-13 04:59:00

2 & 3: just ignore those "spammy" threads.(atleast that's what i call them) problem solved.

1: it's just fine how can you replace them? why fix what isn't broken right?

@ Fumetsusozo...thank you for sharing your perspective.

I think continuous improvement, whether it be more emoticons, special contests or new Forum with a fresh approach or perspective, are great ways to keep a site vibrant. I believe warlord, given time to come up to speed with vBulletin and as his confidence with this tool increases, we will see more improvements to the site.

Although I agree with imposing requirements on members to obtain specific site priviledges, I don't think that would solve the issue with individuals who look for every opportunity to create threads that qualify as useless banter. No amount of required posts will aid these individuals in achieving maturity.

As for "complaining", for whatever reason, just to complain, without offering a reasonable solution to a real or perceived problem, I believe those posts and threads should be immediately deleted, as they lack any real substance and do not benefit the site or it's members. These individuals could utilize the site's Private Messaging feature to complain, although that does not feed their desire to draw attention to themselves.

Thanks for your sincerity and worthwhile desire to improve LBPC.

That's why if any change were to happen, the best thing to do would be to leave both the new and original sets available. Just to pick between them.

#1. I could care less about what the emoticons look like.. As long as they accurately display my mood, I'm good.

#2. What if someone really needs to start a thread in the Help section? Then they will spam all the other threads to meet the 100 post goal, and then post their thread.

OR

They will just ask questions on random threads, not even relating to the topic. I can see this getting too messy.

#3. As said before.. Just. Don't. Read. Them. People are allowed to express their own opinions, aren't they? If the topid of a thread is someones opinion on something, and you don't agree with the topic.. Leave. It. Alone.

'nuff said.
