Prologue. (pics and vid) [Updated - no more checkpoint glitches]
Archive: 38 posts
Okay, I've updated my latest level and it is now called 'Prologue', for various reasons to do with the story. So here's the low down: Level Name: Prologue PSN: ryryryan Description: Basically, this level consists of you, a participant, going through a test facility and finally facing off against a rather familiar boss. (Don't worry, it's not from the LBP story, I made it myself). There's a rather clean art style, and what i found to be a suitable soundtrack too (Until the end, where it goes with the theme of the boss). Be warned - this level is very difficult. Only one other person has completed it bar me so far. But it's far from impossible. There's also a fare few secret areas, along with the boss as a prize in a 2 player area! I've also made the final boss a price if you ace the level. But that will be pretty hard. Media: Here's a vid of it, but I suggest checking it out yourself first if you can! Use this as an aid for parts you can't do maybe. The quality isn't too great, and unfortuanatly the sound cuts out halfway through. q5z0u3WMcA4 And here's a few pics: http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b164/ryryryan/P100109_1910.jpg http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b164/ryryryan/P100109_191001.jpg http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b164/ryryryan/P100109_1911.jpg BTW - I would do F4F but unfortuanatly I can't reach my PS3 now until end of Feb Bad times indeed. | 2009-01-10 06:45:00 Author: ryryryan Posts: 3767 |

Well, I just tried it, and...failed to load level. It did it for Shadow Moses too, but I was able to play the other two level you have. Don't worry, i think i can fix this problem in a minute. I'll update you guys when i've reupped it. EDIT: I can't get onto the servers. When i was republishing the level it failed, and from then on it wont load for anyone. When i can get back on i'll upload it again and it should work fine. EDIT2: Uploaded again. It should work now. Can someone confirm this? | 2009-01-11 00:35:00 Author: ryryryan Posts: 3767 |
Nope, still doesn't work | 2009-01-11 01:17:00 Author: Kog Posts: 2358 |
Oh. My. God. Did you try both versions i've uploaded? I'm about to give up with LBP if this doesn't work. | 2009-01-11 01:22:00 Author: ryryryan Posts: 3767 |

I'm checking right now. Thankyou CC. It probably won't though, the number of plays aren't increasing at all. I'm starting to get put off creating... which is pretty much all i do on LBP. :/ EDIT: Sigh. Well, I don't know what to do :/ Oh well, I can't get on the PS3 again now till late Feb anyway. EDIT2: I reupped it again. Don't know if it will do anything though. Last time now. | 2009-01-11 01:37:00 Author: ryryryan Posts: 3767 |
Have you tried doing "Save As" into another crater, then uploading that one? It might also be a 1.07 bug. | 2009-01-11 01:43:00 Author: aer0blue Posts: 1603 |
Have you tried doing "Save As" into another crater, then uploading that one? It might also be a 1.07 bug. Not yet, but i'll try that now. But this has happened to my other MGS level, which i made when LBP came out. It still doesn't work. And i've tried: -Republishing -Republishing to new space -Copying level to new moon space and Republishing -Editing level and republishing -Making the level copyable for Creative to upload All FAILS. :/ And that's been since LBP came out for me. EDIT: Republished through the suggested method. It's on page 3 of Cool levels right now, so i expect at least 1 or 2 plays.... | 2009-01-11 01:46:00 Author: ryryryan Posts: 3767 |

I ll tell you what i think when i play it Cool cool. It's pretty tough.... | 2009-01-11 02:13:00 Author: ryryryan Posts: 3767 |
It's pretty tough.... Oh really? That was the evilest level I have EVER played. I spent 5-10 minutes on the random yellow platforms that are on pistons. After FINALLY beating that I lost all lives after dying TWICE on the plasma ball place. Your infinite checkpoints are messed up, and don't work half the time so you have to pass in front of them several times to make them work. They also only give you two lives each. Pros: +The Challenges were pretty original +The beginning was pretty cool. +There was some cool detail, but only at the start. Cons: -The Checkpoints -The Materials looked slightly stupid, go for the more realistic metal, not the wierd yellow metal. -Hard -Evil -The Checkpoints -Needs more detail -The spinning ball that throws you through the electric tunnel got annoying -Only two lives sometimes because of the messed up checkpoints. -The Checkpoints -The random platforms that come out of the walls was VERY annoying. Overall it got 3 stars, and no heart Upgrade it with some of my suggestions, and you will have a pretty awesome level. | 2009-01-11 02:52:00 Author: Kog Posts: 2358 |

Mainly the one by the jetpack. Which is annoying as anything. As for the detail... i was tight on time and got lazy towards the end I'll stick to the yellow, purely because i like the theme. And as for the spinning ball... throw yourself back up through the whole you came down and you'll find yourself thrown into a secret area. Missing that whole annoying section out It's less exciting though. What did you think of the final boss? No mention of that lol. There's not much strategy to it at all, but i'll build upon it in the next level i make which includes it. My inspiration for the level was 'I wanna be the guy', so the whole thing is pretty punishing. As for the platforms coming out of the wall.... there's a certain method for doing it. I can do it every time now lol. It's about learning when to go, and where. They're all perfectly synchronised to not hit eachother, and give small gaps. Check out my vid for the best method. Thanks again for the feedback I'll get editing it when i come back home. | 2009-01-11 03:05:00 Author: ryryryan Posts: 3767 |

I saw the that secret area, went in it died, at a spot I knew I probably wouldn't pass, so I gave up going there. As for the Boss... I never got there. I've fixed the checkpoint at the plasma balls, and am revamping the decorations. It'll be published again in about half hour if you wanna retry EDIT: Done. Thanks for mentioning the detail, the level looks alot better now! Also changed the secret area a touch to make it easier | 2009-01-11 03:22:00 Author: ryryryan Posts: 3767 |

I got "Failed to Load level" today... | 2009-01-15 17:05:00 Author: Unknown User |
I got "Failed to Load level" today... I see. Don't worry, I can fix this one like I did before, it's not a big problem. It's just a shame that I have to wait till Feb 20th before I can get on my PS3 and put it back up. *sigh*. How annoying! It's caused by when republishing my levels, I'll get an error message alot of the time. Then after a while it will work, but will then people get 'Failed to Load Level'. If I publish it to a new space though it fixes the problem. And since I won't need to republish after i get it working that won't be a big deal. | 2009-01-15 17:15:00 Author: ryryryan Posts: 3767 |
Ive tryed it lots of times, countless checkpoints are glitched, keep flashing and dont respawn people, and i always get stuck on picture 2 were theres lots of things goind up and down. | 2009-01-22 21:55:00 Author: Dan_Westy Posts: 41 |
Ive tryed it lots of times, countless checkpoints are glitched, keep flashing and dont respawn people, and i always get stuck on picture 2 were theres lots of things goind up and down. woah wait... you could play it? i thought this was broke! How'd you find it anyway? I didn't think many people played levels past the first few pages of the showcase section. Anywho, i can't access the game for at least another month, so bare with me on this :/ I've already designed a much better way of doing checkpoints. It will be manual, but reliable. There will be a tutorial for it though. Also... the level is supposed to be PUNISHINGLY hard. I'm talking on par with I Wanna Be The Guy. But I can get to the end without dying now... so it is doable. Though it's very hard not to die on the RAY boss. That's nuts lol. And on the part with all the moving bars.... just keep trying till you find a method. There's also access to another secret area around there where i give the player RAY (if there's two of you). Thanks for playing though And i'll update this thread when i've fixed all the current problems. | 2009-01-22 22:05:00 Author: ryryryan Posts: 3767 |
Its always good to have a back up of your save just in case. | 2009-01-23 01:53:00 Author: sjbluedog24 Posts: 80 |
UPDATE! It's working again now. Fully playable The checkpoints are still a problem... so every time you walk away from one make sure it went bright for a few seconds to confirm it's activated. I'm waiting for the infinite life checkpoint to be added now. Also added the final boss as a prize if you ace the level. LOL. Good luck with that one Also just touched up on a few background things. | 2009-02-21 14:57:00 Author: ryryryan Posts: 3767 |
Okay, I've made some major updates. First off, I have totally redone a boring area to now be a proper challenge. It involves actually thinking about the solution, though there is a hint. And i've now put infinite live checkpoints in the level, as mine were glitchy. I would greatly appreciate it if you get a chance to play it and leave some feedback I am sorry that I can't do F4F, I'm back in uni tomorrow with no PS3 | 2009-04-24 03:20:00 Author: ryryryan Posts: 3767 |
Well, i'd love to return your F4F... but it seems broked D: I spawn in the cart of the level, and it doesnt move. I've actually played your level before, but i'd prefer a refresher (levels blend together sometimes lol) especially since youve updated it. | 2009-04-25 08:49:00 Author: Burnvictim42 Posts: 3322 |
****!!!! I forgot to reverse the wheel! I'll change it now. (I have to do of every time I edit the level) Fixed thankyou for that, it's literally 30 mins till I can't play my ps3 for 6 weeks! | 2009-04-25 10:52:00 Author: ryryryan Posts: 3767 |
I'm actually working on a level similar to this, with a series of difficult trials that should test various platforming skills, so it was interesting to see someone else's take on it. I completed the level. Yes it was challenging, but massively unbalanced. Certain sections were so unbelievably easy, whilst some were rediculous. Sections I liked were the climbing underneath stairs section - nice touch, and I liked the pistons moving all over the place puzzle, just because it was so complex but you could work it out by just looking at it, albeit for a long time! Bits I didn't like: I do think the jump back up from the bottom was a little unfair as I can't see my sack properly and I'm jumping with momentum into a very small safe space. I think that deserves a tweak on the camera or the electricity in that specific spot. The really fast spinning wheel that throws you past some electricity was entirely luck based as to where you go end up. I also didn't like the bit where you fire yourself on the piston and have to let go before getting squashed. It's a simple puzzle but you have to die to solve it, seems a little bit of a cheap death to me, but it's minor. The plasma balls / jetpack section. The last part of that got o the point where it wasn't even funny, having to move the jetpack at full speed with exact analogue control feels like "once more into the breach". I have been working on some sections that require analogue control, but you have to move slow, in a very claustrophobic space. I just feel this gives more of a sense of achievement than something where you could just throw yourself at it and get lucky. Thats pure opinion though so make what you will. You may wish to beat the big scary boss. I ran in, died; then I walked in, stood outside his range and bashed R1 until he died. Hope this helps | 2009-04-25 12:02:00 Author: rtm223 Posts: 6497 |

I'll be sure to play a level of yours once i get back on the PS3. (long time ) Yeah... thinking about it i don't like having thing's being 'cheap' in my level so i'll definatly remove that. Maybe make it slow but with spikes at the top so if you keep going you die I'll definatly rework the camera where you stated too, as i did it on a big TV close to me and didn't think what it would be like in other situations. I'll probably make it so you can't get electrocuted on the side, only squished by the piston if you're too slow. About the boss... i've had a good idea of putting a wall in after you get the paintinator (and it locks) so you have to dodge as you will be in range. I don't find the wheel spinning that luck based as it's easy to get it in the general direction. However I may make the electricity section shorter so it's easier to get by. On the wheel... if you decided to go back up where you came from (and shoot up the roof) you would of got to a secret area with an easier route The jetpack section is probably the biggest pain of the level... i could easily make it easier but honestly i like how difficult it is. I (though it's my level so i'm used to it) can do it every time so it's something which takes practice. I may make the last stretch a bit easier again... as i made it harder the other day Anywho thanks for the feedback, much appreciated! When i get back i'll be sure to edit what i stated | 2009-04-25 16:31:00 Author: ryryryan Posts: 3767 |
Okay, NOW i can give full F4F. good thing i waited for the update, BC it seems you changed some of it (at least i didnt remember the stairs before) Kind of a nice intro level, i'm curious as to what you're going to add to the full/later version (as this is just a prologue, right? ). Fun design on the car. The early grab swing area is a nice intro, though nothing spectacular. I think the stairway is the real grab swing portion I like how you did that, it required a little more work than just climbing ;p The wheels aren't that tough to get by, though as RTM stated the fast spinning one is a little bit of luck as to the timing. The rising/falling platforms reminded me of the absurdly long minigame of MMs (the sewer one). The piston section was a little annoying, how the movements had to be very precise and well timed. I came through with the feeling i had gotten lucky. The jetpack thing didn't bother me that much, it was a thing of timing, but it was spaced evenly, and wasn't too hard to time when the gap was open. The metal gear, though very cool looking, wasn't that difficult. like RTM said, i just stood back and pew pewed my way to victory. I thought it was also a little odd that it didnt disentegrate... could you attatch a protected brain to it, and set the shooting switch to kill the brain? Overall, worth playing, and again, thanks for the feedback. | 2009-04-26 05:22:00 Author: Burnvictim42 Posts: 3322 |
Yeah I'm definately going to add a wall/door in at ray so you're stuck in its range. Also... Can you put a wire to a brain?? I didn't know that. Unless I just have to use explosives to destroy it. I'll add that when I get home Oh, and I definatly want to make a sequel to this. I've already got some ideas, it will turn out real different actually | 2009-04-26 12:22:00 Author: ryryryan Posts: 3767 |
For the ray, I wouldn't lock the player in firing range. Just give them a sanctuary position with the respawn point, where they can observe the boss from safety but cannot attack him. It's a personal gripe of mine that too many lbp bosses aren't observable. | 2009-04-26 17:17:00 Author: rtm223 Posts: 6497 |

It's a personal gripe of mine that too many lbp bosses aren't observable. Okay, that's a good suggestion and i'll work on that Also I'm going to do a complete overhaul on his attack method. It's just a barrage of non-sensical attacks at the moment. I'm going to change the timing of everything so First RAY uses the Death RAY (moves head up and down while doing so like it does atm), then I will make it use the missiles from it's back (3 lots of 3), then i will make it turn the arm towards the player and fire plasma bullets. Finally there will be missiles that just fire straight from the knees, so you have to jump over it. I will get rid of the constant firing plasma (used to stop the player getting past RAY before it's beat) and make a angled proximity switch so if the player does try to run past, they get killed (undecided how yet, maybe a bomb as thats most reliable). Won't take too long hopefully, just needs a few well times Pistons set up off-screen. | 2009-04-26 20:23:00 Author: ryryryan Posts: 3767 |
Okay - so I just remembered why I can't make RAY disappear... he has to be glued to the ground xD And when he dissapears... the whole level does LOL. For the story aspect though it's best he doesn't disappear (If i carry on what I've got planned.) Anywho, cause I'm home for revision week, i quickly went on LBP and made some changes to the level. The boss is now easier... but enclosed so you can't fire from a distance with it not attacking you. Before you were pretty much guaranteed to die when close. Now it's skill based Also... the platform that quickly moves up no longer squishes you. It moves slowly... but there are spikes at the top so you have to jump off quickly I'll come back to it and improve this level more if I have the time sometime this week. I also have big plans for the next level now. I've thought up exactly where it's going to go story wise, with some great gameplay bits already planned xD | 2009-05-12 18:50:00 Author: ryryryan Posts: 3767 |
