RangerZero's Picks (or How I play too many hours)

Archive: 18 posts

RangerZero's Picks

With this thread I want to suggest you some levels from my hearted list that I think are worth your attention. Sometimes a nice concept, sometimes because of their gameplay potential. Can be that the level simply charmed me somehow. I'm focusing on those forgotten levels that nobody will play because they were up before the new search was updated and were already lost somewhere in the pile. They probably can't be found easily by anything else than a text search.

I've been updating the list a couple of times already as the core of the thread comes from another thread I made elsewhere. If ever you level is there and you own some better pics (my cam is cheap) feel free to tell me and i'll put them up.

Have fun. And don't hesitate to discuss the levels in the thread!

Wow. Great list! You actually sound a lot like me. I found so many gems that got pushed to the bottom of the pile, too. Levels that, if the new search had been implemented from the start, probably wouldn't have been buried so deep. Keep up the good work, I'll be sure to check back often. And if you want to find a few other hidden gems, hop on over to my Recommended Level thread. ^_^2009-01-10 19:19:00

Nice to meet "unpaid promoters" like me. lol

I'll be checking the levels you suggested, there's some i've never seen. Let's continue to share our findings. I will update this thread when I have time. That list there corresponds to like 3 or 4 pages out of a total of 11 pages of hearted levels page. (and still slowly growing)

Lately i've been working LONG hours on my third level. I hope to finish it this week!

I started promoting other people's levels when I published our first level, Centralia. It was on cool levels for five minutes and then fell off the face of the earth. We worked so hard on it and I was so sad by this fact. I started promoting the heck out of it, and in the process of doing that, I found a bunch of levels with like 3 plays that were out of this world. So I started spreading the word as much as I possibly could. I do work at an Ad Agency, so maybe it's in my blood

Anyway, I'll check out your levels, too. I like the sound of "The Banana Horde" lol. And yes, I'll keep posting more levels as I find them as well. ^_^

great thread ranger, i can tell you put a lot of time into the list you made and im sure it will be greatly appreciated. There are many levels out there that go unnoticed its sad..wow i just noticed your first part of the post..so If my levels were upbefore the new rating or search system they are screwed? I know you said search but I figured it may be the same for rating system i really hope not but I expected my ratings to go up after they implemented that and they didn't D: but maybe its not up yet I didn't get a patch after all.2009-01-13 21:37:00

Oh, yes, centralia is getting a lot of plays now, but I"m talking about in the beginning, back in november when we published it. before the search was fixed, the only way to find it was by searching for centralia, and even then you would get levels called "central al's disco explosion"... centralia would be on the second page of search results.

and hamsalad, you are most certainly not screwed. Just keep republishing your level. I do that with the fall of winter, and it will go back on cool levels for a little bit. if enough people like your level, maybe it'll stick! ^_^ so chin up!

Hmm so obviously you recommend i just delete them and republish to try to get lucky on the cool pages?2009-01-13 22:02:00

no. don't delete them. just republish over them. The servers think they're new levels and they get put back on cool levels for a little while. They also get put back in the "new" section of the search... so if people are looking for "new" levels, yours will be there.2009-01-13 22:09:00

Ranger i'm glad you made you made this thread here. Now I can actually respond to your user level thread without lurking gaf (why the hell is it so f'n hard to register there???). I actually found a ton of great user levels that I want to post here. One in particular was an ingenious one. They used kittel's (snowflakecat's) infinite checkpoint and made a checkpoint portal with the paintinator. You fire the paintinator at the location you want to end up and fire another next to you. You go through the first checkpoint "portal" and end up at the destination. I don't remember the exact level name, but its under my hearted levels (psn: nyahbingi). I will make a list as soon as I get home.2009-01-13 23:14:00

Haha, the bolded part is exactly me!

Been a continued visitor to your GAF thread, happy I can contribute/respond now. I hearted you solely based on your own 'hearted levels' list (this was before I played your own levels, don't consider it a back-handed compliment! Just a standard compliment ), it is always full of so much quality that needs to be played!

I try to promote such levels over at my usual Australian gaming fields, but can't match the determination/skill of yourself. I will say, though, that you should definitely play the level Here be Dragons by TheGreatLeftSock, Mr. RangerX. I made a thread about it a little down, largely ignored so far, but I think it will make a fine addition to this list, and should fit into the 1000 plays or less criteria. It's quite challenging (maddeningly so? ) but the gameplay is super, I think you'll find it quite fun.

Okay the level that I was referring to is called portal with portal gun by cykelpumpen. Very innovative stuff he did.2009-01-14 03:02:00

Thanks for the kind comments guys. I give me some energy to continue to help pushing the community and helping creators. I was kinda heart broken around the release of the game because I was so passionate about the creation part and was seeing the game design lacking basic things like a decent interface and search engine. That really was bad.

Anyhow, the why i'm telling you it's levels that will be hard to find is because since they were up before the search engine working proper, they were lost already under an enormous pile of levels in the cool pages. Now you have a decent search engine but those old levels aren't the most played nor the most hearted. They aren't in the cool pages. You can't find them by searching for "newest" because they are old. So the only effective way to find them is by text search. And this is hard. That's why my thread exist.

Don't be shy to propose levels here ok? I'd just ask you to be as clear as possible and the name of the level and it's author (at the very least). This without typos of course so our text searches work.

Right now i'm busy making my new and third level though. But as soon as this is finished or if I want to take a break, there's plenty of levels I want to feature in this thread.

Holy **** man, I just played some awesome levels and I need to recommend the creator. Playing this game as much as I do, it takes a lot for me to be impressed. Anyways his psn name is Qugz and the levels he published are:

- loops lift rides and rockets!

&

- Maxed out

How the hell does this guy not have 50,000 plays on his levels?? Awesome gameplay mechanics. Perfect timing on these contraptions. Must have taken him God knows how long to test it out. I did post a comment on his levels to include an infinite checkpoint, because the levels are tricky at times, but you guys need to check them out. Hell I have to make a thread for him to get the word out.
