About the "Community is bad" topics

Archive: 19 posts

Hello! I know this forum is about anything LBP2 related when it's not about story mode or create mode. This means you can talk about the community too. However, in the last four months, we have been pretty negative. We know how bad the community is, but we created several topics about how bad the community is. And we LBPC members are sick of these topics. We were negative in the past, but we want to move onto the positive and neutral subjects on LBP2.

A long time ago, we had a topic on how bad the Mm Picks are doing. It was continuous and people are getting out of control. Then we talked about Update 1.12 and how upset we are from the boo removal. Then we talked about how the cool pages are doing after the boo removal and the people who are abusing lbp. There even is a topic titled "Things that make you mad", and most of these posts were on the community. We kept being negative and we continued to talk about the same thing over and over again.

Please do not create anymore topics on how bad the community is. We already get it, and it's becoming spammy. I don't make the rules here, but I think it should be in the rules. If you want to find some good solutions, just ignore the bad parts of the community. If you don't want trolls posting hate comments, ignore them and disable your comments. If you don't any naughty kids in your pod or party, you can turn on auto-reject to block anyone who isn't your friend. If you don't like the cool pages, stick with the LBPC community spotlight. It's the best solution to dealing with the bad community. Creating more negative topics or protest levels will make things worse. So I hope you can stay positive.

Well said,

personally I think it would be great if this (or a version of this) was stickied by a mod so that people can easily see that it has been discussed before and therefore deterring repeat topics.

Ok....erm...well, I'm just gonna leave this here.

Anyway, enough about that. Let us now promote a harmonious community by joining together in song...

And if anyone disagrees, get 'em up against the wall! :kz:

I see your point, and I agree with you. Somewhat. I know that the threads you speak of are pointless, do nothing, and simply clog the forum, but that does not mean we should stop threads of the sort altogether. To be honest, LBP2 is in the worst state it has ever been in. Of course, Latin is back on the cool pages, H4H, emos, etc., but also the game is simply unstable. There are dozens of bugs in this game, and while some are useful, many are harmful. There are bugs that seriously hinder you and get in your way; in fact, I think that more experienced game companies would be quite disgusted with the sheer amount of hurtful bugs. Crashing and being separated from other players is a nearly regular occurrence during online mode. Create mode is even worse. I swear, for every ten days of work I do, one day is compensating for bugs and shortcomings (inaccuracy of movers and sackbot acting, play mode on moon and on earth being completely different, etc.). If any level I make is remotely detailed and has voice acting, at least half of the voices don't play at all. I usually have to emit the broken voices as an object just to have them work (guess how long it took me to figure that out). One time, when I was working on SackDroid - Part 1, not even emitting the voices got them to work. You know what I had to do? Publish that segment of SackDroid on my earth, then quickly delete it! Yeah, if your magic mouths aren't working, publish your level! You can just imagine the feeling of achievement figuring that out gave me. It also helped that I was at my wit's end and this was a random last ditch effort I didn't think would work. And you know what? I look forward to dealing with these bugs as I create. I look forward for none of my suggestions being listened to; for the LBP2 suggestions page being just a place for people to listen to their own voices, and for the only patches to be for DLC and maybe a small bug fix here or there. I'm looking forward for a completely abandoned LBP2.

I don't think I've been so sarcastic in my entire life.

What I'm saying is, LBP2 isn't in great shape. The attitude in this thread is "There's nothing that can be done, so whining is pointless." Yes, it is pointless. But that doesn't mean we should be happy Mm abandoning LBP2. People say, "We should be grateful to Mm, they made this game." You know who ALSO made this game? Us, the community. LBP2 as a whole is equal parts Mm and the community. Without either, LBP2 would die instantly. Yeah, Mm made create mode, but if there was nobody to create this game wouldn't last a week. With us, it's lasted about 4 years, and it's still going. So in abandoning LBP2, I fell that Mm is not contributing their equal part. I do realize that they have other things to do and other games to make, but to just leave LBP2 like this is disrespectful to us. LBP2 has become almost a way of life for some people. My life would be quite different without LBP2, and I'm sure it would be for a lot of other people. Indeed, for some, it has the addictive power of World of Warcraft.

So, yeah. I'm not trying to be rude here, but to stay smiling in the face of this would be almost blind.

^ not to mention all the DLC we continue to buy. We are not one time consumers but long term customers who expect satisfaction for our money and we reserve the right to grumble when we are not happy with the product. Negativity is not always a negative thing. Often it brings about positive change because somebody stood up and said "wait a minute....this isn't right".

Now I don't actually agree with the people who advocate getting rid of cool pages, the copy function, etc., but neither do I agree that those people should be denied the right to express their views about it. Of course when people resort to personal attacks it should not be tolerated, but I rarely see that happening here at LBPC. I do see threads become heated when opinions conflict, but that is the nature of debate and it should be encouraged, not supressed.

The community, with all the flaws, dramas and such is the best thing there is about LBP, because it can be amazingly generous, selfless and nice when you least expect it.
The Community is just what we want it to be, what we do want to shape.
MM made a great game, the Community made it IMMORTAL.

Yeah, I see your point. I agree that we never had the community get this bad. One of my suggestions is to moderate all Mortal Kombat levels, bomb survivals, and shark survivals. It's not because they have some inappropriate content, but it's because they were repeatedly copied and they are bad for the cool pages. Somebody told me that I can't do that because it's interferring with childrens' rights. Do I even care? No. I understand that kids love Latin_Player's levels, but they are bad for the cool pages and they aren't even levels (or at least not real levels). There are some people that support keeping Latin_Player_10 on the cool pages because kids love the copied levels, and there are others who support pulling Latin_Player_10's levels off the cool pages because it created so much spam of levels that are considered fake. It sounds like there's a comparison between politics and the cool pages.

It's okay to talk about how bad the community of LBP is, but we don't need to create multiple threads on it. Bumping old threads that talks about how bad the community is isn't a good idea either. And we talked about it a lot in the past four months. The subject got old and boring very fast, and people wouldn't want to be around those who are negative all the time.

Cool Pages, tee hee.
I really think the best way to be noticed is to join the forums and make an amazing level - it's not certain, but it's better than just making a level and hoping that it gets on the Cool Pages. I used to get pretty passionate about the Cool Pages. I thought that the constant spam on the cool pages kept creators who made great levels down. Turns out, getting on the cool pages isn't so great. You get a bunch or hate for no reason by people who don't think about what they're typing, and the most common review is "lol", "awesome", or "g*y". Sure, it gets you noticed - by mostly noobs. Constructive criticism? HA! One of my levels had tons or reviews (as it got nearly 10'000 plays) and not a single one had constructive criticism, unless 'this level stinks like a monkey's butt, just like u' (that was an actual review of one of my movies) is constructive criticism. So, pretty much, the cool pages gets you noticed by a bunch of noobs.

But the forums, however, are great (upvotes to the left). It's all the good of the community, minus the bad. Yes, there times where it's not so pretty, but they are very few and far between. It's like being on the cool pages, but without the thousands of plays, hearts, and yays. Instead, you get a bunch of LBP lovers, rating your level for what it is and not because you used pink and they hate pink because it's g*y or because you wouldn't heart them back or you're not in their clan or whatever. There's less hearts, but you know those hearts are because your level was awesome and not because some guy hoped you would heart them back. There's less plays, but you know that a much higher percentage of people actually completed your level and took it in, and didn't just leave at the first part because it was 'too hard' or they 'didn't know what to do'. There's less reviews, but the reviews are longer, more trustworthy, and actually tell you what you could improve on in the level instead of 'dis sucks'.
So yeah. Cool pages will get you tons of plays, hearts, and reviews, but deep inside you know that you only got there by sheer luck and that it was mostly noobs who rated, played, and reviewed. Forum-wise, you know that even though the numbers were lower, at least they were all, as Ostler said, l33t.

So, quality over quantity. A phrase which could also be used to criticize the current Mm pic-*gets punched in the face*.

What does "upvotes to the left" mean? And you are right that the cool pages are now only bad levels. Kids will mindlessly play these levels and bash on people who hate Latin_Player_10's levels. I wanted people to stop posting hate comments on Latin_Player_10's profile, but I do not want these copied levels on the cool pages. This is why Mortal Kombat levels, bomb survivals, and shark survivals should be moderated for being copied. I don't care about the kids' reaction to the moderation of these levels. In older generations, kids were more well-behaved. If the community took place back in 2002, the kids at that time would hate the copied levels and like levels with better quality. They would also not wear the emo costumes or the ugly girl costumes. They would criticize people for swearing too. In 1992, it would be like 2002, but bigger. Same for 1982 and before. But now, kids are more immature than ever, and they like non-levels like bomb survivals. No matter what, we must put the end to these levels.

A month ago I would have agreed with you. However I recently posted a showcase thread here at lbpc to let lbpc folk know that I had published a new level and the response was like tumbleweed rolling through a ghost town. Strangely though, my level did well on cool pages and although I got some of the usual juvenile and inarticulate comments which you would expect (this sux u fgt, etc), I was surprised to find that the majority of comments were positive, and many of them quite humourous. Bottom line...a great response from the cool pages community, almost zero response from lbpcentral.

Now I've always said I don't care about getting a huge playcount on my levels, but lbpcentral is my "home away from home" on the net and a little feedback from familiar faces here at central means much more to me than a billion comments from the wider community, but I found the response I got here very disappointing. So as I said....a month ago I would have agreed with you...now, not so much

What does "upvotes to the left" mean? And you are right that the cool pages are now only bad levels. Kids will mindlessly play these levels and bash on people who hate Latin_Player_10's levels. Apple you need to take a step back and realise this game is not all about you and what you want. The way you seek to impose your will upon the community is actually quite worrying. God forbid you should ever hold a position of administrative power in your life. You might not like emo costumes, mortal kombat levels, bomb survivals, etc., but thousands of other players do and neither you nor anyone else has the right to take away something they enjoy. Can you not see the impression you're giving to others, stamping your feet and shouting "I don't like cake, so nobody is ever allowed to eat cake again!"? There are many people who already think lbpcentral breeds pretentious, elitist snobs, and attitudes like yours don't help to dispel that view. I hate to say it but your mentality very closely mirrors that of Adolf Hitler, who had a habit of banning any music, art and literature which he did not personally like. Seriously dude...

I don't like sprouts, but you don't see me demanding that all supermarkets must take them off the shelves, do you?

(Edit: Not to mention the fact that your last post totally contradicts the sentiment you conveyed in your initial post)

If you don't like the cool pages, stick with the LBPC community spotlight. It's the best solution to dealing with the bad community.

Hm. About this topic I usually just tell myself and others to ignore the community that you don't like. Pay attention to the community on the forums. It really makes the game a lot better if this topic really bothers you.2012-08-10 04:35:00

lP10 20 and what eve else he is will never stop copying he will never leave.Iv never had the chance to be on the cool pages i know some say its not the best place to be i'd just like to be on there once just to say i was there haha that will be the day.

Oh my... I can't believe what kind of hypocrite I am. I wanted people to stop talking about these kind of topics, but then I go off track and get negative. But yes. The cool pages should be clean from copied levels and there should be no more threads on how bad the community is. We want to avoid spammy posts.

And Ungreth, I'm not trying to ban the levels I hate because I don't like them. I'm trying to get them deleted because they are spammy levels. I said that because they were copied a lot, or they were... oh wait. I don't want all of Mortal Kombat levels and bomb survivals gone. I just want all of Latin_Player's levels gone. He can't get all of the public attention. And I've been a hypocrite to agree with Kalawishis. So yes, just ignore the bad levels and stick with the community spotlight. By the way, comparing people to that dictator you metioned is against the law in where I live. It's also rude and offensive.

Apple just stop. at first the idea of your topic here seemed fine to me because i too am sick of all the complaining topics on this forum. all the daily anger in the community really ruins the fun of LBP for me and many others i am sure too. but now you are somehow just turning this in to a complain about cool pages topic. you don't like copied levels, we get it already ok?. you are already ruining your own topic by going on about how you think things would be better if things were changed to how you want. you are making your self look worse with every post you add here. and frankly everytime i see you "and a handful of other people on this forum" I just want to avoid the topic all together anymore. *mew2012-08-10 05:08:00

I wished I never gone that way. It's all Kalawishis fault for actually turning this topic into a negative thread. He's the one who started it.
