Community Spotlight Episode 5

Welcome to our fifth Community Spotlight! For those of you who don't know, Community Spotlight is a way for us to show off, or "Spotlight", our favorite levels made by you! Our Spotlight Crew scours the Level Showcase (http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=40) for awesome levels, and they neatly organize them in a list format to help you find and play them on your own. Each level has comments from each Crew member that selected that level, so you guys can get a good idea of how many Crew members enjoyed it! If media is available, it will be provided in the listing.

Level Title - Forum Username/PSN Username - Original Thread
Metal Slug Solid -- super 16 bit shooter madness - NinjaMicWZ/NinjaMicWZ - Thread (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=6571)
Description:
I give you a hardcore tribute to the classic platforming shooters of old. In the vein of Metal Slug, Contra, and Gunstar Heroes where you are simply a man on a mission.

I offer you -

- FOUR over-the-top boss battles: a helicopter bomber on a rope bridge, a radioactive flying piranha, an advanced cybernetic AI cyborg, and a souped up military transporter
- FULL paintinator functionality
- THE most hardcore tank ever seen in LBP... the Neo Metal Slug equipped with a fully functional gatling gun that fires paint tipped shells
- and don't forget to shoot out the LIGHTS... you are a mercenary after all - NinjaMicWZOur Thoughts:
This is an amazing homage to the great, old-school shooters of yesterday. The moment the level starts and you hear the chopper hovering in the skies, the spotlight searching for you and the bombs bombaridng your cover, you know your in for something special. The centerpiece of this level is a expertly designed and destructive tank-like beast that is the single most impressive vehicle I have seen in LBP. The level has the best integration of the new Metal Gear Pack I have seen thus far. High quality stuff from beginning to end - OCK

This level is drop-dead gorgeous. If you've ever played Metal Slug or even seen it, then right when you start the level you'll see the similarity. The paintinator is integrated beautifully into this level(dare I say better than any other level I've played yet?), and the battle at the end introduces a totally new idea and does so wonderfully. Highly recommended. - BassDeluxeA Knights's Tale (Part2A) - Neverynnal/Neverynnal - Thread (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=6634)
Description:
A Knight's Tale: Ranaku's Awakening is a continuation on the evil side of my series of Knight's Tale levels. The level is a medieval story-based tale about a dark knight's quest to awaken the demon-god Ranaku. You must traverse a temple of sorts and open the 4 chests laid throughout the level in order to summon the dark lord. There are puzzles, some tricky platforming and a "guardian" boss near the end of the level. Secrets are laid throughout, and the prizes that can be attained are, more than likely, desirable, rather than some boring enemy that you'll never use. I took a lot of pride in making this level as visually pleasing as possible, and I don't think you'll be disappointed after your finished.

I've put all my knowledge of the create mode tools to work in this level, and have worked diligently over the past 3 weeks, putting in over 70 hours (at least) of work into the level. I would really appreciate anyone willing to give the level a shot, and perhaps checking out the prequel before hand (for a better understanding of the saga).

- NeverynnalOur Thoughts:
It is extremely rare that I play a level and find something that makes me say "I wish I had come up with that". This level is drop dead gorgeous from start to finish but the main attraction for me is a wonderfully crafted book and altar that serve as a story-telling device, pure genius. Beautiful work from a creator who has been Spotlighted before and will only get better with time. This level is a must play that everyone needs to check out - OCK

Another great level from Neverynnal. This level doesn't feature a choice like the last one, but in exchange you get a much better atmosphere and overall better gameplay. This level also has a great story, continuing from the last one. Must play. - BassDeluxeWay of Light - Takelow/Takelow - Thread (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=6195)
Description:
t the start of the level, a living spotlight tell you that you are in a forbidden place and that there is now only one way to reach your pod. A dangerous one for a Sackboy. Then, the spotlight propose you to help you giving you his ?way of light?. The only thing to do is to jump in the hole now?I guess this level is interesting in its spotlight use and could be really fun to play for some players.
It is actually not very length and was designed mainly for 1 player.

I would like to add that when I created and published this level, i didn?t know at all the now well-known ?Illumina Garden?. I played it now, and found it great. But I think that even if the concept of total darkness is the same, the two levels are really different in their global aspects. - TakelowOur Thoughts:
This is a level that shows you how to create something using light and dark that isn't cliched and like every other level of this type out there. Takelow is a master of using lighting and this level is the centerpiece for that technique. A beautiful, woderful journey that will have you saying "wow!" Takelow continues to impress me and I can hardly wait to see what he comes up with next! - OCK

Takelow is continuing to amaze us with his levels. This one is no exception. He uses everything imaginable for light, from spotlights to spawn points. Probably the best dark level out there. - BassDeluxeMedia (if available):http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=169&pictureid=1389http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/picture.php?albumid=169&pictureid=1393False Idols I: Time Is of the Essence - NinjaMicWZ/NinjaMicWZ - Thread (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=5813)
Description:
This is a pretty beautiful level IMO, and I've changed and improved on it over and over since it was first published. It features fully functional hourglasses, an epic boss battle with Janus: the Roman God of alpha and omega, methodical and precise platforming, and truly poetic narration/dialogue courtesy of myself.

The story is one of escaping mortality and becoming a God, and discovering the truth about yourself as well as all that which exists on the road to omnipotence.

There are secrets to be found, and anyone who can finish this level without dying will receive a custom designed trophy that contains the true power of Janus. It's definitely nicer looking than the obligatory bird-shaped bronze/gold/silver/platinum trophies that are floating around.

I recommend that you play this solo, as multiple players can make the camera drag difficult and the complexity of the mechanics doesn't fair too well depending on the connection speeds involved and may cause your frames per second to crawl. - NinjaMicWZOur Thoughts:
One of the most beautiful levels I have played in LBP, period! The lighting, textures, custom content and everything else are truly magnificent. The hourglasses are stunning to look at but also play a major role in the design and platforming that is done in the level. This is a great accomplishmen that sets an example of how things in a level can look pretty but also be functional. This level is a brilliant piece of work and the first chapter in what is sure to be an epic series - OCK

Seriously, congrats to everyone here that has been highlighted for this spotlight. I wish i could be up there, but i would not deserve it. I have way to far to go in leaning how to create a good level flow, creative and origional challenges, and detailing/lighting (thats the big drag for me) and all of that jazz, the sad thing is though, that that is one of the only trophies i need left to get (Create) *sigh* oh well, i will learn somehow, i am more of a concepts guy myself. I got it *rushes off to go start thinking about tutorial levels*

Cheers!

Thanks for choosing my level!

I have still less than 60 plays and I was a bit discouraged. But this really gives me a boost to continue working on Part.2 and make it better than the first.

Now, I will go try some of these levels and do some reviews!
Congratulations to the other creators in this page!
