Sack it to Me: LittleBigProgressive Create Contest Begins Tomorrow

Archive: 26 posts

I wasn't sure whether to put this in the contest's place or here but anyway:

Last year we released a special LittleBigPrius level which formed the basis for a popular creation contest. The level was very well-received and has been played more than 300,000 times to date! The winning contest entry, Prius_Eco Adventure, became an Mm Pick and has been played over 88,000 times — pretty cool, right?

http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7140/7706064034_96e9ed1e59_n.jpg

Now we’re back again with another custom level and contest, courtesy of our friends at Progressive Insurance. You might have downloaded the free Flo mod, kart, and track content for ModNation Racers, but now everyone’s favorite raven-haired, red lipstick and apron wearing spokeswoman is coming to LittleBigPlanet. It seems that those two salesmen from “A. Nother Insurance Company” have attempted to steal Flo’s bundler tool, with unexpected results!

This level is the focal point of a “Create Your Own Level” contest, which officially begins tomorrow. Play our “LittleBigProgressive” level to collect prize bubble items, and use them to create your own Progressive-inspired level. When you publish your level to the world, be sure to name it “Pro [Your level name here…]” so that it will be easy for everyone to find.

Make sure you get your level built and published prior to the conclusion of the contest at midnight on Tuesday, September 4th. That’s when our judges will take a closer look at the 10 most popular levels, as determined by the LittleBigPlanet community. We’ll judge these levels based upon originality, quality/polish, Progressive brand awareness, and use of the items obtained from our “LittleBigProgressive” level. From these finalists, we’ll pick a Grand Prize winner who will receive a PlayStation 3, a PlayStation Vita with a 4GB memory card, and copies of LittleBigPlanet Karting and LittleBigPlanet PS Vita, as well as both the PS3 and PS Vita versions of PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale as soon as the game is released. Our four Second Place winners will receive a PS Vita with a 4GB memory card and a copy of LittleBigPlanet PS Vita. That’s a whole lot of gaming goodness right there! The full contest details can be found here (http://us.playstation.com/psn/events/littlebigprogressive).

You can read the rest of it here (http://blog.us.playstation.com/2012/08/06/sack-it-to-me-littlebigprogressive-create-contest-begins-tomorrow/) with information about the Perseid's costume returning, Mm Picks, etc.

Finally all my dreams come true!!! A chance to make a level inspired by an insurance company!?
The green credentials of the Prius just about gave the contest some ethical basis but a contest in which one of the judging criteria is brand awareness of an insurance company?

That sounds strange to me too. I mean, it seems like they want players to advertise their company and eulogise it, spreading the word everywhere. I'm not British and thus I've actually never heard of Progressive Insurrance, but it would've shocked me even more if all of this was about a company I actually know and hear about every day. Come one, there are plenty enough ads on TV.

I've never heard of that company. ever. I live in Wales, UK,is it an american based company? this doesn't sit well with me, I don't want to encourage companies to start trying to get free advertising from the lbp comunity, that's bad and wrong. hopefully if few enough people enter then this will be the last of this brand of competition.2012-08-06 17:25:00

Hmm, I must agree with EnochRoots sentiments towards the lack of a theme for this competition. The Eco-friendly theme for the Prius comp at least gave you something to work with. Insurance? Eh?

I looked into the company - they appear to operate solely in the U.S, so that leaves only a small portion of the playerbase having heard of this company before, for those interested.

Still, I do like that companies consider LBP a place to advertise their stuff. In turn it generates more interest for the game and aids in its lifespan.
I tried to access the webpage with the full competition details, but either all the links are broken or the site is down. Even the relevant Tweets in my Twitter feed link to a non-existant page.

I also agree with EnochRoot and yourself Ostler5000, I might have a crack at this though mearly out of spite and to poke fun at these desperate insurance companies first and foremost for annoying me with unsolicted text messages and second for using lets put it bluntly here a childs game for promotional purposes.

P.s It might be a game aimed at a younger audience but its still good fun

I also agree with ghostrider135 and ostler5000!
By all means get some sponsorship but have it in the form of some subtle background sticker, not such a blatant in your face plug that means the whole contest is geared around it. The prizes are nice but does that necessarily mean selling out on the games integrity to indoctrinate kids mind at such an early age. We have already given away prizes such as PS vita and psps on LBN through selfless donation from individuals rather than this blatant disregard for ethical standards...or maybe I'm sounding like a crazy occupy wall st. protester?I might make a parody using the insura-care stickers from the incredible pack.

It's interesting that the judges will only consider the ten most hearted entries. They could end up with a whole set of Progressive-branded bomb survivals. 2012-08-06 20:13:00

If thats how they're are selecting the finalists it just shows how little regard for or true understanding of LBP the organisers have.

Wow, who’s idea was this?:
“That’s when our judges will take a closer look at the 10 most popular levels, as determined by the LittleBigPlanet community”
seriously? Only going to judge the most popular levels? Deemed so by the community? Congratulations Latinplayer, you win. -_-
I’ve been a member of contest crews and you don’t just take a “closer look” at the popular levels, You judge every single entry. So they’re going to look at the most popular levels from the community? The same community that has made the “cool” pages a garbage heap? Nah, don’t think so.
Here’s what you should do if you truly want the best levels as deemed by the community. Take all the entries and split them up between the 4 main LBP fansites/communities : LBPCentral, LittleBigNetwork, LittleBigLand and Planetarium. The contest crews on those sites then judge the levels they are given to judge and submit their top level. Now you have the 4 top levels and award prizes 1st through 4th place.

if you check the EU PS blog you won't find a mention about this competition, because, as the rules in an hidden link state, it's only available for the 50 States of USA

On a side, proud note.
This is how the competitions are made if you leave them to Sony/MM and we the Community are not involved

Well, I'll enter regardless of what the contest is, merely because it'll be fun- and the prizes are awesome- but I can't say anything good will come out of this based on the reaction I'm seeing so far. Oh, and the judging criteria is crap, but that's just a minor detail, right? Wrong!2012-08-07 12:07:00

After spending at least 45 minutes raging about the horrible rules and judging techniques used for the contest, Grayspence, Valmassoi, Themonkeyblade and I started an entry just for fun. We figure we'll probably end up losing no matter what, but we may as well try to get a good level out of this. Besides, sometimes working with restrictions is fun! (The restriction being that we have to use the... Mildly-detailed objects given out in the promo level)

When you get the thought of trying to win out of your head, contests are a ton of fun! We spent about 2 hours trying to come up with a style for the level and we're gonna redo it today, most likely. Our story revolves around aliens I think... We may have changed it but I forget. I didn't sleep at all last night. Here's what we made though:

http://i0.lbp.me/img/ft/6108f17c1e02fb23886ad0e46977a1910a878275.jpg

We don't really plan on winning considering how the winners are chosen, and we're not really "popular" guys, but if we happen to somehow win the contest, we all agreed that rather than splitting the prizes, we'd rather just donate them to a few LBP Fansites or something like that.

And since we're not really aiming for the victory, we figured there's not really much of a point to hiding our entry until the last minute it can be published. May as well just let people see what we've got, if they wanna. Doesn't sound like this contest is particularly popular, among many of you guys though.

By the way, I've seen a lot of people suggesting that someone like Latin_Player or another heart-for-hearter will win, although I'm pretty sure that "abusing the rating system" (which is hearts) is against the EULA and although it isn't enforced too often, I believe that a contest with $1000 worth of prizes would mean that they would need to take a closer look at that. Or at least I'd hope so. Judging by the general rules of this contest, whoever threw it together has never played LBP before in their life.

That's not to say that us forum-folk shouldn't all stick together and support each other.

It always amazes me how people like you guys build levels like that. It isn't that I can't build levels, I feel like I just don't have the right ideas for visuals, challenges and whatnot. Rant aside, good luck, it's looking great so far!2012-08-07 15:05:00

Just a suggestion, If you guys do win why don't you create your own competition, a ''much better'' one than this insurance one.

Oh come on, this company already made a commercial with Sonic the Hedgehog, now they want more advertisement with LBP? Are they going to change their slogan to "Gamer Insurance" and start selling insurance DLC for racing games and GTA?

If you're thinking of entering the competition, you should read this article and know what kind of company you are keeping if you buddy up with Progressive...

It's disgusting that these vultures are circling over children's heads by targeting LBP with their self-promotion campaign

This is my entry. Yes, it is poo-themed, but I think it suits the contest well. And heck, here's another pic featuring King Hint Baux, the Prophecy Sponge and a cat I think.

I am also going to mention how Progressive infiltrated some church. I will also mention other controversies surrounding them, so in a way this is anti-advertising. Unfortunately, it will only be published for around a week before it gets moderated.

I might consider submitting a joke level as well, seeing as Progressive is pretty much the spawn of Satan himself. o3o2012-08-18 23:25:00

As per official suggestion via Twitter, I've started a topic at GetSatisfaction.com for the community to give feedback on the subject corporate sponsored contests. I encourage anyone with an opinion about this to participate. Please articulate your opinion without being offensive toward others - it makes your point more credible when you're respectful of other people's different views.
https://getsatisfaction.com/littlebigplanet/topics/officially_sponsored_contests_and_the_community?rf m=1
If you haven't already done so you'll need to create an account, but that's very easy and quick.
