growing plant path such as eve's asylum

Archive: 4 posts

Hello everyone, punk_jr here from little big planet. I am working on a few different levels at the moment and in one of them i would very much like to replicate the area of eve's asylum where you wet the lil platform and the platform moves around only to leave more platforms to walk onto to contine the level lol. I've been tring to figure it out with logic, but sadly I am not the best with logic wah!!! Please if you know how to do this or please let me know. Thanks to all!!! 2012-08-05 09:22:00

Easy.
First, you need a trigger. On eve's asylum, it's a projectile sensor or an impact sensor, that reacts to water.
The sensor should be hooked to a timer, and the timer should be hooked to a sequencer. The input action of the sequencer should be set to "position". Now as long as the sensor is activated, the timer fills up a little and the bar on the sequencer moves to the right.

Now make a small platform, and put an antigravity tweaker on it, set to 100% dampening. Save it.

On the sequencer, put an emitter near the beginning which emits the platform you just made on the position you want. Set the input action of the emitter to "emit once". Now to the right of the first emitter, you should make more emitters on the sequencer, and have them emit platforms on the positions where you want them.

Now, when the timer fills up, the bar on the sequencer moves to the right, activating the emitters one after another, creating a path for you to walk on!

Bleh!! No no no no.

You're half right. Instead of multiple emitters, which will quickly eat up your thermo for such a small and simple contraption, use a trail of Tags and Follower Movers. Transport the single emitter from one end to the other, emitting as you go.
My method is harder to set up, but once you've got it working, it is easier and more thermo efficient to re-use at other parts of the level.

For your breadcrumbs, place a Microchip. Inside this Microchip, place a Tag Sensor, set to require a Tag labelled 'VineSegment' (You can pick your own label, obviously.)
Invert the Tag Sensor, and wire it into a Tag labelled 'VineBreadcrumb'.

On your Vine Segments, place a tag in the centre, labelled 'VineSegment'.
Plus whatever other logic you'll need. Such as an Anti-Grav tweaker to keep it in place.

Now place a small square of Hologram or Sticker Panel, and make it invisble. On this, place a Microchip.
Inside the Microchip, place whatever logic acts as your Trigger. (Previously it was mentioned that Eves Asylum uses an Impact Sensor)
Whatever your trigger is, must be wired into a Follower Mover, set to go to the nearest 'VineBreadcrumb' Tag.
Place a Tag Sensor with a tiny radius in the Microchip. Have this Tag Sensor look for the label 'VineBreadcrumb'.
Wire the Tag Sensor into a Timer, set to count up to 0.2 or 0.3. (This is for extra reliability in ensuring your segments are emitted bang on the Tag.) Then wire the Timers output into it's own Reset input and into your Emitter. Make sure your Emitter is set to 'One Shot' not 'On/Off'
Lastly, if your segments are not just perfect circles, place a Rocket Rotator. This will rotate the emitter and thus the vine segments so that they appear to curve around like a worm.

Now you have all 3 components you'll need. Stick the vine segment in the Emitter. And place the Breadcrumb Microchips carefully along the route you want to create. Microchip placement is crucial. It may be beneficial to place your breadcrumbs on separate bits of Hologram or Sticker Panel so you can copy and move them around easier.
The starting position of the Segment Emitting Microchip isn't very important, just no long as it's closest to the start of the trail, not the middle or other end.
