Create Mode Safety Features

So you're in Create Mode and have been there for about four hours. You've created this wonderful masterpiece, using every ounce of effort you've got. Hours of slaving away, but it was all worth it. You couldn't be more proud of what you've created. You go to press X to select something, and - "OMGWTFBBQ!!!" It's all gone because someone invited you to join them and you accidently accepted! This has happened to me two times now, and it's made me so discouraged that to this day, I still have yet to publish a single level - not even to get a trophy. I would really like a status option where you can change your status to either "Let's play!" or "I'm busy!". Setting your status to "I'm busy!" will block all invites and requests to join from everyone, both on and off your friend list. The default would be "Let's play!" which is just like how things are now. With this feature, I think that this would save us all from all of those accidental invite acceptances while in Create Mode. Along with this, when you are invited to join someone else while your status is "Let's play!", if you're in Create Mode and you accept, whether it be accidental or intentional, it should ask if you would like to save. And this wouldn't apply to only just leaving on an invite, but leaving by exiting to your Pod as well, like when closing a document on a computer when you haven't saved yet. This would back you up in case you forgot to switch your status to "I'm busy!". One last feature I would love to see implemented into the game is auto-saving. When you open up the menu by pressing 'Start' while in Create Mode, there would be an option to turn Auto-Save on or off. When it is on, levels will save every five minutes. What this does is helps to stop from losing a ton of work, in case your PlayStation 3 freezes and you're forced into a hard reset, or if you are just known for turning it off without exiting the game. | 2009-01-09 23:51:00 Author: Unknown User |
Couldn't of agreed more, easy to implement. | 2009-01-10 00:07:00 Author: Whalio Cappuccino Posts: 5250 |

Save more often. I save before and after I do something somewhat big. But this is still a good idea. | 2009-01-10 00:25:00 Author: Trap_T Posts: 431 |
I totally agree. I have had this happen too. I am still really new to this game...is there a way to make a copy of your level to another part of the moon in case you want to try or change something radical to your design and if it doesn't work it is a lot easier to go to a saved copy vs. rewinding for an hour...is that possible? | 2009-01-10 00:55:00 Author: Mattrick Posts: 214 |

That it very possible. When you press start in your level, there is a "Save As" option, which works just like it does on a computer. It will show the 'My Moon' and you can then select a different spot to save the level to, while still retaining the original. | 2009-01-10 01:18:00 Author: Unknown User |
These are good ideas, but I've never experienced any of these problems! Perhaps it's because my PS3 is a god and I have no friends.. | 2009-01-10 01:20:00 Author: qrtda235566 Posts: 3664 |
It's impossible for me to disagree with this idea, I get sick of saving every five minutes to be on the save side. If we had this option, then I wouldn't have to get really annoyed with everyone who invites me. Another idea, following on from this would be that when people have published a level or got a score on a level, that we could disable this. When it suddenly pops up and I'm in mid-air, about to grab some sponge I get really mad as I drop to my death. Status would be absolutely amazing to have, great idea. | 2009-01-10 12:38:00 Author: Bear Posts: 2079 |
Great idea! | 2009-01-10 12:41:00 Author: Unknown User |
A very nice and well thought out idea, Clank. I am surprised that the game is either not auto-saving every five minutes or else is saving when you join a game... On the other side of the coin, it is possible to see people through your friends list, either in LBP or XMB, and what they are up to. If it says "Empty level" or something like that they are likely creating and it might not be the best time to invite them. You can always send them a message through XMB as well, that way is a lot less invasive than the invite system of LBP. | 2009-01-10 14:08:00 Author: Elbee23 Posts: 1280 |

And yet they disregard that and continue to send an invitation anyways. | 2009-01-10 18:48:00 Author: Unknown User |
Guilty as charged, i am one of instances and possibly the other:blush: my bad | 2009-01-10 18:51:00 Author: Sonic5411 Posts: 712 |
I like this idea. It's a shame that the people at MM didn't think to implement such a feature in the first place. | 2009-01-12 07:54:00 Author: DarkDedede Posts: 672 |
The only thing to do for now as a sub is put your psn to unavailable and say don't send me a invite in the comment..? | 2009-01-12 09:43:00 Author: Thee-Flash Posts: 3154 |
I could not agree with this more! I don't see how it prompts you to save when you quit to the pod but not when you join a game, I hate the way the game's UI works sometimes... I'm always accidently joining when I don't want to or cancelling when I do. I'd like to expand on this idea a little: What about a section in the start menu or popit for current invites? If anyone here's played GTA IV, then you know you get a little prompt for a new invite, then you go to the multiplayer menu to accept. This way is completely transparent and doesn't obstruct the player. Thee-Flash , unfortunately that doesn't guarantee people won't invite you and you wouldn't subsequently accidently accept. Especially when your list is full of 7-13 year olds who keep bothering you nonstop... I guess that's what I get for making levels about cute bunnies. | 2009-01-12 17:46:00 Author: Foofles Posts: 2278 |

Or better yet, how about the LBP Messages? I've always found the inviting set up to be odd. I like being able to invite someone, and do something else while waiting (this applies only when inviting someone from the InfoMoon). And the same goes for joining someone. Rather than have a request to join someone time out , it will be waiting in that player's LBP Messages to either accept or deny. And at any point, the sender can cancel their request. Now, let's say the player you've requested to join isn't currently there. So, how will they know that you've requested to join them? There could be a little icon in the top right corner with a number next to it to represent notifications, similar to the notifications here on LBPC. Another problem that one could think of is that a player who has been sent a request for someone to join them could accept it later, and possibly screw up that player when they're in a level. Well, when the player accepts, it will be turned into another LBP Message that is sent to the player, notifying them that their original request has been accepted, and so on. Hope that made sense. :/ | 2009-01-13 01:20:00 Author: Unknown User |
Sounds like a good idea, and in any case much better than the present system. | 2009-01-13 01:49:00 Author: Foofles Posts: 2278 |

Could not agree more But there is one more application this could be used for Back when i was going for the treetop escape highscore i would have people asking me to play, now this frezzes up EVERYTHING that you can do with your character, you drop if you are grabbing something, you can no longer move while in the air and you sack boy is helpless, and you can not move, I dad countless times because of them trying to invite me to a game or wanting to join me. Cheers! | 2009-01-17 19:22:00 Author: RAINFIRE Posts: 1101 |
I definitely agree with the concept of a message service, especially one that does not interrupt game play. Just the other day I spent maybe 2 hours on create mode and lost it accepting an invite and forgetting to save my work. Admittedly, I had to shift the cursor over to accept, but the fact that it did not save by default just seems bad to me. Of course, you might have just made a mistake, but it's easier to uncreate than it is to create. I've also died a few times from random information pop ups. It's not just invites that make you freeze, it's high score announcements and levels being published (or republished) that will do it as well. It would be great to have an in-game message system that did not interrupt game play but left an icon on screen which you can then check by pressing the start button. | 2009-01-17 23:06:00 Author: Elbee23 Posts: 1280 |
I press start and click "Save Level" every few minutes. | 2009-01-19 03:50:00 Author: Tyler Posts: 663 |
My trick for that (probably wont help much, may have been answered allready) When im doing somthing serious in create mode, i keep the cable unplugged from the ps3... Im never online when I create. but thats really more of a byproduct of only having one internet source in my room, so I switch it between the Ps3 and my computer... Usually when Im creating, I use the internet for references, ideas, tips, and anything else that might come in handy... but yea probably wont help your situtation much, but just thought Id throw that out there, cant get invited if your not online. | 2009-01-24 08:50:00 Author: Madafaku Posts: 738 |

You can simply "sign out" of the PSN network, this will do the same thing as being offline without moving cables. | 2009-01-25 01:14:00 Author: Elbee23 Posts: 1280 |

Great idea indeed! I've only had this happen to me once and it was certainly frustrating. I work from the animation industry and one of the things we all learn fairly early on (at most studios anyways), is to make sure we save often. Luckily, this is so engrained in my head at work that it carries over to my home life when ever I'm working on something on my computer or anything in LBP. Aside from unplugging your connection or signing out, do what we were taught at one of the first studios I ever worked at after losing work several times due to unforseen blackouts during storms. Get a piece of full sized paper and stick it on the wall or somewhere highly visible right above or beside your moniter or tv screen. Then in big black BOLD letters write the words "SAVE OFTEN" and add multiple exclamation points at the end just to drive the point home to yourself. Seriously..... it works! | 2009-01-27 03:37:00 Author: Rustbukkit Posts: 1737 |
