Is there a way to do this with any lights? I could have swore I saw it done in a level. The light sources weren't there, but the light emitted from them was, is there a way to do this?

You should have a light (not sure what it's called) that can be placed on materials like a decoration, not an object. At the bottom of its tweak options in the visibility setting.

Many have an option to make invisible in play mode.

Hah, I don't think I knew about that, and it seems so obvious! I used the glitch where u turn the light object into gas and then destroy with fall apart, the light effect stays but the physical object is removed (can't move or tweak it once destroyed).

It's just a setting at the bottom of the lights listed above: Visible in play mode or not I should have been more specific; what is the name of the light decoration called? I've looked through my decorations and can't seem to find a light. [edit] Ah OK I found them. The decoration lights are alongside the object lights, which is a touch confusing, but nice to have them all in the same place. The ones I have are called: Lightbox - Corner Lightbox - Curve Lightbox - Straight LED Light Bulb
