Cloud Rock Falls 2 - The Discovery (1P Platformer)

Archive: 11 posts

Howdy Sackfolk! Ive just published the second installment of the Cloud Rock Falls series! Cloud Rock Falls 2 - The Discovery The level however has no music as i dont even want to bother trying to create an atmosphere using the in game music as it will completely backfire and ruin the atmosphere already created using sounds and visuals. I personally find it a heck of alot more fun than Cloud Rock Falls for those who have played it!

Venture further along the trails of Cloud Rock Falls, crossing slippery waterfalls, discovering mystery caves and entrances, surely nothing lives here anymore? ...right?

Overall, it was enjoyable, but I think I ran into a level-breaking bug (more about that later)

- I like that you use the ambience and sound effects instead of music, but I think you still need a few more sounds for creaking trees, platforms, vines, etc. to fill it out more

- After the bridge breaks, there's a little "twitchy piece" that flips around. If you jump sackboy onto it, you can skip a section of the level.

- The graphic style fit the theme perfectly, and you made the three layers of LBP look more 3-d than they really are. I especially liked the paths behind waterfalls, the spider area, and I often couldn't tell if I was in the front, middle, or side layer, which imo is a good thing for immersion.

- A few minor things seemed a bit out of place to me. I would decorate the save points, and the bags with lights on them seemed to not quite fit.

- I got stuck where you hang on and ride the contraption on rails, just after where you start to see spider webs. I rode it for too long (or just on the wrong side?) and got killed by spikes. After respawning, the contraption never reappears so I couldn't proceed.

If possible, I would very much love a play/feedback on my level found in this thread: Frozen in Time: The Celestial Clock Tower (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=72136-Frozen-in-Time-The-Celestial-Clock-Tower-the-afterlife-awaits!) It's taken mean ungodly amount of work and I'm having a hard time getting plays, so even if you don't finish it (it's LONG) any feedback is appreciated =)

Thanks for playing my level! i agree the holograms around the level dont quite fit the theme, maybe make them wooden? or just remove them completely?

After playing again it does sound a little too quiet for an adventurous jungle other than the sound of running water, creaking trees would be great and maybe disguise the checkpoints, ill get right on it!

about the rail contraption thing, ill be sure to move the spikes lower so theres less chance of catching them when you swing about on the ride. Just before you do ride the contraption theres a big red switch next to you, you press that to reset the swinging thing but i suppose i need to make it more obvious. sorry about that! Hope you get to finish it some other time, you werent too far from the end and i feel the end is the best part ha!

ill play your level now! Thanks again!

That must have been my colorblindness haha... red switch on a green background =P

I'll give it another play over the next couple of days, or if you make any changes that you'd like feedback on.

EDIT:
Just played the level again. The partially-disguised save points definitely look better, and it seems I was hearing more bird sounds this time. I'd still add more for the gears and stuff... it seems a bit out of place to hear all the birds but the big gears not creaking or anything.

I got stuck again on the contraption, though. The reset switch made it reappear, but it only goes horizontally and down, and never goes all the way back up to progress through the level. I tried it a few times but each time, the new contraption would only go to where it was supposed to rise, and then stop.

I just got through playing this level (as well as the first part) and I must say that the scenery was quite beautiful. Great visuals and decorations. I had a lot of fun playing this. I didn't find any problems with the level. Thank you for sharing this with the community.

If you are still doing F4F, my level is in my signature.

The pics look great! I took the liberty of not only queuing up this level but also Cloud Rock Falls 1... I prefer to play levels in order to better grasp any story there might be. I'll look into the two levels later tonight or tomorrow. I'll return with my input on your levels as well as info on my levels that you can check out for me if'n you want to. Cheers!

EDIT:
Both Cloud Rock Falls levels are great! I went through the first one and was captivated by the atmosphere of the level... It was fun and easy on the eyes. I did notice one spot near the end where a motor bolt and a regular bolt were visible (I imagine not intentionally). I think I snapped a pic... I'll publish it and attach it here tomorrow.
The second level was even better! The attention to detail was taken to a whole new level from the previous Cloud Rock Falls. It had me wondering at the end though... was the scoreboard heaven?

Oh, and if you're still doing the F4F here's a link to my F4F thread. (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=72941-Metal-Gear-Sackboy-Unraveling-Stitches) Thanks!

Thanks for playing my levels!!! Im glad you like them! i only wish the thermo was longer, i like attention to detail but because of this i sacrifice alot of gameplay but im glad you enjoyed them!

The scoreboard in number 2 wasnt heaven haha good idea though, it was just a game ender to leave you with a kind of cliffhanger like "What is going to happen to you!?" There'll be more to come deffinately!

The bolts in the first werent intentional grrr thankyou for pointing them out! haha

Would love some custom music! thats one thing i crave for the levels now but my music sequencer skills are appauling to say the least!

Ill play your level now Thanks guys!

I haven't played the first Cloudy Rock Falls (and I probably will after I write this), but I really enjoyed playing through this level! Even though the level was clearly built mostly around visuals, the platforming and gameplay was still decently fun. I love the idea of not using music, it actually adds to the mysterious yet relaxing atmosphere.
But, just like basically every other pretty level, it suffers from the usual issues. There's so much stuff going on that it's kind of hard to see my own path. I kinda feel like I died cheaply in some parts because I walked into a pit without realizing it. Honestly though, this is really just sort of a nitpick that I have with all levels like this which over decorate and don't show the path well enough. Still, it's a fun level with an interesting plot (if you can call it that), pretty visuals, and enjoyable, if not a little frustrating, gameplay!

F4F level in my signature.

Thankyou for your feeback Crazymario! Sorry you get frustrated about the little places where you may die cheaply i dont really want to highlight the danger areas too much because i wanted to keep a natural feel but ill see what i can do about it! im glad you like the visuals though ill be sure to leave feedback on your level!!!

Also id like to thank everyone for the spotlighting of my first level Cloud Rock Falls (even though i think the second one is better haha)

Cool level. You did a good job on creating an engrossing and interesting atmosphere visually. However I do think some sort of ambient music could help improve the level. I agree with you that the selection of music given by MM doesn't necessarily fit your level, but I do hoever think that there is plenty of music composed by other players who'd be willing to share it with you, that would fit well in your level. (I've run into the same problem musically with my levels too; I might have a few tracks that would work well for you if you're interested.)

Once again awesome job visually. All of the decorations looked like they were placed carefully and intentionally. I don't have much to say about the gameplay. It's engaging enough and works with the level. The custom bouncepads were a nice touch too, reminds me of lbp1. Anyway, Keep it up man!
