Small bugs (in editor)

Archive: 6 posts

Not major, but since I found em I should post them!

Objects attached to ropes will go beserk the moment you unpause, didnt happen at first, but it seems to happen when you have more and more lights and other small things attached to ropes attached to ceilings etc.
If the object is unlucky enough to be in a tight spot, either the rope or the whole object just dissapears or breaks down.
It also happened when I deleted nearby stuff, or placed new materials in materials attached to the object with rope.

Objects attached to pistons sometimes go beserk.
I had alot of doors in my latest level, and all of a sudden they sometimes started shaking, or popped up for a second and went back to its original state.
happens mostly when you unpause the game,
or when you delete nearby objects or add new materials to nearby objects.

In worst cases the doors and such wouldnt move ingame (probably got stuck), but going back to edit mode, selecting the object with your popit and then saving again solved this every time.

Personally I love this bug,
when you have a music-object that is activated as soon as a sackboy enters the level in edit modus the music will keep playing untill you stop hovering and start hovering again.
But doing almost everything else (building/placing/deleting) would make the music continue..
I actually use this to get in the right mood for editing

(so.. i wish they would let you listen to their music trough a in editor musicplayer )

Emitters:
Sometimes when you are editing emitters the object they emit will permanently stay active, so you have to delete it yourself.
also, instead of deleting the emitted object when you are building, it can accidently become part of your level.
(so watch out )

if a magnet key is attached to a dissolvant, and the dissolvant dissapears.. the magnetkey will stay active.

Imho when you load a level to edit, it should automatically start the level in pause.
Obviously you can pause your level and then save it for next time.
But more than once I found out to late, and had to redo al my switches.
Just because it would be helpfull...

Sometimes when you move an object with your pop-it that is attached to dark matter material with a stiffened rod.. the dark matter starts moving, either in a rotating way, or slowely lowers its height.
especially happens when you select something attached to a piston.. the piston will now use all its force on whatever is attached to the dark matter and the dark matter loses its power untill you de-select the object that was attached to the piston.

Switch-triggered emitters:
Lets say you made a sequence of emitters, each dropping a footbal one second later than the previous one.
You now attach them to a switch.
If you press the switch, the timing can be seriously off if you attached your switchwire to the emitters when the game isnt paused.

so it can be that all of a sudden your emitters all start emitting at the same time.

Another example:
If you attach a switch to an emitter that emits only once every 30 seconds, and you attach the switch just after the emitter emitted its object.
It can take up to 29 seconds before the object is emitted once the switch is activated.

Emitters emitting emitters that emit emitters!

Objects attached to stiffened rods sometimes "shake" and in worse cases "break" when a moving object is going over them.
Even if the stiffened rod is attached to a dark matter material.

Chains sometimes start moving in pause modus,
even when attached to a de-activated switch.
I used two that where attached to a 100% horizontal ceilings, and a 100% horizontal platform.

for some reason, even though both chains had 100% exactly the same settings, one chain would be longer when fully extended (slowely happens, takes about a minute), and when fully raised, one would be shorter.. (again slowely happens.. takes about a minute).
Very anoying.
Happened both in pause/edit and play/edit modus.
And on multiple occasions.

Some of the grabable materials will still show their original edges when on fire.

Fire doesnt emit light? (ive grown used to it, but who knows..it could be a bug )

When low on savespace, tutorials sometimes wont go "completed".. takes up to 5 minutes before you get your prices and exit the tutorial.

When you invite a guest (or someone who hasnt played lbp yet) mr background voice over person is reset and keeps talking to the guest or invited person about all the wonders lbp has.
You probably go on your way, and ignore him.
But when the invited person now actually starts with lbp, chances are he wont get those lovely voice overs.. and might miss out some funny comments and information!

That is about it!

Well....
Until MM gets all that stuff fixed and sorted out... I won't be working on The Oggler's Lair.
It's broken enough as it is anyway.
Sometimes, when some of my dissolve blocks do their job, things suddenly unglue for ABOSLUTELY NO REASON, and everything, EVERYTHING, collapses.

My favorite bug is when things fall apart when create mode is paused.

Has this happened to anyone else?

doh! forgot to mention that one!

*looks at his "four the others" level.
IT will collapse 5 minutes after I enter the level to edit it.
pause, play.. it just crashes.

ahh, so many glitches :O

the ones i've encountered from your list are the shaking objects on pistons, and the fire emitting light, but i just fix that one myself by throwing on a light

...and finally, everyones favourite, level collapsing mechanism, although for me it always happens when i detach a random object from something else, it just suddenly detaches everything the first one was attached to, luckily I usually hit play as often as i can to see if something messes up, and since it was recent i can just rewind to before everything fell apart although the first time it happened i didnt know what happened and i had to glue my whole level back together ><
