I don't know what a clan war is but I hope it is 4 people in Create Mode running projectiles into one another. If it is anything more sinister, I'd recommend staying away from it. LBP needs less drama, not more.2012-07-25 09:47:00

It's something childish and often not fun that could hurt other people without a good reason
Something to avoid, definetely

Hi. LokoLokoCoco Here. I'd agree with the people above me. Although, if you wish to partake I will tell you everything I know about Clan "Wars". Well. first off, there's like 3 types of war as far as I know. Mech war ( In which you have to build a "Robot" of some sorts to battle against the others.). A create war ( In which you show off your fancy gizmo's against the other clans things.) and just a war in a level made by a person, in which you grab things and throw them at other people. . Glad I could help. I know this because Some of my friends are in clans. Glad to help. ~ Loko.2012-07-25 10:03:00

BACKGROUND
Clans arose out of competitive multiplayer in the 1990s where the Internet was newer and things weren't built for long term relationships. You'd "team up" and use branding to create camaraderie and maintain a sense of team spirit over multiple game sessions in an era when there was no other way to do that.

Now, though, and particularly with LBP (which is a social network and more of a cooperative multiplayer game than a competitive one), the concept of clanning may be a little redundant. Plus, since the 1990s game clans have turned more to thuggery and aggressive baiting. I should hold my tongue, though, since the concept of clans obviously goes back much further than the Internet, and I recall in college there were some smart and good folks who adopted the term "clan" to represent their group projects in programming and engineering.

Don't feel bad for "not knowing" what to do, it's not a very well-defined term!

ADVICE:
To "prepare" you might create a separate PSN account that includes the name of your clan before your own name. This kind of branding is common. You will also probably want to make a few stickers that have your clan's colors/brands. Think of it as a gang. In fact, that's literally what a clan is: a gang. Therefore you should also be aware that as a gang, you're engaging in a potentially dangerous activity in terms of the terms of service on PSN. Be aware that your whole clan may get suspended or banned from PSN if a few members misbehave and get Good Griefs; all the more reason to create a separate account for any clan activity. It's a good idea to make sure you clearly understand the behavior of clan members, and if they encourage unreasonable or disrespectful gameplay take some time to decide whether you want to be involved with that, and the consequences.

A good clan will have a common goal that's not at someone else's expense. Therefore, a good clan war won't be about "destroying the other clan" or talking smack in comments or downvoting, but about sportsmanlike rivalry, perhaps by playing the same level between both clans repeatedly to get who can get the highest score. If you know the level or level type (race, survival, platformer) you can also prepare for the war by practicing on that level with another account.

Have fun, and let us know how it goes!

A clan war is where 2 clans go face to face on a remote moon and fight against each other with machines they have built, but I have to agree with one of the answers above it can be childish but I have run a few clans in the past and it has been fun not childish. It all depends because many many clans are noobish and use objects they didn't build, I really hate that. Also I have seen where clan battles are hurtful and the clan that wins brags about and calls the loser a noob, that can be a really hurtful thing to people and it should not be done like that.2012-07-27 11:52:00

Clans in LBP? Hahaha, seriously just avoid this, the core of LBP is supposed to be fun and I don't think MM intended to have "clans" in the game2012-07-29 18:26:00

You my friend need to do your research MM convinced people in LBP to run clans, I think you are getting the clan thing mixed up you are probably thinking that clans are just where people fight and have wars right, well that is not just the case many littlebigplanet clans are a group of people who work together to make levels vehicles etc.2012-07-31 21:21:00

Well yes the majority of the littlebigplanet clans are mostly wars but there are those that are decent for example I run a clan for people who make decent military vehicles I never encourage war talk I just love to make friends, create, share etc

For example of a vehicle I myself am working on.
