The Eye of Ender is a Minecraft novel based on the characters and world of Minecraft, particularly that of the Craftworld Minecraft Server, or simply the LBPC Server. (you can read stuff about the game and the server here (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=17831-Minecraft))
For those who don't know, Minecraft is a sandbox game where the players are able to destroy, modify and build the world around them, both offline and online. The idea of writing a novel appeared when the option to write and publish books was added in the game, and started initially as something to entertain the other players, but became something more ambitious.
Another source of inspiration that I got to mention would be Worlds Apart (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=68924-Worlds-Apart) and everyone that worked on it. With no further ado, to the story!

The Eye of Ender
By GDN001

Dedicated to all people who used to play or still play on this server. And to Memo, of course!

Chapter I
It was just another usual day at Oakleaf village. The people were busy chopping wood and searching the mines for ores, but everyone was happy nonetheless.
However, one particular citizen, namely GDN, was decided to explore the newly found caverns, hoping he would find precious ores, maybe even diamonds or emeralds. But his friends, Vin?cius and Mags, were worried about his idea.
- I’m telling you, no good can come from that place!
- There’s a reason why no one has dared to enter it!
GDN couldn’t care less about his friends’ advices. He was really sure about going in there.
- We might have all the wood and iron that the world offers, but I crave for more! Tomorrow, I’m heading to Dark Stone cave!
Seeing that there was no point in trying to snap him out of it, GDN’s friends just accepted his fate.
- I already don’t have that many friends around here, and now one of them wants to go on a fool’s errand! Well, best of luck…
GDN said goodbye to his friends and went home. He had to be ready for whatever was about to happen.

Chapter II
GDN left his home early. The cave was located deep inside the forest, and he had to arrive there as soon as possible. Even though he was still tired from lack of sleep, his will kept him going forward, until he heard a scream. GDN ran towards the source of the scream.
Growling and roaring could be heard coming from the same direction. Soon, he found the source of the noises. A girl, surrounded by zombies, was trying to hold a last stand with a wooden sword.
- Stand back! Stand back!
One of the zombies jumped on her, but she managed to knock him back, breaking the sword in the process.
- Uh oh…
She tried to back away, but her back was onto the rock, when GDN jumped from his spot, wielding his iron pickaxe, surprising the zombies. They quickly turned towards the new target, letting out a menacing roar. Then the zombies ran towards GDN, who dodged their charge and swung his pickaxe onto their now exposed backs. But he couldn’t take all of the at once, and the monsters started to gain the upper hand of him.
Struggling to avoid becoming mob food, GDN held the pick between him and them, as they approached. But one of them suddenly felt a stone hit his head. The zombies turned back, and saw the girl holding another stone.
- Let him go, you pieces of rotten meat!
Confused on who to attack, GDN used this opportunity to hack and slash the monsters. Relieved over the pile of dead zombies, he didn’t notice the sneaky one behind him, but fortunately, the girl did, and threw her last stone at it, smashing his head.
- Whoa… Thanks.
- Nah, I’m the one who owes you thanks. If you hadn’t come in time… Well, I guess I would be one of them by now.
- What were you doing in the middle of the woods anyway?
- Just going for a walk, I guess…
- Armed with a sword?
- Well, it came in handy, until the piece of crap broke, of course…
- Why don’t you get a better one then?
- Like I could...
- Anyway, I think you shouldn’t wander around by yourself. Want to come with me?
- Maybe… Where are you going?
- Mining. Didn’t you see the pickaxe?
- Oh, yeah, right, of course… Well, I guess I have nothing else to do…
- Alright! Follow me then.
The two began to walk alongside through the forest.
- By the way, what’s your name? Mine’s GDN.
- Zim. Mine is Zim.

Chapter III
The two had finally arrived at the cave. Its entrance was already dark, giving an eerie feeling of the entire place.
- This is the cave?
- Yeah. Isn’t it lovely?
- Terrific…
GDN entered the place, followed by Zim.
He lit up a torch, passed it to Zim and lit up another for himself. The two bounced their lights around the gloomy tunnel. While Zim was clearly checking every corner for monsters, GDN was looking at the walls for ores.
- GDN, I don’t really think we should be here…
GDN frowned, and then kept going ahead at a fast rate for someone who had just entered a new cave. Zim kept her eyes focused on the surroundings, and when she looked ahead, GDN was no longer visible.
- That’s just great…
Meanwhile, GDN kept going even deeper in the cave, fascinated by its formations. A glint caught his eyes, and he knew what it was: Diamonds.
GDN ran towards it, but has he stepped forward, the stone beneath his feet disappeared, and he found himself falling in a deep hole. His body hit water, softening the impact but putting his torch out.
GDN swam towards the first solid rock he could feel, and climbed on top of it. Feeling cold and scared, he looked around. A small light caught the corner of his sight, giving hope. He walked towards it, this time carefully, until he found what seemed like a purple-ish glowing orb thing. As he picked it up, its light grew stronger, revealing the walls around him to be no longer smooth stone, but stone bricks.
He walked forward, using the orb as a light, passing by a series of corridors. But he had a feeling that he wasn’t alone. He looked behind him, and noticed what seemed like two glowing eyes for half a second. GDN kept walking, and the feeling of company returned.
- Zim? Is that you?
GDN turned around quickly and threw the orb at whatever was there, but the area was empty. However, as he was engulfed by darkness, he could almost feel something breathing right behind him. He made a run for the orb and held it with both hands, like it was going to protect him. Humming started to echo through the corridors, making GDN run without caring about directions, as long as it was away from the thing.
The brick walls soon started to turn into ruins, and back to the usual cave stone. But the presence wouldn’t leave him. He kept running with all his strength until he bumped someone. He quickly armed himself with the pickaxe and prepared to him whatever was there to hit.
- STOP FOLLOWING ME!!!
- GDN, wait, it’s me!
Zim’s voice made him calm down and lower his pickaxe. She brushed herself and got up.
- Geez, did you see a ghost or something?
- Sorry about that… Let’s…Let’s just get out of here.
GDN picked up the orb and used it to light the way out.

Chapter IV
GDN got out of the cave as eager as he was to go in. Zim followed him, going slowly as usual.
- So, can you tell me what happened after you lost me?
- I don’t know really… But I found this.
GDN showed Zim the orb.
It seemed to be made of purple glass, and contain a green gas inside. Zim took it from GDN’s hands and looked closely at it.
- You know, this seems familiar, but I can’t remember what it is right now…
He took it back.
- Whatever it is, it appears to be valuable…
The two began their journey back to the village, examining the orb on their entire way.
At the village, GDN’s friends showed a lot of relief from him being back in one piece, as well as interest in the artifact. Mags fiddled with it, while Vin?cius interrogated GDN about it and the cave as well.
- So, you’re telling me that there was a temple or something in that cave?
- Well, I’m not going to say that it was a temple, but it wasn’t something natural. Also, I don’t think that I was alone in there…
- Really?
- I’m having goosebumps just for remembering it… Can we keep the talk on the orb?
Meanwhile, outside GDN’s house, Zim was admiring the night sky, as well as the village itself. Vini and Mags came from inside, making her turn around to greet them. After they left, GDN appeared, holding an iron sword.
- Here. This will protect you better than that wooden baton you had earlier.
- Heh… I sure hope so.
- So, I suppose that you’re leaving now?
- Yeah… Going for a walk again…
They both chuckled, and then Zim looked at the night sky.
- Take care out there.
- Goodbye GDN.
- Goodbye.
Zim walked towards the woods, disappearing between the trees. GDN walked inside and took a last look at the orb, before going to sleep.

Chapter V
GDN woke up in the morning, feeling quite rested. He got out of bed and went to the kitchen to prepare breakfast. But as he passed by where he had left the orb, it wasn’t there anymore. Mags was suddenly woken up when GDN bursted inside his room, furious. His question was direct:
- Where is the orb?
- I suppose you left it at your home?
- It is not there. Someone took it during the night!
- And why do you think it was me?
GDN tried to calm down, after all he knew Mags wouldn’t do that to him, and neither would Vinicius. Nobody else had seen the orb besides them… And someone else.
- I can’t believe that she took it!
- Whoa, calm down GDN! Anybody could have broken into your home, seen the shiny thing and taken it!
- Look around, Mags. Have you ever heard of thievery in this village?
- Well, it could have been someone from outside.
- Exactly. Her.
- I still think that you aren’t giving her a fair chance…
- It doesn’t matter. I’m going after her.
- Yeah, good luck with that. You don’t even know where she’s headed!
- Well, I remember that she was heading east when she left…Judging from the position of the moon in the sky.
- Why did you even bother to remember that?
- The closest place that direction would be Sandstone Village… That’s where I’m heading!
- Wait, wait, wait. If you’re going on a trip… I’m going too!
- But you…
- Enough said. I’m going.
- Fine…
During the rest of the day, GDN and Mags worked on preparing their bags for the long trip it was to Sandstone Village. The village was located across the entire forest, in an oasis in the middle of a desert, so the trip wasn’t going to be easy…

Chapter VI
GDN and Mags were following the road headed to Sandstone Village, having small talk on their way to kill time. After all they were walking for an entire day, and the trip was getting boring.
- I can’t wait to see your face when you find out it wasn’t her…
- Come on, are you friends with me or her?
- I’m just saying…
GDN just told Mags to stay silent for a while, saying that he wasn’t on the mood for talking.
As they walked through the forest, the clouds above started to join themselves, leaving the atmosphere darker than usual.
- I think that is sign of incoming rain…
- No kidding… I can hear the distant thunder…
Mags took a look around, at the skies, then back at GDN.
- GDN, I don’t see any lightning strikes on the sky…
- Really? Wait…
GDN armed his sword right on the time to slash a zombie that jumped from a bush beside him. More zombies started to accumulate around them.
- Ok, that’s a little too much… RUN!
The two bolted forward, followed by the pack of monsters. They started to fall behind, but unfortunately to them, a creeper appeared on the road ahead, walking towards them.
- Uh oh… What do we do?
- Run past him!
The two charged at the creeper, as it prepared to explode with them. But as GDN was about to cross paths with it, he swung his sword at the back of the creeper, knocking it at the horde of monsters behind and sending them all to oblivion in an explosion.
The two looked at each other, then back at the place of the explosion, which was now a hole in the road. The two just brushed themselves and kept going, trying to forget what happened.

Chapter VII
Mags was right. In a few minutes, the sky blacked out and rain started to pour on their heads. There was no hope of shelter, until they happened to pass by an inn right beside the road.
GDN knocked the door, and was promptly answered by the innkeeper.
- Hello, me and my friend here are on a trip, but we happened to get caught under this rain, do you have two rooms for rent?
- Rooms? Sorry, but the inn is closed. It is not safe.
- Not safe how?
- Come in, I still can serve you a coffee and talk. It’s on the house.
The two accepted, and got in as the man closed the door behind them. They sat on a bench by the fireplace as the man appeared from the kitchen with three cups of coffee. He server them and took a third seat.
- My name’s Eoghan. I’m the owner of this inn, but unfortunately, I have a bad case of… Spider infestation…
- Spiders? That’s it?
- They’re not your everyday spiders. They are big, BIG spiders!
- And what about we take care of the big spiders?
- I wouldn’t recommend that… But if you want, go ahead. I’m not responsible for anything… They are nested at the cellar.
GDN stood up, readying his sword and walking towards the cellar door. Mags stood at the fireplace.
- You’re not coming?
- It’s not recommended…
- Geez…
GDN lit up a torch and stepped inside the cellar. He walked around, seeing the walls filled with cobwebs and egg nests. And as he pointed the torch at the end of the room, there it was, the large spider.
It jumped onto GDN as soon as he saw it, but he dodge-slashed its attack. The spider quickly retaliated with another jump, sending GDN to the ground. But it soon let go of him when Mags appeared from behind and struck a sword from behind it. The spider now laid dead beside GDN. Eoghan had also entered the cellar to see what happened.
- There. I guess I was needed after all…
- Thanks, Mags… I almost became spider ration…
Eoghan was impressed at the amount of spider nests in the room. GDN advised him to destroy the eggs before they could hatch, and Eoghan agreed.
Later that evening, Eoghan came from the cellar, covered in cobwebs.
- There, all clean. And I guess you just earned a stay. And three emeralds, as a “thank you” from me!
GDN held the emeralds in his hand. He had never seen one before. He thanked the man back, and proceeded to go to his room and finally rest.

Chapter VIII
It took long, but the rest of the trip was calm. The two friends finally entered Sandstone Village. Its streets were filled with merchants trying to sell all kinds of stuff. GDN and Mags were having a hard time just avoiding them.
- So, where did she probably go?
- Wait, ahead, isn’t that her?
Mags did notice someone that resembled Zim. The two followed the figure, but soon lost it.
- That was her for sure…
GDN looked to his side, to find Zim not too far from them, looking at some amulets.
- There she is!
Zim was trying on some amulets, with the merchant looking eager to sell it. But she was interrupted when GDN turned her around and looked right at her eyes.
- WHERE. IS. THE ORB.
- GDN???
- TALK TO ME! Where did you take it?
- What are you talking about???
Mags tried to get GDN’s attention, as the crowd started to gather around them, curious on what all the commotion was. However, GDN was too busy discussing with Zim.
- Why do you think I stole it? Do you think I’m some kinda thief?
- If it wasn’t you, the who was it?
A shiny sword cut the air between them, stopping the argument. And it wasn’t an usual sword, but a diamond one. Beside them, an armored guard stood, frowning at them.
- You two. Come with me.

Chapter IX
GDN and Zim were taken to the city hall by the guard, whom pointed the sword at them the entire time.
- Look at what you did…
- It wouldn’t have happened if you didn’t steal that…
- Silence, both of you! Our great leader Dayne Oram will decide what punishment you two deserve for disturbing the peace!
The trio entered the throne room, where a tigr wearing an imperial robe was sitting. The guard approached him and knelt.
- My leader…
- Come one, Merc, you’re better than that… I told you, you don’t need to do all this “honor” stuff, it’s tacky!
- I brought two people who were causing a commotion at the Trader’s Square!
Merc pushed the two between him and Dayne. The tigr glanced closely at them.
- So… What was the reason for your discussion?
- She stole something that belongs to me!
- Hell no, I didn’t!
- Tell me, what is the object of the discussion?
- An orb kind of thing… It has a purple color and glows green. I assume it is worth something…
- Wait, where did you find that?
- At a cave. Well, more like a buried temple or the like…
- Hmm… Merc, will you come here for a second?
Dayne whispered something to Merc, which make him look rather frustrated. He stepped down and walked back to GDN and Zim.
- You, follow me. The two.
- Where are we going?
- In a little excursion. Now move!

Chapter X
Merc took the two to a trip deep inside the desert. He looked at the yellow cloud approaching.
- That’s a nasty sandstorm… We better hurry!
- Where are we going?
Merc answered by introducing them to a sandstone temple partially buried in the sands of the desert. He got in, followed by GDN and Zim.
- This temple was found long ago, before the city was built. It holds answers that we are seeking about your… Artifact.
GDN and Zim looked at each other, exchanging a confused look. Merc swiped the sand off a wall, revealing some images to be carved on the wall. He pointed at a peculiar one, showing a sphere being worshipped by a circle of tall and thin men.
- Does the artifact you two were arguing about look anything like this one?
- Well, now that you ask it, yes, it does…
Merc thought a little, under the even more confused look of GDN and Zim, then told them to hurry it back to the village.
They arrived just as the sandstorm started. Everyone was hiding in their homes, leaving the streets empty, except for one person, which turned out to be Mags.
- GDN! Where have you…
- Stand aside, citizen!
- Let him follow, he’s my friend!
Mags joined the other two and began asking questions about what happened, and GDN responded by telling about Dayne and the temple in the desert, under the look of Merc.
Back at the throne room, Merc was whispering to Dayne that time. The tigr seemed quite surprised at whatever he was saying. When Merc finished, Dayne looked back at the three.
- And no one of the three have the artifact right now?
- No. And apparently the girl didn’t steal it.
Dayne resumed thinking, as Zim thanked GDN quietly for trusting her. Dayne looked again at them.
- That’s unfortunate. Apparently, the artifact you had in hands might be of extreme importance not only to us, but to the entire continent. However, I don’t know how.
- Then how can you assume that?
- There’s another village, not far from here. Following the river that crosses the desert, you will reach a jungle, and inside that jungle, Leaf Village is located. That village has experts in history and magic, and the Leader, Josh of Souls, probably will know more about it than I do. You three have a sentence to be fulfilled, but I will suspend it if you accept to go to Leaf Village and talk to Josh.
- Well, I suppose we don’t have a choice…
- Good. Merc will follow you to make sure you finish your mission.
Merc scowled at Dayne, but quickly put a smile on his face when the Leader looked back at him. Zim tried to hold her laugh.
- You can stay in the village until tomorrow, when the storm has ceased. I wish you best of luck!

Chapter XI
The four travelers had been walking for hours by the time they finally could see the lush jungle. It was very closed, but a road was helping them not to stay out of their path. The sun was beginning to set.
- I think we should stop and pitch our tents… It’s getting late.
Everybody agreed with GDN. He opened his bag and took a folded tent from inside it. Zim also opened her bag and took a smaller one. In a few minutes, the two tents were up.
- I suppose the three boys can fit inside your tent… Because this one is mine!
Mags headed in first, followed by Merc, who was mumbling something about the trip. Zim also hid inside her tent, and GDN headed inside at last.
Everyone was sleeping well, but a noise caught GDN’s attention. He woke up and crawled out of the tent. Zim’s tent was also open.
- Zim?
GDN saw a trail going into the jungle. He headed inside, opening his way between leaves and bushes. As he went deeper, he lit a torch to light the way. The trail ended at an opening, and Zim was just across from it.
- Zim!
GDN started to run towards her, but she wouldn’t answer. She kept her back turned to him, facing something else in front of her.
- Zim? What is it?
No answer.
- You’re scaring me…
GDN walked around her, so he could see her face. He was greeted with the horrifying image of her eyes being completely white, and tears coming down from them.
GDN tried to hold his fear. His gut said that, whatever she was staring at, he shouldn’t look at it. But his curiosity was stronger, and he looked. All he could see was a tall figure dash towards him, and all he could feel was his body being sliced in half.
GDN woke up half a second later, still inside the tent. Fortunately, it was just a dream. But he couldn’t stop thinking that it could also have been a vision.

Sorry for the lack of new chapters, but school plus this annoying posting bug (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=73116-Duplicating-Spoiler-Tags) are delaying Act 3. But here is the first Chapter just as teaser:

Well, the world in the story is not based on any particular world from the server, so stuff like the towns might seem out of place. Anyway, be glad you are one of the main characters! Look I have become OutlawJack

Also, I might finally have time to write the rest of Act 3 now, so stay tuned!
