Thanks for this CC. I was a bit worried that there were so many stickies in the help section, and more high quality articles coming through. This looks like a very good and expandable solution without having to clog up the top of every page with new stickies. 2009-01-09 00:19:00

Pro tip: (because it's not enough to make a thread about)

Bored? No in-flight entertainment? Then add music to your hover mode!

I have no idea how many people know about this, but I'll throw it out anyway:

Put a music box next to the entrance.
Restart by going -> Play mode -> Create mode.
Music!

One problem though, you can't turn fly mode off without losing the music, so it's not really advised for frequent playtest sessions unless you already got all your music down. This is because the minute you die/return to fly mode, the music dissapears so this is the only way you can get music during fly mode.

Hope that helped keep someone else sane out there!

Awesome

Then add music to your hover mode!

Yep I use that alot to get a feel for my level w/music sometimes It also works if you:

- Hover,
- Land (press down) near a music object,
- Press rewind.

That's odd, I've never spotted this thread before. It's a superb idea, otherwise the 'Help!' forum would be filled with stickies. Great idea.2009-02-02 10:40:00

I think one of the most crucial steps to creation is getting in the right mindset, or rather getting in the right mood. The type of level you make when you are frustrated, stressed, or angry can differ greatly from the levels you make when you are relaxed, free to think, or somewhat euphoric.

What I usually do to enable this "mode" for level creation: Listen to Music. Seriously, I work much better on levels if I'm listening to something that takes the edge off.
The preference for music greatly changes with each individual, but if possible try to listen to something that isn't overly hectic yet also has a fairly steady and quick BPM to it.

One of my favorite song sets for working with is "Lucid Bass I" and "Lucid Bass 2", by The Flashbulb
As for something longer, I also recommend the album "These Open Fields" by The Flashbulb, or the Odin Sphere Sountrack. Heck, even the LittleBigPlanet soundtrack is pretty good.

Or like TWolf up thar mentioned, you could also put a music box at the start and kill yourself.

Hi ConfusedCartman.

I'm planning to create a thread in a couple of minutes regarding the residual smoke from emitted objects when their lifespan expires. I'm thinking it should fall under Tutorials as a Solution, as it also touches on the Real World Timer issue, but I'm not quite sure this is the best place for it.

If you think it belongs somewhere else, just let me know. The thread Title will be "A Solution For Eliminating Emitted Object Dissolve Smoke".

And thanks for compiling all of the information in this thread, and to those who contributed.
