Double Post Prevention System

Archive: 28 posts

We've got a new addon installed that does exactly what the title says: it prevents double posts by merging them automatically. It will not do this for site staff (the Site Guide (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=5204) is a good example as to why), but it works for everyone else. Due to this, the double posting rule is gone completely.

Feel free to double post here to test it out.

UPDATE: We've had to disable it. Apparently vBulletin runs newreply.php twice when quick replying, so it ends up doubling it up. Double posting should still be avoided until we can find a workaround or some other way to accomplish this.

Did you double post twice? I've noticed it's doubling them up. If so, we'll have to uninstall it.

I know some people who run a few forums, and I'm pretty sure they all use vBulletin. I'll see if they have any fixes for it.2009-01-08 22:25:00

No, it was called Anti Double Post (http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=196680).

hmm ok. was wondering because those others suffer from the same problem. only way to bypass (for now) would be to turn quick reply off.2009-01-09 00:29:00

Too many people use it, honestly. I'll deal with it manually until something better releases, if ever.

People who double post do it to bump their thread, which in most cases is a problem. People who just want to add new information use the edit button or delete their last post and post the new info. The rule seems to only annoy those who like to bump their threads, and since we don't want that in the first place, the rule sticks.

Plus, it's just messy.

maybe if we have a programer or 2 we can find a way to fix the code of it so it does not double up like that. It is either that, we find another alternative, or we just go on as we have been.

Cheers!

I am a computer science major, but I don't know anything about web apps yet. However I am taking internet programming in Hong Kong this semester, so maybe I can help out soon. Only downside of being in Hong Kong is no LBP for 4 months.

I've seen double posting in many Vbulletin forums but I never succeeded in trying to do so. How does this actually happen?

No matter how fast I multi-click a send button or reply whatever it never post 2 times. I always get a message telling you need to wait X seconds before reposting.

Double posting isn't caused by hitting the button too much, it's when you post something then post something else right after without someone else posting in between.2009-01-14 22:01:00

This confused me too, this rule should be re-named.

I rarely double post on purpose.. if I do I'm trying to bump a thread that I've made and no one's replied to and I apologize.

But I sometimes double post by accident.. it's usually caused by lag where I hit the post button and nothing seems to happen so I hit it again and my post gets sent in twice
