inFAMOUS Pinball (1 Player

Archive: 23 posts

Well, I decided to make a Pinball level. Coming up with a theme was the hardest part however, I think i finally got it. It's pretty straight forward when it comes to a pinball game but i think it looks good. I just published it and I'm looking for some feedback. Please check it out and let me know what you think! Thanks a lot!

I'm a pinball fanatic and have seen some great tables in LBP. I shall queue this and let you know what I think. If you noticed that I played it and within a few days didn't come back to this thread, please give me a gentle reminder as I sometimes forget. Be forewarned, I'm a tough critic of pinball tables.2012-07-17 23:54:00

Not bad for a first attempt, but I did find some issues. First, I managed to get the ball stuck on the left side in the big loopy area. Also, the bumpers don't seem to bump the ball as much as they should. They need to be more than just bouncy-tweaked material, but actual bumpers. And, I kept getting the ball to go back into the launch tunnel, and having to relaunch it.

Aesthetically, there's too much empty space for a pinball table. I would consider adding more to the middle of it.

You seem to be heading in the right direction. Keep up the good work; I know your next one will be even better.

When you can, please leave feedback regarding the level in my sig. Thanks.

well, I didn't like the overall appearance. The only way I could tell it was an inFamous Pinball table was because at the very top it says Infamous. the rest of the table was plain. You need lots and lots of lights. The launch ramp for starters. When the ball is launched it should maybe have a series of lights or hologram material that lights up as the ball passes. Several other places around the table would help as well, especially that area to the left where the ball goes around the big circle (got stuck here a couple of times) you could do a cool lighting effect here. Add some things that are known to inFamous. Lightning! you could have lightning strikes appear around the table, underneath the playing area, and instead of the big "X" appearing, have a big lightning bolt appear. Maybe an area where the ball can "dock" and recharge with electrical powers then have a series of lights that you have to hit in order to light up for points. Maybe a car is on the board somewhere and you have to hit it a couple of times with your "lightning" ball to blow it up. All in all though, not too shabby. I got annoyed at the little outcropping on the right hand side that has the single button on it. I thought it may should have been easier to get my ball up to the top left where the row of buttons are and that little tiny circle is really kind of a crap shoot to get in there, the one that awards 2,000 points. I played it 4 or 5 times and enjoyed it. So in conclusion:
1. more lights
2. more things related to inFamous
3. easier targets
4. more, more, more. A pinball table should be just chock full of lights and sounds. The table should be "busy"

Thank you guys for your feedback. I'm going to go in and edit it now, going to add much more to it and change the design a bit so the ball doesnt get stuck anywhere. I'm going to put much more lights in it and fill it with more infamous related items and lighting such as blast shards, bolts, ,a car or 2 and im going to try to muster up a charging system for the ball. I'm also going to place a few reapers around the table and am thinking something like, once you kill the reapers, maybe having a boss with powers come out or something that you have to target.

The reason why i didn't use actual bumpers is because once i would get the ball to hit the bumper. it would glitch and go through it getting stuck behind it.

@Brannayen: I will try out your Laser Chess, I've actually been looking into that for a few days now. I just don't have anyone to play with but as soon as i can find someone, I'm there.

EDIT:
I did some updates to it such as lighting, adding Infamous elements and breaking stuck points.

I've made two pinball tables, so I'll be sure to check out yours! To help stop balls from going through your bumpers, put a material tweaker on them, and set it to unbreakable or whatever its called and on the ball itself too. Also, make the bumbers out of hard material like metal or wood, Neon, etc. This should help stop that.

EDIT: Okay, just played it, and it's cool. It plays really fast, which is good in pinball. It's a bit dark though, and you used wood material as background. I would suggest brightening it up by changing wood material to Neon material brightness turned down , make it yellow to go with the INfamous theme. That would make the red and black pop, and also wouldn't look so dark. Maybe some more sound effects, like lightning and such when you hit targets. I like the bolts down the middle. If you like, check out my Rock your body pinball @ Kaiu_ _kid. Its an all neon material board, with human body organs theme.

Glad you enjoy it, I just raised the brightness up a pinch and changed the material. I kinda was going for that dark evil look and feel to accent Cole's evil side. I'll be sure to add more sound effects and maybe a few more holograms for table lights.

I get mixed reviews on it but i guess what people don't understand is that i just started creating about 2 months ago. I'm still learning all of the tricks and i'm still trying to perfect my logic. I think for less than 2 months of experience of creating, I'm doing just fine. As i get better, my levels will progress in to much more. Its just hard to get people to be honest with you and i'm very grateful for all of the feedback weather its positive or negative.

Thanks for the feedback on my Geometry Wars Galaxies post!

I enjoyed a few things about your pinball table.. The physics are really well done, the ball doesnt seem to heavy or too "floaty", also the baddies to destroy was a nice touch, kinda felt like Cole in an arcade lol. The lightning effects are cool too, adds that nice infamous feeling.

The table feels like its missing a couple things as well, such as a ball-lock for multiball would be great (i know the camera follows the ball, but during multiball have it zoom out over the whole table?) I also couldnt help but feel it was missing just a few more point givers, not sure where you would put them though. The table is also very dark (although im sure that was intentional to set the mood).

I think you did a good job here, and I hope to see some more pinball from you in the future

Awesome table you made here. I have always loved pinball, we had an old table in my basement when I was a kid and me and my brother would play it every chance we got. This is one of the better pinball levels I have played. The visuals were great, and I liked the fact you could change the visual style by choosing good or evil. I seemed to do better on the 'good table for some reason.

The action was fast and hectic, and you really never have time to relax. That is a sign of a good table.

The lighting was very well done, it made everything very atmospheric.

I liked that you put sackbots in various spots on the table, it was fun trying to knock them off the platforms.

I did have one problem and had to restart. The ball got stuck right before it got to the very top left flipper. It was not a big deal though because it was my first play and I knew I was gonna play it more than once anyway.

This is a great table man, and you deserve more plays, I hope you get them.

Hearted. <3

If you get a chance, maybe play my level called Bludhaven. No hurry. Thanks.

I really enjoyed it and found it quite addictive! loved the good/evil option at the beginning, maybe expand on that? Choosing the good option maybe gives you a completely different table layout etc? maybe include in/out movers to give the effect of a ramp being included with multi layers? Excited to see what you make of it!2012-07-22 22:10:00

Good level 2012-07-23 14:45:00

Just got a chance to play it and looks great but have to agree with everyone else, needs alot more lights and sounds and such. I played the good side first and posted my review based on that but the evil side is much easier to see but Id still use some glowing holo on the backboard to get things to stand out a bit more. Was still having the ball go through the bumpers quite a bit so if those were changed the problem is still there. Otherwise looks good and plays good, just some polish and minor probs. Also a quick FYI, answered your question about the camera prob on the help board.2012-07-23 22:16:00

Decent. Not the best pinball level I've played, but decent. It's still pretty fun!
First thing I notice is that there are no prompts for controls. At the intro, there should be something along the lines of "Press X to start". Now, the controls were pretty obvious to figure out, but I think you should still edit the button prompts in the controlinator to show that L1 and R1 control the bumpers. You never know when some clueless impatient kid can't figure out what to do!
I agree that the visuals were kinda lacking in some areas. Still, it looked perfectly fine to be playable. Besides, it looks like you're already working on that problem.
I don't play pinball obsessively, so I think this is all I can really say about the specific gameplay without sounding like an idiot: it was fun. There are a few bugs related to collision that you probably can't fix. I noticed at some times I would shoot the ball and it would completely miss all the flippers. You did remedy this by not taking any lives away if this happens, but it's still an issue. I don't want to spam the flipper buttons just to make sure the ball actually goes somewhere.
I hope to see you improve this level! It seems like you are a responsive creator when it comes to feedback. Good luck and have fun creating!

Played it again, and really like the improvements I see so far. However, I still feel that the bumpers, particularly the round ones, don't have enough of an impact on the ball. In pinball, even if it barely touches them, it sends the ball flying away pretty fast. I'm not sure how to achieve the desired effect, but you might want to research other pinball levels, and see if there's a way to make the bumpers work better. I had the ball get in the middle of the round bumpers, and they were just barely bouncing off of them. That's not real pinball action.2012-07-24 19:41:00

I played this a few days ago. I enjoyed it, although i really think it needs more stuff to hit! Also, the difference between good karma and evil karma wasn't that clear to me.. (I played both). Also, you have three layers.. maybe you could do some more with those. LittleBigPlanet has so much options.. use them to make your level stand out from the rest!

Oh yeah, one time i was stuck with 2 balls for some reason, it only followed one of them, i still lost a life when one of the balls hit the bottom. You might want to fix that.

I didn't think the level was bad, i just think it could be so much better!

I'm working on making it much better. I'm adding more scoring systems (things to hit), Fixing the round bumpers so there actual bumpers, adding lights, bonuses, a help section in the menu, fixing stuck points and preventing the balls from going through the flippers. I've been at it for days now and it will only get better!

I defiantly want to get the word out for fellow LBPCentral creator dpcash. He has helped me with multiple logic solutions for this game and i feel everyone should check out his latest level, The Amazing Spiderman http://lbp.me/v/c0kpwq

"just updated some lag issues and a few stuck spots. I added some new scoring areas aswell. Still trying to work out some minor buggs on the good side but its coming together.

I've been working on a new highly detailed marvel pinball table set as someone had requested but i'm still focusing quite a bit of time in on this.

Hope you all enjoy!

"Sorry for the bump, wanted to let people know."
