Thinking of buying a psp...

Archive: 22 posts

Ok, so i am thinking of buying a psp cause theres a few games on it that i really want to play but i need some advice before i buy. (Im sure there must be at least a few psp owners here).

Does it matter which psp i buy? I know theres the original one, the slim/lite and 3000. I would guess i would want one of the latter two.

What good games are on it? So far im interested in God of War, Metal GearO, Final Fantasy Crisis Core, Monster Hunter F2 and Wipeout Pulse.

Is there anything else i need to know before buying a psp? Anything i should look to get with it? I have heard a screen protector is a good idea.

If anyone can help it would be much appreciated.

Really any of the PSP's are good, the older one is not a bad one, it is bigger but really it doesn't matter on which one you get. I would suggest to get one of the bundled ones, the ones with a game, like the god of war one. You really should look into get Lumines, that game is so much fun, it is puzzle game and you should enjoy it.2009-01-08 15:02:00

My high score is around 59,000 on Lumines

You're part right; he's a Sith Lord...

I have a PSP 2000 and love it. Of course, it's running CFW so I get a lot more use out of it than the typical PSP owner. Either way, it's a great buy when you can pair it with a PS3...

Would i have to look out for specific versions when considering custom firmware? I've heard some of the newer firmware updates dont allow you to use certain CFW. Though i am completely 110% n00b when it comes to psp so i have absolutely no idea about anything. 2009-01-08 15:36:00

If you like the Final Fantasy games you'll love Crisis Core. And if you're one of us "FF7 favourite game" dudes you don't know what you're missing out on.2009-01-08 15:40:00

FF7 isn't my favourite Final Fantasy but it is definitely at least top 4 (i really enjoyed IX, XII and so far VI though i havent finished that one yet).

Having said that i only got into Final Fantasy last year so i have only played through each one a maximum of one time.

Im starting to derail my own thread now im sorry for that thread starter!

No problem i dont mind but lets get back to the topic ok?

You got it!

So how is the battery life on the PSP?

Battery life varies depending on what you're doing (watching video, playing games, listening to music) but you should be able to get 3-5 hours out of a single charge regardless of what type of media you're enjoying.2009-01-08 16:35:00

Good to use internet whilst supposed to be sleeping.

Indeed. My wife always makes me get to be well before I'm done with my nightly surfing.

That would probably be useful for the many times something random has come in my head and i have thought "i should google or wiki that!" but been unable to go on the computer to check.2009-01-08 17:01:00

I do have a PSP and a DS... to be honest though, I prefer the DS. I know that's not what the original thread starter was asking, but my PSP gathers a lot of dust, mainly because of it's poor battery life, while my DS gets used pretty much every day. The variety of games I find more personally appealling as well.

But that's me, and I'm a little bit off topic. I just find recharging every night and it's overall small collection of decent games to be upsetting.

The PSP could be better, but there just are not enough good games.

I see what your saying there but the games i have seen on the PSP, though few, look more appealing to me. Besides i dont really travel too much so charging probably wouldnt be too much of an issue for me if i was playing at home.

I have heard that you can upgrade your batteries as well, though im not sure if it is worth it or not.

I sold mine recently due to getting highly bored with it. Even with having it fully hacked.
Anyway, the best PSP to go for at the moment would be the 2000. The 3000 will cost more, and all you get extra that matters is a microphone internally (which i personally never needed once) and a brighter screen. However, most websites (including IGN) prefer the 2000. Also - the 2000 is hackable if you look down that path.

You should write a blog on how to hack a PSP, but yeah I am the same way, I had a PSP, but I sold mine also, just not worth it too me. I also do have to say the DS is a cool system also. I would like to see a PSP in the future have the functions of a itouch and also the use of what the PSP can do.
It really depends on you, I got one for work but now I moved up I can't sit and play a PSP all day, LOL.

Well, i would love to do the blog but it can take ages to explain alot of things to people, and in the end of the day you have to buy a new battery/mem stick. I did. If someone wants me to explain it to them i can though. Just don't ask me where i got the games. I'll link you to the emulators though

Crisis Core is brilliant.
Wipeout isn't great in my opinion.
Lego batman is brilliant ^_^ (I was really biased against it before I played it but it's really addictive )

Well the old psp's are more... "flexible" if you know what I mean.. (if you don't, don't bother asking) but their both really the same.
Nothing new in the 3000 really, tis your choice.
